30 or so computers in the lab
Core2Duo at about 2GHz
2GB DDR2
Fuck if I know what hard drive it has, or even if they have any local storage, but it doesn't matter because of the next point
All the storage (including the OS) is network based and goes off to two rackmount servers sitting on a table which I'm pretty sure use port-aggregated 10Gb NICs (20Gb total per blade since I saw two cables) on a switch with 4 SFP ports and all the other machines connected through gigabit copper
They run Debian with no non-free software, but then again our majors use basically nothing but FOSS tools and Linux

Argentina, so Core2Duo-tier niggery like this is expected from a public institution

No

I even asked if I could bring from home my own IBM keyboard (model M) because nearly 100% of our school's keyboards are cheapo stuff with the spacebar broken

I know that's just 4Chan, but I'm just asking what's the IT highschools and colleges conditions around the world, no more shit.

My school has pretty good computers - Macs for Art and Music, Zoostorm Pentium PCs in library, a few IT rooms and other rooms which need technology (pic related), these 'Stone' computers and shitty Athlon X2 toasters struggling with Windows 7.

Even in Music and Art I still use a proper computer. Mixcraft for the win.

Italian guy here.
I study ICT in a technical school.
About 20 win7-winXP dual-boot based pc in lots of classrooms (3 GHz CPU, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, and dedicated GPU in some computers).
Lots of student use a tablet instead pf books (iPads the magiority), and we have Apple TV to interface them to our Interactive Boards we often use as blackboards.
In mechanical laboratory there is a 3D printer and a NAO robot

I've been in Poland as a student when I was 11 for a couple of months. Since in the school I went (don't actually remember the exact name, but it was very big and it even had a swimming pool inside) there were two rooms filled with Apple computers, I will ask you anyway: are you from Wrocław?

Dopo I superiori so no indeciso se proseguire con Informatica, Ingegneria Informatica, approfondire Elettrelettronica, Elettrotecnica e Fisica oppure tentare la sorte e mettermi in proprio.

we used to have windows 2000 until fucking 2011. Then we got Win7.
Every workstation has:
either
> core 2 duo ca. 2Ghz
> 2 Gb RAM
> 80 Gig hdd

or
> Intel quad core (idk the model) 2.8 GHz
> 4 GB RAM
> 64 GB SSD

Home folders are on the server.

Some optiflex from dell with 4gb ram + 1tb storage + I5.
Booting from pxe, in debian jessie with cinnamon, (MATE optionnal). Last year we had gnome 3.
Some pcs have dual boot with windows 7.
Screens are 22" dell using the igpu.

We also have some all in one optiflex 23" with pretty much the same config as the towers.

In a few rooms we have 500/500 mb/s and in others 1gb/s. all the switches are netgear.
The wifi routers are from aruba, don't know the model but 54mb/s sym is bretty gud.

if the network is down we have an excellent 4G/4G+ cover in the city so no problems.

Each student has a disk quota, first year 100mb, second year more and so on.
A few downsides:
-no ssh for students
-can't connect to Oracle DB from outside (but we can on postgre/mysql)
-no steam/battlenet/teamspeak (for muh gaems)
-website is really bad.
-since 2 years ago can't use personal mail client(dunno why)
-no torrent (maybe for the better imo)

Also i'm french, uni is U-pem.

top hardware at schools... literally why?

what do you even need computers for at schools? unless you're going to have a so called "hacker space" with 3d printing/video audio editing.

Other than those programming can be done on a 386. So what is the point?
