hello ted cruz

Alright, my Yuin PK2 earphones died on me for the second time and I want something different since the build quality is obviously very poor.

I'm interested in canalphones but the problem is I can't really have anything that cancels out noise too much. I work as an intern MD at a hospital, and I have a really comfy position where I can basically listen to music most of the time. However, I need to be able to leap into action if one of the nurses hits an alarm because a patient is like choking on their dinner and turning blue. The Yuin PK2 were pretty much the perfect balance since they cancelled out a decent amount of background sound, but still made the hospital alarm perfectly audible.

So what the fuck do I buy?
>>
>>52875879
Do you have a suggestion?
>>
>>52877576
The problem is that the PK2 are earbuds, so almost any IEM will have more isolation. There aren't any good earbuds though.

Some IEMs with relatively low isolation to check out:
Soundmagic PL50
Brainwavz M3 or M5
JVC HA-FXT90

>>52877666
Not him but for a good open headphone at that price, you may need an amp which will require additional money.

For closed, the DT770 80 ohm is a great option. It's overpriced on Amazon right now so get it on eBay or something.

Does anyone have any recommendations for an inexpensive set of earbuds?

I used to use some Apple earpods I got as a gift, but recently lost them. So I'm in the market for something new. I'm not an audiophile, and the earpods were high quality audio in my book.

So any advice?
>>
Just bought a pair of these beauties. Pain in the ass that I'll have to wait till May 1, but whatever, it's worth it. Wasn't impressed with the DT880 600Ohm I'm using now. Think these will be a lot better. Perhaps less ear rape treble, more present bass, similar mids. Should be a good deal less leakage as well.

I wish. But i read certain headphone benefit from proper amp.

>>52878469
No shop provide the service in my country. Either buy or sell it later if you dont like.

But i'm leaning toward O2 amp. But i worried it will change the sound dramatically.
>>
>>52878244
As you already get sufficient volume, amplifier likely won't change a thing other than allowing you to get more volume. It won't hurt though. O2 is good if you want a peace of mind.
>>
>>52876730
How to into headphones? I listen to music constantly and known for a fact my current cheapo $60 headphones are failing me in sound quality with all the nigger base, how do I even start to understand what to buy that's better? Don't know what the graphs mean with Fidelity and everything, but I know I like a crisp clear trebble
>>
>>52878187
They leak similarly to open headphones. Nobody really considers them 'true' closed headphones because of it.

How "deep" are the k702? The problem with most models I tested today was the plastic inside the earcups pressing on my ears.
>>
>>52882705
I would say that the earpads are thich enough to avoid contact with the drivers. The K702 has angled earpads, which provide better seal and more spatious sound. I had two X2 in the past, both were defective, I returned them to Amazon, I got the refund and I bought a K702 and a Fiio E10K for less. I couldn't be happier.

The sound on these is great. Imo the 990 focuses more on the treble and the 880 is more neutral. Also, the 880 has better bass. People sometimes describe the 990 as "harsher" but I quite liked it, also considering the price.

speed meaning how "fast" the sound producing elements reset to 0. They say that dynamic is slowest, planars faster, statics are the fastest

It sounds like you skipped out on mathematics or elementary physics; either course would define the concept of speed.
A definition from a dictionary:
>The rate or a measure of the rate of motion, especially:
>a. Distance traveled divided by the time of travel.
>b. The limit of this quotient as the time of travel becomes vanishingly small; the first derivative of distance with respect to time.
>c. The magnitude of a velocity.

When do I need an amp?

I'm having trouble finding what my motherboard can do. One website suggestions up to 600O, but doesn't less Ohm mean less resistance? Isn't that what makes better sound?

Is there a beginner guide somewhere? A video beginner guide. Not a long drawn out wiki made by enthusiasts.
>>
>>52884554
Amplifier/DAC checklist:

-Is it too quiet?
-Is the output impedance too high (fixable by equalization)?
-Is there noise/EMI or hiss to it?
-Does it sound distorted as you start to crank up the volume?
If the answer is no, don't get one.

The only thing that would happen is the headphone would be too quiet. Most headphones aren't even that insensitive, unless you are talking about those horrible European limited devices or something.

This isn't that important, and it doesn't say much anything without headphone sensitivity.

ohms are related to the difficulty to drive but it's not as simple as "you can drive up to X ohms"

I could finally take that foil around the earcups off, since my headphone stand finally arrived today.
I also soldered a mini-XLR plug onto a nice single sleaved cable with a mic on it that runs to a splitter.

So let me get this right.

There is better bass in closed headphones, but the positional audio is worse for games and it doesn't sound as "natural" or like you're actually there?

Not quite.

I've said it before here, Audiobot isn't that good in that it tends to underestimate maximum SPL, sometimes very severely.
Audiophiles also tend to severely overestimate how much power they actually need and use.

the other models saw more time of marketing and/or use by the public, have different looks, which might be more appealing (but this is just a conjecture) and the Q701 kept the headband lumps that som many find uncomfortable, while the others got new, flat headbands.

I love them but a word of warning about the comfort. You need to insert them really deep in the ear canal which is quite sensitive area for many people. Once in place they isolate like nothing else and the response after the ER-4S adapter is amazing, really close to the DF target and it sounds incredibly clear. Honestly the best sound from earphones/headphones I've heard.

>I'd want more headroom than 106dB.
No you don't, baka. 70-80 dB is safe SPL for long listening, a higher level is going to damage your ears.
>>
>>52884879
>is there any calculation i can make to find what is the exact amount of amplification a headphone needs, based on impedance and sensitivity?
Headphones with identical voltage sensitivity are equally loud with identical voltage. There is no way to control power into a load besides adjusting voltage or current, but amplifiers are normally voltage sources. Our equation therefore:
>Target SPL = Sensitivity of headphone at certain voltage + 20 log (needed voltage / reference voltage)
The calculation is done entirely with Root Mean Square (RMS) voltage.
An example:
>105 dB = 82 dB (at 0.1 Vrms) + 20 log (needed voltage/ 0.1 Volts)
>23 = 20 log (V1 / 0.1 V)
>1.15 = log (V1 / 0.1)
>14.1 ~ V1/ 0.1
>1.41 ~ Voltage

>if i hypothetically wanted to build an amp for an specific headphone.
Do you really want to ask this question?

Nice dude. I still keep my K702 laying on the desk, because I'm afraid that a classic headphone stand like the one you got can cause stress to the headband after some time. As for the cable, I've been thinking about buying this: http://www.amazon.it/dp/B00WES6JJ2/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2L4UVPNFS1L3A&coliid=I2GRQC1ACUFSRP, because the stock cable is too long for me.
>>
>>52886173
set windows volume to as loud as you can go without any static or distortion, then only use the knob on the e10k to change volume
>>
>>52885936
Yes I do. You could safely listen through the entire day at 70dB and for at least 8 hours straight at 80dB. However I never do listen to that long in a one session and I like my music, some of it at least, to be loud. The reasons why I want the amplifier to have more headroom than what 106dB gives me are:

-I will equalize and lose a considerable amount of SPL here
-I sometimes do listen really high dynamic range music and I prefer the peaks to be loud while having the general range to be at a comfortable listening level which is usually on the loud side
-I don't want to turn the volume knob all the way up to avoid channel imbalance and risk potential distortion caused by the amplifier. I would likely have to turn it all the way up on some content if my setup only allowed 106dB without EQ.

Sudden bursts of high SPL like 106dB aren't any more harmful than long sessions of listening at a lower volume. With low dynamic range music the 106dB would most likely do well for me(this depending on the headphone equalization though) but for some content(movies for example) the headroom is really nice to have. Besides the only downside for headroom I can think of is me accidentally turning the volume too high.
>>
>>52886173
-Put the volume at 100 in Windows or at maximum on whatever OS you are on
-Adjust the volume with the pot
-Maybe install Equalizer APO if you are into that
>>
>>52886196

>>
>>52886280
Yeah, unfortunately I can't find the 1,20m cable of that kind anywhere in my country. The shortest one is 1,5m, which is half as long as the stock cable.
>>
Tonight's the night. I've scoured HPG for weeks now (you might recognize me as the autistic drummer asking for iems and headphones every fucking day) and I've decided my ears have had enough, a click track must be used.

Audio Technica ATM-IM70s cost $100 usd, have the bass end I need as well as the treble, seems like a clean ass deal, but Audio-Technica ATH-M50 studio monitors are the same price used. So if I can get studio monitors for 100 USD, there has to be superior IEMS with the V frequency as well as extreme isolation (not worried about entering the silent world), and great sound quality. I have $150 allocated for these and I'd like them to last until I end up buying customs and a whole plethora of equipment for when the sound guy is the bartender's girlfriend's dog.

if you have your amp on your desk its going to be just as annoying as the 3m one
>>
>>52884910
it should be clear, fag. The dynamic drivers cant reset themselves in time to keep up with the music. Planars can to some degree, but moving a magnet is still 2 slow. Electrostatics only need to change electricity, so they're by far the fastest to reset back to 0. They say electrostats are like entering a new dimension of sound...

>>52886372

The size affects the fit. If you prefer a deep fit, the earpiece and large stem complicate that, although it was meant to be a shallow fit design. I found it workable enough.
Sound is good, as long as you want a bass lift.
