My wife's son tablet (old one with android 4) got a fake ransomware. it blocked your tablet claiming that they had crypted all your files and that you had to pay a ransom to get everything back etc etc.
I searched it up on google and apparently it was a virus that used a vulnerability of the default browser in some non recent android versions. You could not access options, you could not access other apps, you could not access your launcher, you could not do anything. Installing some ransom remover via playstore remote on a pc didn't fix a shit.
Factory reset fixed it tho.
I then rooted my wife's son device and installed AdAway so he can now continue to watch all the porn he wants.

I had to fix a Android phone recently which had malware that infected the fucking system restore partition. I had to reflash a image from the bootloader. It was completely unusable because of all the malware install prompts/porn/random Chinese popups. I'm not sure how people manage to fuck up their devices this badly.
