Isn't it ironic how now, when mobile hardware is as fast and low energy as ever, devices like this stopped being made? You would think that all the advances in technology would allow for more innovative devices yet technology seems to be as boring because companies don't dare to take risks.
>>
>>52868819
Because they were autism devices. Modern people have moved onto smartphones and tablets. If you really needed some clunky device with a keyboard to do extended shitposting you can use a laptop, since these things are no more portable than a laptop in the first place.
>>
>>52868819
They were overpowered and overpriced for most of the shit people were doing with them, people could now just surf facebook and check email with their "good enough" phones and tablets that were vastly cheaper.

>>52868843
>autism
Normalfags don't really give a shit about what computers you use, stop being so insecure.

But seriously, try using even some new 11'' widescreen abomination on an airplane or in a car and come back to me about that whole "portability" thing. They had their place, but it was too niche to last.

True but you could've picked literally any non samsung phone at the store and it would've been better.

I fell for it too. It's a sexy as fuck phone, and has some incredible specs, but the flaws will start to glare over time and yes, touchwiz DOES still lag. They made massive improvements, but it's still a sack of shit.

I recently sold mine and picked of an LG G4 and I am infinitely happier.

There is a mini-pcie card from broadcom that costs like 20 bucks on amazon that enables HW decoding of many formats. I used to have one in my old netbook. I could watch FHD rips on it without problem.
Found one on amazon.

Could've ordered it online.

Oh well I hope it works out for you, but I'm sure you'll be regretting it in 6 months.

Only thing I miss about my s6 at this point is the ridiculously fast Fast Charging.

but the LG G4 has vastly superior battery life so it's a fair trade.

however- its thick enough that I can fit a rasp pi in it, so I'm gonna rip out the crap that's currently in it, I've gotta get my hands on the keyboard controller IC and learn how to interface it with the i/o ports on the rpi, probably buy and led 9inch display and hook that up to a rechargeable battery, should be a fun summer project

would be cooler as is desu, should just see if you can fit it in the battery compartment and access it through direct serial, would make it a comfy email checker/programming/ssh system that you can mess around with abandonware on the side

whatever though, toshiba laptops were easily the most common portables of the early '90s, would still be a shame to see it get gutted if it still works OK though, there's plenty of broken shit out there you can try that with instead

>>
>>52875807

Because they're unique. There's not a shit ton of laptops manufactured in that form factor, thus the cost goes up.

Go look up the Vaio UX series on ebay. They are like Core Solo CPU's running Windows XP and they usually don't sell for under $200.... usually around $300 to be honest
>>
>>52874331

posting from x200 right now, my nigerian

picked it up for $35, only at about ~$110 right now after adding a brand new OEM battery ($40 on ebay) and chink 60GB SSD. I get 6hrs battery life with max brightness + wifi, pretty comfy.

X220 is also an option but will be closer to $200 by the time you kit it out fully. Gets closer to 9-10 hours with a new battery, and you get more performance but it's more of a normiefag laptop than the x200 (has touchpad, no screen latch, less indicator leds).
>>
>>52875807
because normies overestimate the price of old hardware. It's always been like this.
>>
>>52868448
As nice as that looks, is worth about its long-term longevity of it was being carried every day.

>>52872126

Have a VAIO Pro 11, this is still the perfect ultrabook nearly 3 years later
>>
>>52876423
Nobody would be selling it at those prices, if nobody would buy it. It's like anything else: it's worth whatever someone will pay for it. Sometimes it's worth more sold as individual components, like car parts in the early 2000s. Sometimes it's worth more than something demonstrably better by every objective criteria.

For me, someone who wants a modern tiny laptop, it sucks. I'm stuck between getting a macbbok air 12" that's still bigger than i want and costs like a used car, a three gen old netbook with almost the perfect form factor but no CPU muscle, or a ten year old laptop for more than the netbook, with the perfect firm factor and less CPU than a wristwatch. Literally.

I'd happily pay $1k for something the size of the VAIO OP posted, with a current Intel portable CPU. Probably be willing to sirens $1500 even if the resolution was good and the battery was >12h, but that's a unicorn by then.

I used to have one, if you PLAN on buying it make sure to get the extended battery. It has feet that tilts the laptop towards you and essentially doubles the battery life. I watched a few movies on it and after 5 hours it finally started dimming the screen to save power.

if you were to buy one I'd recommend one like in the OP. those vaios that the color wraps from the bottom to the front of the keyboard are faster than my 1st generation one.
