At the same price, G4 is better than 5X ?
Prices are fucked here, I can get G4 for 400 and I can get one for 650, both look the same(32GB, 3GB RAM) what the fuck is the deal

>>
>>52887695
G4 is getting 6.0

T-mobile has it listed as a device that is currently rolling updates to 6.0 out right now.

My G4 hasn't received it yet, BUT ...I'm sure it will any day.

>>52887691
The rest of the hardware in the phone makes a difference.

That being said, your basic user experience index will probably not differ, but the 5x has far fewer features.

Just look both phones up on gsmarena and make the decision for yourself.

>>52887753
No.
>>
>>52887695
It's just getting 6.0, while the 5X is already on 6.0.1 with the new emoji.

5X will definitely get Android N and O. G4 might not get either, depending on the whims of LG.

>>52887691
5X is encrypted by default which has a performance cost in exchange for security. I have only experienced intermittent and rare hiccups that disappear on a reboot, 95% of the time it is really fast.

G4 has the same SoC and is pushing pixels on a 1440p screen. It does however have an extra GB of RAM, which you will need because of LG's bloat.

If you absolutely need an SD card slot and removable battery, get the G4 but make sure you get the one with the unlockable bootloader. If developer support, vanilla Android, and fast reliable updates are important to you get the 5X.
>>
>>52887802
>If developer support, vanilla Android, and fast reliable updates are important to you get the 5X.
Uh, but you could just get CM on G4.

So the camera on the V10 does indeed take really nice shots, far and away better than my old Droid Turbo. I'd upload an image, but imgur is being dumb

I'm wondering about the battery though. It seems okay, but I think I can make it last longer, pic related.

While I miss the smaller form factor of my Turbo, I rather like the rubber back of the V10, though I sort of 'meh' on the feel of the metal sides.

I think the second screen would be perfect if I could get media controls while the main screen is off, which I either can't do, or haven't figures out yet. I do like that it can give you more detailed notifications while remaining unobtrusive.

All in all, performance has been nice and smooth and at the end of the day, I'm loving this phone.

>>52888697
The thing that had me initially concerned was the seemingly fast dropoff. Like I would go from 100% to 95% in a matter of minutes it seemed. Also the fast charging is WAY faster than the Turbo, but that's at least to be expected with the technology improvements.

Another thing I'm glad about is the 64GB internal with the option for a fatass SD card, which begs a question for Marshmallow users; is the ability to 'fuse' internal and external a good idea? I know it won't even let you if the SD card isn't fast enough.

It's going to be a few days before it 'stabalizes'. I wouldn't worry.

Wait until MWC to see what phones are announced. Either one will be worth getting, or you'll get a good discount on last year's phones.

What kind of price drops can I expect to see for the G4 after the G5 is announced. I need a new phone, and I'm leaning towards the G3, but if I can cash in on some sweet G4 liquidation I may wait.
>>
>>52890617
Guess we'll see when it is announced sometime shortly after MWC. They did stop the focus on speakers with the A9, preferring to make the headphone DAC higher quality. Personally I don't use the speakers that often, so would prefer better headphone sound to speakers. They also got rid of the HTC logo with the black bar. Nexus 5 is way better. Official updates to marshmallow and has an LTE radio. Nexus 4 is pretty dated at this point. The 5 can be had for like $180.

The Moto G 3rd gen is also pretty decent. Either would be better than the Nexus 4 in 2016.

Problems with burn in, but deeper blacks that consume no power. Thus you can have a black screen with only a free white pixels and it will consume almost no power.

HTC also switched to AMOLED for the A9, so it's possible that the M10/Perfume will also have one. The OPX also has one and people seem to like it. I didn't mind the screen on my Lumia 925, it would get really bright in sunlight which was nice.

Hello, I want to encrypt all important files on my phone. I searched for encrypting apps on play store and found apps called S.S.E and Crypt4all lite. I want to know if I encrypt my files using one app, can I decrypt using another software on my computer or phone in future?
I encrypted a test file using Crypt4all and tried to decrypt using S.S.E, but I couldn't do that. Crypt4all uses .aes and SSE uses .enc, maybe that's why it failed. I searched for best encryption methods and found that AES 256 is best, do you recommend other methods?
>>
>>52899753
AES256 is recommended by NIST and is the most popular; you should use it, yeah.

AES256 encrypts data only in 16-byte blocks. To encrypt larger files, some type of chaining method is used. There are many chaining method and you have to know which one is used to decrypt. You also need to know the actual 256-bit key used to encrypt - the one you supplied might have been hashed and salted.

I like it a lot. Kind of getting bored though, I'm a serial phone swapper and although the 5X meets my needs very well I feel like getting something new.

Battery life is pretty great, but I might be an outlier. I typically get around 6 hours SoT over a 24 hour period on a charge. Yesterday I went from 100-50% with slightly over 3 hours SoT, and then went to sleep. I woke up with 48% 8 hours later, only losing 2% overnight.

>>52900770
A 5X can probably do more than your 6S simply because it is an Android phone that isn't locked down at all. You could also probably make a bit of scratch from the transaction, since iPhones (even used) are heavily overpriced.

>>52900181
It's basically your only option if you want a flagship tier phone under 5". It does overheat when shooting 4K video (like many if not most phones) but lasts much longer than the Z3C did. The fingerprint scanner is a handy addition but some anons have said it is underperforming, and the US version doesn't even include it. All in all looks like a pretty excellent phone, and like I said it's your only real option <5".
>>
>>52900501
Keep in mind that Galaxy S3 is pretty much ancient phone right now, and iPhone 5 is quite old, too. Right now Galaxy S6 is godlike compared to iPhone 6S.

They're both about the same age.

The thing is, with the 5 you have a much better experience without tweaking anything, whereas the s3 is barely usable on the stock Rom updated to 4.4.

I'm worried that with my next purchase I'll suffer from the same issues e.g. the 6s will have better support than the s6 4 years from now and better resale value.

Hell I see the 5 going for 150-200 while the s3 can be had for around 60.
>>
>>52903138
>Worried about resale value
>on a phone

you should probably just not spend more than a couple hundred on a phone. Ever.
>>
>>52903346

Not worried as I said, I went with the s3 4 years ago but it is something worth considering when you're buying a 600$+ dollar phone.
>>
>>52902998
Any good deal you get from your carrier will be repayed many times over with the cost of your plan. Basically you're fucking over your parents in order to save yourself a few bucks.

Getting a phone from a carrier is like buying a car from the gas station.

Also, with the Droid Turbo 2 you will be (essentially) stuck with Verizon since it doesn't include Band 12/17 for T-Mobile/AT&T, plus the contract and unlocking fees.

>>52902356
Samsung and Apple are both terrible normalfag-tier phones. Good only for tech illiterates and women.

>>52903138
iPhones and Macs have ridiculous resale value because people are willing to pay top dollar for several years old tech because it has an Apple logo on it. I see 2012 model rMBPs on sale for almost full price. Doesn't mean that it is worth it, just that it still sells for ridiculous amounts.

But hey, once Apple makes your 6S lag to hell with iOS 12, you can probably still sell it and make a quarter of your money back. I still don't think it's worth it for the amount of time you'll be stuck in Apple's walled garden and having to use shit-tier iTunes.
>>
>>52903385

Well I mostly use my phone for text and phonecalls and the 5 seems to be more than capable of that, the camera isn't too bad either (the s3's was also pretty much the same). And what do you mean by lag? I'm not experiencing any type of lag whatsoever, though things load slower than on my girl's 6s.

Apple essentially plans obsolescence with older iPhones. If you had a 4S updated to iOS9, you would experience tons of lag. So while Apple updates phones for a long time, these updates are a poisoned chalice designed to make you have to buy a new phone.

Zenfone is more powerful, but filled with bloat and has build quality issues (plug it in and sometimes it never powers on again) which makes flashing CM dangerous (since it voids the warranty) which you need to do to get rid of the copious amounts of bloatware Asus includes. I'd go Honor 5X if those are your only options, I had the Zenfone 2 and hated it.

>>52904484
X and G will probably get updates. I'd go for the G unless you get a great deal on the X, since the X is probably going to stop recieving updates soon since Motorola is shit now that they are owned by Motorola.

>>52903732
The S2 recently got an unofficial update to 6.0.1, and Marshmallow performs better than previous versions compared to iOS which gets more bloated with every release.

Would it though? I mean, we're on some sort of shared family plan I know and I hardly use any of the data allotted on it. It's just how the subsidy works. They recoup the cost of the phone subsidy and then some from the money you pay for the plan.

However, it can make sense. When I signed up with my carrier, they gave me a $20/month discount since I brought my own phone. Over a two year period (the typical contract length) that saves me $480, which essentially covers the cost of my phone I bought outright. However, they changed their plans after I signed up, so now I'd only save $10/month or $240. Since they offer you $500 off a phone, it actually makes more sense to get a phone on contract now thanks to the carrier's greed and increasing the rates. However, I'd sacrifice flexibility like the ability to switch carriers if another one started actually competing on price and offered a good deal. I'm considering signing a contract for my next phone since it makes sense financially, and the perks offered by this carrier (free Spotify Premium for two years, free NHL Gamecenter) make it unlikely I'll switch, despite having worse coverage outside of cities.

Have you read my previous post? I've installed an official CM12 rom for the S3 and it's nowhere near stable with random bugs out the ass while performing simple tasks, sure it's fast but I sure as hell wouldn't pick it over the iPhone 5 (which is also faster in browsing).

The S2, while I have no experience with it probably suffers from the same issues and you have to resort to messing around flashing all kinds of mods to get it to run smooth.

Hi /g/, i need a new phone. I've got a €350 budget. I don't have many preferences but i'd like to root it. Bands aren't a problem where i live and i barely use mobile data anyway.
What are my best options?
>>
>>52907300
> = greater than
S6 is the best hardware, 5X is the worst of that bunch. But a 5X will perform better than an S6 because of all of Samsung's bloat.

>>52907376
I'd consider the OnePlus X or the Xiaomi Mi4c. The Nexus 5X is also an option, but the 32GB version is still 400 eurobux (a reduced price until the 12th).
>>
>>52907353
Familia, have you considered the 5X? I mean if storage is needed then the Idol 3 has advantage, but it's a Snapdragon 615 vs 808

5X is €330 here but maybe 32GB won't be enough in the long run? (i think i would be fine with it though)
And is 2GB ram really enough?

The only thing i dislike about Oneplus X is that it has no backlight keys and shit warranty support.
What do you think?

Ah nevermind, €330 for the 16GB and €369 for the 32GB. That's almost €400

OPX is made of metal and glass and I think it is sexy but maybe a little slippery. If bands aren't an issue I would consider it.

5X is great for me, the 2GB of RAM isn't really an issue. imho it multitasks better than videos i've seen of the S6+/Note 5 w/4GB of RAM. Sometimes things do have to reload, but generally things stay in memory and I've never had issues of running out of memory.

>>52907470
Pretty decent handset, with some neat fingerprint scanner tricks. However it has a 6xx series processor so it is definitely midrange.

>>52907563
doubt it. CM might have a bug with the display, but it wouldn't physically damage the hardware. it was probably dropped and the connector malfunctioned or it suffered water damage. IMHO the minuscule risk that CM might miraculously damage your hardware is not worth running touchwiz.

Hello /g/ I need immediate help with this decision:

With a plan, prices for out of pocket:
LG G3 $0

Just get a Nexus 4. You don't need a modern phone because Wind doesn't even offer LTE.

But seriously, go 5X if you want 5.2" and fast updates. 6P if you want 5.7". OPX if you want an SD card slot. OP2 I can't think of a reason to get... Maybe you like 5.5" phones and dealing with terrible customer service if the phone is defective?

5X is a really good choice, but if money is your main concern go with the OPX. It's not like the missing LTE bands will matter since you're using 3G only. There is the chance the phone might be defective and if so you're much better off dealing with Google than OnePlus.

No, that doesn't matter at all. Only thing that matters is that your phone is popular enough to receive community support.

I'm up for upgrade and I was thinking of trading in the Iphone 5 s I have for an LGV10, Mostly I'm looking for a phone that has an SD slot and removable battery as my old Galaxy had it, and the iphone made me long for it again.

Is the LG good or are there better phones to be looking at?

oh and what country are you in? that matters a lot, not all phones are going to be available to you.

LG are literally the only company that still buys the SD card slot meme and the removable battery meme.

As long as the battery is serviceable (you remove screws to replace the battery), you're good.

SD cards are also shit, and slow:

But if you really want that stuff badly, the LG phones are the only good ones around that do it.

>LG G3
>HTC One
those are listed for 2.5/3x the price of moto g3 in my country. i don't trust the refurbished sellers here kek.

>Redmi Note 2

Are there any better phones on the market? Just looking at the features the V10 looks like ti have a better camera, better display, better music quality, but a worse processor than the HTC M9 or the Iphone 6s.

What's a good notepad app for android?

Can you wait a few weeks? I have a V10 and love it, but the G5 and S7 are coming out very soon. I'd wait to see what those phones offer.
Plus, if they're shit, you might get the V10 on sale since it'll technically be an older model.

I was planning on waiting for the G5 to come out before deciding which one to pick. Thanks for the advice though

Not really that I'm aware of.
The best overall phones on the market right now are
>Nexus 6P
>Oneplus Two
>LG V10
>Galaxy Note 5

The processor is good. Honestly, anything past the 801 is good. The 801, while not the most powerful, is arguably the best for performance + battery life. The rest have had overheating issues, but firmware updates have fixed a lot of those issues. You're not going to notice much of a difference unless you're running a benchmarks test though.

It has good support. It's arguably the best phone for the money you can get.

The Zenfone 2 was such a shilled meme. Jesus what a disaster.

There was anon on here a few weeks ago that said he was interested in buying my Moto G if I put in on Swappa. Said he'd be around so I should just bring it up when I was ready to sell. Just posting to see if you're on here.

Is it the 1st gen moto X or the 2nd gen moto X?
>>

2nd gen, with the bamboo backing.
I'm miffed by the fact that Motorola blocked removable batteries and an SD card slot and I heard the G4 is one of the best I can get
