How do you apply your thermal paste /g/?
>>
I'm a line guy. Fight me.
>>
>>52924715
Twice daily, just as the doctor recommends.
>>
I eat it and piss it onto the board 6 hours later. My liver filters out the impurities.
>>
>>52924773
Does cum make a good thermal paste?
>>
>>52924887

It'll probably do it's job... just like mayonnaise:

>>
>>52924715
Make a very thin doughnut in the middle and press the cooler down hard.
>>
>>52924715
i use the apple service manual approved amount of thermal paste
>>
First I take a lot of laxatives
>>
*unzips dick*
>>
I squirt the paste all out onto a dinner plate and then rub the CPU (upside down of course) against it to get it on the whole surface area

am I fine?
will it just burst into flames one day?

Don't fall for the grain of rice meme.

More paste = more cool.

Since early 2000 something. No runoff. no trouble.

Holy shit, even those can be in the margin of error

MSI pays these people...
>>

right before the fap
>>
>>52924715
I thought thermal paste was a meme. None of my dell's ever came with it, so when I built my first computer I later found out it was a thing. They should really ship your Intel with some of it.
>>
>>52925732
That benchmark proves one thing though: the difference between the ways you can apply are minimal, simply putting minimal amount of thermal paste in there is optimal no matter how you apply it.
>>
a small swastika in the middle

>>52925658
sounds like bullshit.
>>
>>52925787
I got thermal paste with my Intel processor
>>
I run the paste through my standing mixer to add volume first, then gently apply with a rubber spatula while turning the motherboard.
>>
>>52925664
This better be a hand model and not a professional
>>
Don't need to, processor already had thermal paste on it.
>>
>>52927108
It's official MSI and also the reason I don't buy from them.
>>
When I built my current PC, I used a long, thin line. This was with Arctic Silver 5 on an i7 4790k and a Corsair h100i GTX.
>>
>>52924715

Along the edges. After pressing down the heatsink on it, give the heatsink a 360 spin.
>>
Butter knife with a light sprinkle of parsley
>>
>>52924715
I applied a about the same as OP pic 8 years ago when I bought my pc.
>>
As fast as possible, PCs like to burn without it.
>>
>>52924715
I shove it up my urethra and then make big cums into the processor.
>>
>>52927108
>>52927193
it's old and fake
>>
>>52927829
This isn't your mother, anon.
>>
>>52924715
first i test out the cpu with no thermal paste to make sure everything works. then i remove it and lap it until it has a mirror finish. i do the same with the heat sink. then i squeeze an entire tube of arctic silver on it and go outside and not complete the project.

I usually look up a picture of the de-lidded processor, then make a very small line of thermal paste right on top of where the die would be below the heat spreader. Has been working out pretty well.
>>
>>52925603
If you notice temps go high into danger zone one day thags when you want to replace it.
>>
I use a small brush like what you would find in a bottle of nail polish to spread the paste around evenly on the HS.

What does /g/ use to clean it of ?
Can you use normal high concentrated alkohol to clean it of ? Would be cheaper to buy than cleaning gasoline.

>>52929050
actually a good solution. although I don't know of any processors that aren't centered.

It was applied by a machine. You don't get to see it if you buy prebuilt.

This is how you do it, right?
>>
Two second spray of wd40 onto the processor then tighten the heat sink onto the board with a power drill
>>
>>52932852
Would this actually break the CPU though?

I assume if thermal paste doesn't conduct electricity, it should still be usable, right?
>>
>>52932938
yes, it should still work
>>
>>52932938
Would assume so since most thermal pastes are non-conductive, the main gripe would he cleaning it out of shit like LGA sockets.
>>
Line down the middle.

Fuckin werx
>>
>>52932938
That water content in that paste would likely prove troublesome...
>>
>>52932970
>>52932959
>>52933008
Biggest problem would be removing the cpu after a month of use.
>>
>>52933392
Would probably take out half the pins, kinda want to try it now gonna scrounge around for some old hardware.

from my experience changing laptop CPUs.
some have 2 "blocks", one like that pic, and another more square and smaller, but they were all centered.
i just use thermal pads, never had trouble.

I had to leave my CPU in my motherboard over night without a heatsink on it. Should I clean it to make sure the surface is perfectly clean? What should I use?
>>
The whole tube
>>
>>52924715
Depends on the shape of the chip
>square chip = dot
>rectangular chip = line
>>
>>52934598
Yeah...my overclocked processor with stock cooler runs fine and barely gets warm. Nice meme
>>
>>52934695
Pure isopropyl if you want it to be perfect.
>>
>>52930300
Absolute minimum alcohol level for cleaning CPUs is 99%, any lower will leave a layer of junk and lower thermal conductivity.
>>
>>52937390

Nah, you need to sand it now. Without a protective cover, all the bugs have been leaving their poops on the surface of it. Banana flies are the worst offenders.
