Reddit is open source, while 4chan is not.

Why don't you browse reddit instead of this place?
>>
Because 4chan is anonymous and reddit is not.
>>
>>52874787
Reddit and 4chan are web services. It does not make sense to refer to them as "open source" or "closed source" because they aren't software programs distributed and meant to be run on your own personal computer.

Only good thing about reddit are small boards and a couple of others that I go just to get sport news. Other than that, all those 'entertainment' and circlejerky boards like funny, 4chan, imgoingtohellforthis, android all that other shit are literally the worst place on the internet. I don't know if they are just kids or what but just looking at comments there give me cancer.
>>
I browse both, but I don't care about either being open source. If either are tracking me or collecting my data, it doesn't matter if it's FOSS or not.
>>
>>52875226

It adds unnecessary retardation to things that just werked, i.e. I can't use my keyboard after locking my screen and I have to first click the mouse to then enter my password, and it had its fair share of shitty support when it came out. GPU drivers crashing left and right. This is actually my second attempt at it and those driver issues are gone now.

So far there's absolutely no benefit over 8.1 whatsoever and disabling the windows update service is a must. Seriously, with it active you might as well willingly download some kind of adware because it bugs the every living fuck out of you with forced updates.

When compared to 7 I think it's worth it, provided you disable windows update like I said, or just stay on 8.1

The reason I grabbed it was due to dx12 exclusiveness fuckery so I might as well get this trash while it's still free.

>>52875257

4chan has a deal with J-List, sells passes, and that's about it.

Why 4chan isn't open source?

1. Embarrassing spaghetti code.
2. Security through obscurity.

It's not like it's some super advanced software they're keeping secret, it's just a slightly modified version of Yotsuba.

And that's the difference between reddit and 4chan.

If you post this here people will generally agree with you. But if you post this there they will brigade and downvote the ever living fuck out of you and try to say something bad about you and your posting history in order to dismiss the evidences you're bringing up.

Microsoft shilling is just hilarious though, it sticks out as a sore thumb.

Here, have more added to your collection. I took these myself two years ago.

Last month I saw a reddit thread with a news article of a guy complaining about a datacap bill he got because windows 10 forcibly downloaded itself on his pc without his consent. It was hilarious seeing the microsoft shills upvoting each other and saying how we should not blame microsoft, but the ISPs instead. They were basically screaming "LOOK AT THE OTHER THING! LOOK AT THE OTHER THING!"

Mods here are better. You can get banned from a subreddit so easily. Seriously, go over to the Bitcoin subreddit and post "Blockstream Coin" you'll probably get banned by mods. Bonus points for calling out mod for pocketing money, but claims he is paying someone $100,000 USD a month to create a new forum.

SRUM or "System Resourse Usage Monitor forensic Artifact" is a good example.

https://uk.sans.org/posters/windows_artifact_analysis.pdf

This thing literally throws everything you do and how many cycles you use doing something into a database.

There's not much information or documentation of this, but there's a decent talk on a podcast run by an ex-FBI guy interviewing someone who did some research into it.

"The Microsoft Windows 8 operating system has a newly added feature to track system resource usage, specifically process and network metrics over time. Process related information such as process owner, CPU cycles used, data bytes read/written, and network data (sent/received) are continuously recorded by a mechanism called System Resource Usage Monitor (SRUM). This paper describes the SRUM mechanism, its databases, Windows registry entries, data logging, and potential uses in a forensic examination. Prior to this applied research, no tools were available to parse the SRUM data to a usable format. As part of this paper, two scripts have been developed to aid forensic examiners who would want to read, parse, and decode this information from a forensic disk image."

By being anonymous you can say what you think, freely. No one will grant you bad reputation for the rest of your life and no one is even allowed to downvote so that you could see your post has -10000 points, meaning that everyone thinks you're a retard. If there is no voting and there is anonymity, people have to respond to you and perhaps explain why they think you're a retard, so there's some base for their claims.

You can make a fool out of yourself and come back in two minutes and behave better. If you do that with a nickname you're already branded a fool. Having to think about other people's reaction changes your behaviour and that's why people try to be as funny as they can, so others would like them. This leads to same jokes circling over and over again.

only good thing about reddit is that it keeps the cancer out. oh wait, the cancer kids want to be edgy, hip and cool, so they come to 4chinz and ruin it for the rest by bringing in their 'reddit humor'

>pic related; typical reddit user
>>
Self censoring, hivemind with jurisdiction, predominantly 'high horse' userbase for the most part.

4chan is shit too, but it's a different shit. Like a car door that wont open, but at least it's not because of a kiddie-lock.

Having said that, since 4chan has gained popularity over the years, particularly during row row fight the power and V for Vendetta, it definitely did change in a similar direction.

>>52877683
I care because if I post something with actual effort on it I'm looking for it to spark some discussion involving both sides of the matter. If I post it it's because I want it to be read and given some thought, even if they don't answer or vote. That's the whole point of posting.

>>52877707
If it's not clear I'm going to say it again: If I post it I pretend it to be read, even if it doesn't actually get answered or voted. If someone wants to skip it that's fine too. Now if it just gets hidden in a sea of shit or simply downvoted to oblivion because some people dislike the fact that their precious franchise is actually not that liked by some people with factual opinions, then well why should I even contribute to anything at all? Better to just leave in the bubble, they aren't going to change their minds in the slightest.

I don't even know why this even needs any explaining. I feel you are very deliberately dense about this.
>>
>>52877683
That's how it should be. It's a 'sidegrade' when downvotes/upvotes are just cosmetic. Burying opinions is no good. Though, voting systems should still relegated to more objective discussions.

This. You aren't running the code, and have no way of proving that it's that code running on the server.
>>
It's as simple as the culture. You basically have to take any jokes, ideas or arguments for their base content here. You won't know who's actually posting it. Could be some 14-year-old, could be Obama getting in some shitposting before bed. Since you will never know, the only thing you have to go on is the words they choose. THIS is how equal grounds work.

Reddit requires a name and password to post. You do not own this account, it can be perma banned. People will treat you about the same unless they hate your account name, or like it, or maybe they didn't like some stupid post from the past you made and they constantly downvote you now. Or you're real fucking popular with these retards and it's constant upvotes for dry content.

Culture is key.

>>
>>52880973
The voting system on reddit actually improves the discussion culture on that board most of the time. Quality posts that contain good argumentations will usually get upvoted and put into a more prominent place.

Things that get downvoted are usually just trolls or stupid spam like writing "I disagree" without giving any form of explanation, not valid critique.

At least it beats the 4chan way of preventing unliked content (spamming scat porn and gore) in any way.

Not really, because the world has never truly witnessed a real 'pure' communist government or fascist government really. The closes fascist government that successfully flourished was Imperial Rome until its inevitable downfall due to capitalism, and fascist Italy until they were stuck joining sides with Hitler.
