>uTorrent is by far the most used BitTorrent client around.

>The application generates income by bundling software “offers” during the install process and through in-app banner advertising.

>The banner advertisements are relatively new. Parent company BitTorrent Inc. decided to include these in 2012 in order to increase its revenues, causing uproar among some of its users.

>This week the company has reintroduced an ad-free version of its uTorrent client. In addition to the free ad-supported version there’s now a paid client as well, for which users are charged $4.95 per year.

>Through a paid subscription users can support the developers directly without constantly being subjected to advertising.

>“We’ve been busy experimenting with new ways to improve uTorrent for our users while financially supporting the amazing team that works every day to make uTorrent free for millions of people around the world,” BitTorrent’s Jordy Berson notes.

>The $4.95 version doesn’t come with any of the advanced features that are available in the 19.95 Pro version, but is considerably cheaper.

>“This gives users the option of avoiding any and all ads in the client. It’s exciting to us because it gives users the ability to avoid advertising at 25% of the cost that it used to be – about 5 dollars a year instead of 20 dollars,” Berson says.

>The price setting is definitely reasonable for an application that millions of people use on a daily basis. However, not all BitTorrent users are eager to pay for the products they consume.

>But instead of pirating a copy of uTorrent, these users can also disable the advertisements in the free version of the client, for now at least. The uTorrent team hasn’t said whether this will change in the future.

>The release of the paid tier is part of uTorrent’s efforts to move away from invasive advertisements and bundled software, which led to bad PR in the past.

Why do people force themselves on using μTorrent when they know it's filled with PUPs and Adware, hell, even normies now complain about it but still proceed to use it, like, what the fuck is so special about it that they force themselves on it?

you're not wrong, i regret ever teaching anyone how to torrent.

bane of every network i fucking use, when i lived at home fucking parents torrent 24/7 cause they didnt understand the concept of bandwidth, and now theres fuckwits torrenting all the time in dorms and in my apartment block.

the sooner these dipshits get arrested (sans my parents) the sooner i can go back to torrenting on a god damn schedule not interrupting anyone elses god damn internet usage.
>>
>>52943934
That's what I'm saying.

Let them use uTorrent until they get so many viruses and crapware that they stop torrenting.
Don't ever help them.

Piracy should be limited to tech savvy people.
All the normies jumping on board draws in way too much attention.

Because it mentions it as a vulnerability in Bittorrent and µTorrent but doesn't list any other torrent clients. So I can only assume it's something that is unique to them after they became the same codebase.

Probably the ones you'll see after the update, when you'll no longer be able to remove them in config. This change wouldn't make sense otherwise.

>>
>>52943693
Transmission is the best. It can run as a daemon. It has the best and most feature complete API. It has the best documentation.

It has the best remote support (Transmission Remote GUI) without having to use a shitty webui.

Transmission is so much better than rTorrent. People who like rTorrent are retarded children who buy "seedboxes" with software pre-installed for them.
>>
I'm waiting for the official windows port of transmission. Then it will be the official meme of /g/
>>
>>52949267
Transmission-qt is fine. But personally I use the Transmission Remote GUI to control it because it's ugly as shit. I just keep transmission-qt in the system tray and the remote gui on my task bar.

Works well since I have remote instances of transmission to control also. All my torrent clients are controlled through one interface.
>>
>>52949267
That day will be great because all of the qStalledmeme users will be upset when Transmission becomes the most popular torrent client on /g/ because of that Windows port.

Any week now, 2.90 will be out and Transmission will become the /g/ mainstay. Can't wait.
>>
>>52949284
If we could get Transmission Daemon packed in an installer to make it run as a Windows service, that would make it even better than the upcoming Transmission port.
>>
