Even in the bedroom I just use my phone. The only way I could see it being more convenient is reading books and manga at work.

Well yeah, the thing is I have a Note 2 and a nook and some archos 10" tablet and the thing I use the most is still my phone. Even at home.
The mediapad x2 is 7" (yes it's a phone) so it's too big for most people but I think it's the perfect size for me and would allow me to get rid of my other devices.
Though wile the Note fits in my pocket the mediapad definitely won't.
I'm just looking for the perfect sized device for me. The problem of having too many devices is that all your stuff is scattered everywhere and even if you use cloud services or pick up stuff from your NAS it's a pain.
Plus since I use google agenda and watch chinese cartoons all the time on my phone a bigger screen would be nice.

Well if higher end ultrabook's specs with high-res screen and okayish batterylife aren't enough, hate away. As a dev ops guy, I like the portability-specs-price compromise. Only thing better would be thinkpad yoga, but they're expensive and iirc dont have as high res screens as surface pro 3/4. They would have more ram, rj45 port and better keyboard, though. Weight, battery life, and cost really.
I ended up swapping out my laptop at uni because a tablet with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse made note taking easier- and the fact that they weren't connected like to laptop made it easier to maneuver on smaller desks. I could also use it more easily with a paper notepad if I was reading a textbook.
Now I mostly use it in bed or on the couch because I wear glasses, and if it's late night I'd rather not wear them and watch a tv, I'd rather take then off and watch on the tablet.
I also use its mini hdmi out as a quick party tool. Takes less space than a laptop to output to a friend's TV for movie watching
