Any tips for left handed writing?
I just can't get a grip.
>>
>>52860384
What's the problem with left handed writing? I'd assume smearing, but is there anything else? For smearing, I'd use quick drying ink and some sort of downward grip. Gripping the pen by the barrel, not the grip could also help.

Well, my biggest problem is that cursive writing just isn't very compatible with left-handedness, the way the letters are formed, I believe designed with the movement of the right hand in mind.

I tried but I am so used to hooking, I find it very hard to adjust.
I guess that is part of the path to change, so maybe I'll just have to bear with it.

Empty it out every week or so and flush it with warm water.
Every couple of months add a flush with some dish soap.
Check on youtube how to disassemble it and if it ever dries out on you clean out each part with a soft toothbrush.

>>

Platinum Preppy is THE beginner's pen, and I'll always recommend it because it's actually really nice to use: the EF nib is hairline thin, smooth, good flow and excellent as an eyedropper (never leaks, huge ink)

The cap will crack if treated roughly, but it's a $5 pen.

The Kakuno is outmoded by the Preppy

Whats up with all this cursive meme in this thread? We were forced to use cursive in school when i was young and i was so happy when i was able to drop that shit later and write all pretty and normal like the computer does. Most of nonautistic people can't even read the shitty cursive anymore.
>>
>>52880035
Cursive is legit faster to write if you're decent at it.

Most people I know (who write a lot) write a sort of "mixture" of cursive and print; it isn't quite either, the letters are somewhat connected like in cursive but still look quite like print.
>>
>>52880160
Are you young? Like, up to 30? A lot of places don't teach cursive anymore, so they just print fast enough that letters blur together. It's what I do.
>>
>>52879949

That was the original plan actually, but I don't like the hardcover moleskines.

Plus they are ugly.
>>
>>52880349
I've heard that Moleskines are pretty shit for fountain pens. Get Field Notes instead.
>>
>>52880179
Me too.
I was only taught print writing in school, but once I had to start writing quickly the letters just start to connect themselves because I don't have time to lift the pen off the page.
After a while I learned 'full' cursive because it just looks nicer.
>>
Reminder that your pen wont make you a better artist/calligrapher/typographist, so on, so forth. Don't worry too much about the gear- whatever works, works. Focus on what you can do with it and push that to the maximum possible extent. You'd be better off in /ic/ than getting advice here.
>>
>>52880361

>Field Notes

I handled a few and wasn't impressed.

For one, they have the ugly ass "FIELD NOTES" printed on the front cover instead of being plain black or something.

And for another they are all small as shit.
>>
>>52880444
Ah, wasn't sure what you were looking for, I figured it was the little pocket sized ones. Rhodia is my go-to, Exacompta is good too, if you want something toothier
>>
>>52880179
Well, my country will stop teaching cursive to kids this year. So everyone I know - of whom the youngest is my little brother at 14 years old - has learned cursive up to this point.
>>
>>52880496
24 in the US here, spent a week or two on it in 3rd/4th grade. If it's neat enough, I can struggle to read it, but I don't know it well enough to write it.
>>
>>52880515
I'm 22 in a nordic country, I spent like 3-4 years writing nearly everything in cursive - it was forced, you weren't allowed to write in print.

And so did every kid other here up to this year; they only just now changed the syllabus.
>>
>>52880477
>Rhodia

Looks nice, especially the leather memo covers. Though I wish they were for notebooks and not legal pad style.

Might pick one up.
>>
>>52874356
You can stop it for a second, otherwise you can get a sponge to spill it into if you can't hold mid-stream. Afterwards just fill up again and write on. After all that shit, I'd probably do a bladder enema just to be sure.

Here in Poland everybody starts learning cursive in late kindergarten and are obligated to use it throughout the whole schooling system (notes, exams, essays, reports etc.). I'm sure many, if not most of European countries have it the same, so the idea of being unable to write cursive (and the prospect of not knowing how to write at all) really baffles me.
>>
>>52880745
Fucking this. This is why cursive is dumb. I get that it can be faster, and it looks great with some inks shading, but everyone ends up writing it their own way, and it looks different as fuck. You know what the letters look like when you print? LETTERS. Also, do computers use cursive? No. They don't. Do doctors use cursive? I'm not actually sure, I'm not a pharmacist. Plus it's an entirely separate set of letters to learn for a language you already know.

Well, these are the new official models for the alphabet. No more cursive for the kids.

Yeah, I think it would be better to still teach it. But I'm sure the folks at the national board of education have considered more things than I have.
>>
>>52880812

>>
>>52880812
It's probably because you have many umlauts. So you have to keep on lifting the pen.
>>
>>52880812
International use of the letters, for one. If you learn cursive, you tend to know it when it's slightly different. If you learn print, you'll be able to read almost all prints. I write like this, personally. For me it's faster, more legible even for people seeing it for the first time (I fuck up r and v sometimes, but mostly not).
