>>
>>52839597
Mate, if you're seriously "forcing yourself" to drink beer or (coffee for that matter) you really should just stop, people might tease ya for it but who gives a shit really?

Personally I've been drinking beer since I well enough figured out what it was, there are good beers and there are bad beers but sure as hell there are beers worth drinking and there are beers that are downright delicious

I can't even imagine having a decent meal in the evening without a couple beers.

But its a to-each-his-own sort of a thing, you don't gotta pretend to like beer if ya don't like it but you've gotta fess up that that's a personal thing not run around spoutin stuff like that "people don't drink it for taste" nonsense, that's just not true.

The spokesperson for "why people drink beer" sure as shit shouldn't be someone who doesn't even like it
>>
>>52837389
Holy fuck these kids are retarded.
>>
>>52839671
>>52839679

Some of us drink both for the taste. OK, not ALL the time. Sure, sometimes you'll just drink shitty coffee or shitty beer for the caffeine or alcohol content.

But sometimes we DO drink a good coffee or a good beer just for the taste.

As you get older your tastes will change. When I was 18, beer tasted like shit to me. Now I'm in my 30's, I genuinely enjoy beer. Especially an ice cold beer on a hot summer's day.

That might happen to you too, or it might not. Who knows, who cares? But just because *you* don't like beer or coffee doesn't mean no one else does.

I for one can't fucking stand the taste of rockmelon. Cantaloup. Hate the stuff, can't imagine how anyone could enjoy it. But my wife does enjoy it. It's just personal preferences.

When I was learning some stuff from Cisco Networking Academy that was based on the A+ material I noticed this and decided the cert was worthless to me. Not only was 90% of it SUPER basic (at least to me, whose grown up with computers like most of /g/), but it was heavily based on Windows and a lot of other archaic shit.
>>
>>52837931
It's the way we talk, I think. We don't think much of it, and people outside of our community needlessly focus on it. So this leads to an outsider seeing us posting about anime, traps, calling each other fucking faggots, randomly shitposting about stuff, and other stuff that's really not a big deal at all, but to them we're a REALLY bad-looking tech forum, basically.
>>
>>52839597
I understand where you're coming from, but both coffee and dark chocolate have the appeal of a slight bitterness being enjoyable. Black coffee? No thanks, but even coffee full of sugar or ice cream or whatever syrup shit you pour in it retains some of the coffee flavor, and I find that enjoyable. As for alcohol, I haven't had much of it, or any of it often, but I recall enjoying the taste of wine to some extent. Can't see myself drinking to get drunk, but if I was trying to keep up a facade for some reason I think I could drink wine with no complaints.

I'm an autist with social anxiety, though, so I doubt I'd willingly put myself in a situation where I'm being social and drinking anyway. If I did, it'd be with close friends and I wouldn't feel the need to fit in and drink with them.
>>

>I've used a VCR, a floppy, a walkman-like device
Congratulation jism.
>>
>>52843522
This.
>>52843632
Maybe if you're on /g/ for the entirety of the first hour. People outside of here, and even some on here are peddling Ubuntu and convincing you it's a GOOD thing to not "have to" use the command line. Shit leads to no one learning anything until they have to, and then when that hits it feels like you've wasted years of your life.

I've gone through these stages several times now. First when I transitions from *buntu and its spinoffs like Mint to CrunchBang and then later Debian and learning more about everything. Then years later when I decided to try Arch after only using Debian for a long time. It was fucking great, unlike all the memes here and elsewhere on the Internet. I'm definitely seeing diminishing returns as far as learning more after switching to Debian, but boy am I happier on Arch.

I'm starting to see that Arch isn't perfect, it's just the Debian is seriously imperfect and it shows. They modify packages, don't stay up to date even on unstable branch, etc. Still, Arch is a breath of fresh air for me and I've gotten a lot of friends to use it no problem now as well.
>>
>>52843785
Actually, yes. If you think about it as making stuff look pretty it would be understandable that it sounds like just a waste of time, but realistically you're spending time in man pages, wikis, and editing all sorts of config files. You might even learn a bit of color theory while matching your wallpaper to your term colors.

I'd say you should avoid dropping the term "ricing" in front of an interviewer, more because it's vaguely offensive to some normies and it would be awkward to explain the definition than anything.
>>
>>52844224
Most people I've met who worked at McD's or equivalent just get passed around the various jobs there, so if hypothetically you had to learn how to use their computers or something, I could see the OP's question being asked. That, or the interviewer could just be trying to see what type of person you were by asking some unrelated questions.

I think it originated more with cars than computers. My dad always laughs when I say it. Something to do with asians, I think. They put flashy stuff like lights and decals on their car. I think it's "rice" instead of "nice" because they're asian.

We've turned it into an activity instead of an adjective here, but I think this is where it comes from. 'ricer'

Actually, as a faggot with social anxiety disorder, I can tell you that that it does in fact help relieve SAD temporarily when I am intoxicated. It helps me open up, and be more social, maybe to the point where I can be viewed as obnoxious. Drinking almost became a casual but very common thing I did. Nevertheless, I regret doing so and I have stopped ever since, but mostly because of the drop in mental well-being that I have observed, not because of serious health/side effects.

Some people are not power users and never will need to be. If all you ever use your computer for is emails and cat videos Ubuntu is perfect.

I socially drink with people of my student syndicate and we laugh a lot making marxist puns so don't worry about me, but I never drink alcohol.

I don't like your way of implying your ability to get hired determines your absolute value. It determines your economic value, if anything.
>>
>>52857664
So I assume you never send http requests to Linux servers, right? Have you ever heard of this neat new thing called 'world wide web'? Outside of 4chan, I mean, who as everyone knows runs on a cluster of Mac Minis.
>>
>>52837365
It means you're not qualified. Only small businesses do not use Linux. Large businesses use RedHat and CentOS.

No, that's Google and Facebook. VMWare and Oracle are filled with professionals who want to loosen their tie and drink classics at the end of the day before illegally driving home and coming to work the next day like most professionals in any field.

No. Don't post that bitch, not even ironically. Keep her face away from our sanctuary.

Just. No.

Not even close.

It's far more important to have employees who can work well together.

Employees spend more time with each other than they do their families, and while you can train an affable person on a technology or platform, you can't train the asshole out of a person who is an asshole.
