For a few examples, just to show I'm not shitposting, what about that young kid who developed the idea for a nuclear reactor that utilizes weaponized uranium for reactor fuel? He was on Ted multiple times over the span of 4 years, yet I hear nothing of his work. What about nano-material chemical detection kits that are 10x more sensitive and also (obviously) cheaper to use than sniffer dogs? That tech was being hailed like 5 years ago, and seemed very finalized and practical, yet nothing has come of it..

We have helicopters and airplanes, and even airplanes that support VTOL. In case you weren't aware, mind of these are cheap... At least not for people who are going to complain if the price of gasoline goes above 3 bucks a gallon. It's possible, very easy in fact, but not practical.

On earth we are protected from the insane amounts of radiation present in space. One trip to mars will more than double your chances of getting cancer. So many people leave this out when talking about space travel. Serious reform will need to take place before we can go anywhere for an extended amount of time. This doesn't even mention the effects of having less gravitational pull (gravity that is not similar to Earth's) on the human body. Loss of mass, blood pressure, shape etc etc.
