Anybody here has pic related?
What were you upgrading from?
Are you satisfied with it?

I'm thinking about upgrading from an E8400, but I'm not so sure now with how underwhelming Skylake is
>>
>>52918818
how is it underwhelming exactly?
>>
>>52918818
Its only underwhelming performance wise coming from broadwell or haswell but its benefitial feature wise (usb 3.1, ddr4, m.2) from any other chipset other than x99
>>
>>52918818
I'm thinking about upgrading from a 4670k.

upgraded from i3 and a gtx 460m to an i7 and a gtx 970 and FUCK YES im satisfied!
>>
just upgrade to a 6 core cpu instead from a 4 core
>>
I got one moving from an i5-2500. Its stable at 4.6 and very cool even with a cheap $30 fan on it, overkill even for using 3dsmax but I got it very cheap so I'm more than happy with it.
>>
>>52918936
Absolute waste. Virtually 0 performance gain.

It's only a matter of time before people find something new wrong with it. The PCI lane problem, the math problem and also bending with certain CPU coolers, all for minor gains over Haswell.
You get some extra features, but nothing one objectively needs to have an excellent system.
>>
Upgraded from a 955 BE and it feels great.

4.0 out of the box is pretty nice.
DDR4 improvements are fine, most users won't notice them.
3.1 isnt very useful as 90% of my devices don't support it yet but it'll be nice a few years down the line.

There's no fucking reason to upgrade unless youre fucking Sandy Bridge or older, and even then the high end ones still have legs. I have no idea why people buy processors like they're cell phones.
>>
only thing i hate about skylake is that there are no stock "voltage." its stock "voltage range."

its range ranges from 1.2v's to 1.4v's. its insane.

haswell was similar but wasn't that big of a range. haswell was 1.1v's - 1.2v's.

having such a large range allows intel to pump out 6700k's that can't go above stock, nor "turbo boost" on all four cores instead of the default one core.

i know haswell-e is an option but man its to much of a fucking house fire. living in the south west no way i could have a 5820k running at 4ghz during july. the shear amount of heat that it would pump into my room with 110 degree weather beating down on my house would keep my room a comfy 86 degrees with the ac struggling to keep the house at 78.
>>
>>52918795
Are those things still bending from third party coolers?
>>
>>52919865
no and it was only a few select coolers, mostly from scythe.

noctua, cooler master, corsair, and phantek coolers didn't have this problem because their attachment mechanism didn't over tighten.

custom loop's can face this issue and EK issued a warning that tightening down to hard can cause them to bend.
>>
>>52919937
this

scythe did update their brackets and issued free new brackets for those with coolers that came with the old ones.

You overpaid for the processor, assuming you bought it for gayman use. You should've just bought a 6600K and gotten a 980 with the spare.
>>
>>52920254
>i5 is enough for games
When will this meme end?
>>
>>52920305
It is enough for games you shill, especially if people are playing in 1440p or lower.
>>
>>52920357
Doesn't mean there is no benefit to an i7.
>>
>>52920357
>everyone uses their computer for gayms
>>
>>52920401
I didn't say there was no benefit. I'm not sure exactly how much of a benefit it is, but there likely is one.
>>52920305
implied that i5 was not enough; however, which I disagree with.

Still rocking this "rig" I built in 2009 with 2008 parts.

I went for the 5820k instead, the 6700 seems pretty stupid given the virtually same price.

I upgraded from a pentium 4.....seems to be a bit quicker

Yeah, that shit's fine for anything that isn't *new* and CPU intensive. I'd hold onto that for a while longer.

I was upgrading from an i3 - 2nd Gen (I didn't really care for its real name. It was a dual core clocked at 2 ghz. It sucked ass) And I upgraded to the i5-6600k, and the Powercolor R9 390. (It has 3 fans you Nvidia shills idle at 40°, load at ~70°) So far, I love my purchase and I'm never looking at the past gens. I am very happy and content with my 4 cores 4 threads.

What retard buys a 6700k instead of a 5820k? 5820k is literally 25 dollars cheaper, moar corez, twice the L3 cache, no shitty integrated graphics, and more pci-e lanes.
>>
>>52924192
More expensive motherboard and older, less capable chipset
>>
i5 2500k here.
Is Skylake worth it, or should I go with a 4790k instead?
>>
>>52924263
What do you need a new CPU for?
>>
>>52924317
>need
I don't understand...
>>
>>52924192
When I add up the 40€ extra for a 5820k, 90€ for a more expensive X99 mobo and 50€ for a better cooler it doesn't seem so clear cut.
>>
>>52924228
Motherboard cost is made up for with the difference in cost of the CPUs. In the worst case the cost of X99 motherboards and quad channel ram will be perhaps $20-50 more, which isn't really much when you're talking about a $2000 system build.

I'm not really aware of any particular advances between X99 and Z170; the majority of X99 motherboards have been updated for USB3.1 since launch and X99 has support for the important standards like M.2/NVME.

>>52924420
At least where I live the 5820k is the cheaper processor. 399 for 6700k vs 385 for the 5820k
>>
>>52924263
You should stick with the 2500k. Wait for Zen, or the Intel counterpart.
>>
>>52924192
I bought mine when they first launched, I ended up paying $300 with $50 off from a gift card. The 5820k was still $385 at that time, so the choice was clear.

>>52919188
Phenom x3 8450 reporting in.
>>
>>52924604
>>52924518
Serious question here - should I go for a 6700k or wait until June and get a Broadwell-E 6800k for ~170€ more.
>>
>>52924604
here

>>52924637
I'd probably wait the 5 months, save up some more cash, and get Broadwell-E. If it sucks nuts, you can always get Skylake at non-retard prices.
>>
I have a 4460, in what games would i see a big different in fps if i had a 6700k instead? Stuff like Arma3?
