And yet still far better than iOS or Android. Tablets are about the only thing Windows is good for.
>>
>>52706070
expensive, dull, no SD slot
apart from the nexus name what actually makes you want this?
the way i see it the only reason to get a tablet is having a bigger screen (for watching videos) than your phone while you're traveling so it doesn't need to be powerful, just a good screen and good battery life
>>
Pick your poison /g/

>8" tablets
>9.7" tablets
>10.1" tablets

I think 9.7" tablets are the best for one hand use, after that they became too big and overweight for long peridos of time

go ahead and explain why windows is better than a mobile OS

i carry both an android and window tablet daily, windows is so un-touch freindly even at 1280x800 with low dpi. android power management is miles better and its objectively quicker and easier to use
>>
>>52706239
I expect my tablet to do more than my phone. With that big of a screen a mobile OS would be a waste. Plus this way I can use real programs instead of smartphone apps. If I ever want/need something Android I can always just reboot.
>>
>>52706275
Yup, I just cannot live without using FULL WINDOWS PROGRAMS like MICROSOFT WORD on my touchscreen tablets.
>>
>>52706205
Why is the old S8.4 better than the new S2 8.0? I'm looking on buying the S2 8.0
>>
>>52706155
You can find them for ~$200 now. I don't think that's too expensive for a tablet. I also stream virtually all my media so storage isn't really a problem.

The design, the updates, 4:3 aspect ratio, 9" screen is why I want it. I just wanna know if there are any performance issues, or build issues the tablet might have.
>>
>>52706287
Yes, because a word processor is a good example of something I'd use on a tablet. The greatest benefit is using Opera 12.16
>>
>>52706182
I think 8" is suited better for reading books and manga and 9.7" for comics and PDF's right?
>>
>>52706275
ok but you're still not saying what you do on a windows tablet that you can't on android
>>
>>52706308
Higher resolution. Better battery life. Cheaper. Aspect ratio (personal preference).
>>
>>52706287

Should I?
>>
>>52706391
>i carry both an android and window tablet daily
guess you didn't read that bit
windows is fine for a desktop/laptop but objectively useless on a tablet
>>
>>52706308
16:10 aspect ratio is better for media in general (videos and comics). 4:3 aspect ratio is better for articles and books.
>>
>>52706407
I don't need specific examples, desktop applications are just better. I can't really give too many right now anyway, I haven't used Windows on my tablet in quite a while. It's got Windows 10 so it's basically being used as an Android tablet till I get around to installing Windows 8
>>
>>52706422
so if portability isn't an issue i think you're better off getting a bigger tablet like all these new 12" ones
>>
>>52702086
Yes I own the first gen iPad
I watch anime and movies on it

>>
>>52706523

>>
>>52706535
Opera's browser on Android is just a browser. The browser on desktop operating systems is an application suite.
>>

and why dont you just get a laptop if you're require a desktop os

This is assuming that every single thing I use on Windows is available on Android. That is false. Also yes I can do most of those things, but 8 hours of battery is more than enough so I could't really give less of a shit. I'm not going to use shittier everything software-wise just for additional battery life I don't need

>>52706646

>>52706771

What the fuck does that even mean? That's the most retarded thing I've ever heard. An email client is an email client. A web browser is a web browser.
>>
>>52706771
claiming its better=/=explaining why
>>
>>52706794
Yes, mail clients are mail clients and browsers are browsers, Opera is an Internet suite that has one of each.
>>
>>52706810
It being built into the browser is enough to make it better. Not to mention that as a standalone client it's still better than any other. If you're interested in why you're free to look into it.
>>
>>52705846
>>52705966
It's pretty good for what it is, a 50 lumen picoprojector. I was happy using it in a dorm. The room better be treally dark though.
>>
>>52706833
How is being built into the browser an advantage? I seriously can't imagine how long you have to spend reading emails for whatever inane features of Opera Mail that you claim are advantages to even matter.
>>
>>52706868
My browser's always open, with that there's no need for a mail client to run in the background. Normally when emailing someone it's clicking a link from a webpage, why leave my browser when I can have the necessary tools built in? It's convenient as fuck and shows up as a tab, so you can switch between your mail client and browser tabs without ever switching applications
>>
>>52706857
does it just mirror the display or is it app specific, i could never get an awnser for this question

what do you make of the new model? (smaller, different projector mounting point, etc)
>>
>>52706471
Yeah, but those things are expensive as shit. I'm looking for price/performance balance.
>>
>>52706916
Switching a tab and switching applications are pretty much the EXACT same thing. Your screen changes to something else.
>>
>>52706942
No the whole browser stays the same, just the content of the page changes
>>
>>52706916
you like stuff being built into a browser and you think that makes it better
lol do you own a chromebook too?
>>
>>52706965
How is that any different in practicality than clicking a link and having an email application open?
>>
>>52706971
Certain things being built in definitely make it better.
>do you own a Chromebook?
Only because Google gave it to me for free
>>
>>52706998
You've just got to try it, it's a far superior way to browse the web. I've already explained it's advantages and you're just not catching on, this argument's not going to progress till you try it firsthand
>>
>>52707028
No you haven't. Think of a web browser and an email client, instead of being separate applications, being "tabs" of the operating system. Now explain to me how your situation is any different.
>>
>>52706931
I've only ever used it for watching my Chinese cartoons so as far as I know it only mirrors the display. I see the new model as more of a sidegrade than a true upgrade. I remember checking specs and the projector being slightly better along with a slightly better processor. Build quality is probably better though; the cheap plastic back can flex on you. 13.3 is pretty nice for manga/comics.
>>
>>52707044
I'm done, I've spent more than enough time telling you advantages and in the end I find it to be superior, which given I'm the one running the application on my device, that's all that fucking matters

No. I had a first gen Nexus 7 with a 1280x800 resolution and it was terrible for reading books because you could count the pixels on each letter.

I have a nexus 9, i mostly like it. For some reason some of the software support is rubbish though, despite having a slightly better processor than the Nvidia Shield.

I don't know why tegra shit isn't supported on here.

Would love a keyboard for it, but the official folio case is too pricy. Any decent cheap ones?

I own few, with variable degree of satisfaction.
Lenovo Miix 2, 8'. As far as tablets go, this is dreadful. Desktop windows is a failure on the go and inherent design flaws, mainly being cheap and thus underpowered means that in comparison even to shitty tablets running on android, it fails.
As a portable windows device thou..I've needed replacement for aging EEE 900, Miix delivered that in even smaller package than netbook. 3/5
Nexus 7, first gen. Sold it sometime ago, before it's storage started degrading. Awesome device, great battery life but lack of sd card slot meant it had to go.
>>52704788
>yoga tablet 2
I've got first gen myself, I am probablyspoiled by kickstand enough that I won't be buying any other tablet in the future. Also, picoprojector.
Cheap 10' and 7' tablets that hang on walls and act as security monitors/weather stations. Cheaper than dedicated solutions and in a pinch can act as normal android devices, albeit poorly due to low specs.
HTC Shift.
My main mobile device when at uni. Awesome form factor, laughably resolution and high hipster factor but also great typing experience.
>>52706159
8" is sweet spot between portability and screen size for me.
10' is acceptable if in 4:3 form factor.
12' are great when used in living room as multimedia hub or, in case of Galaxy Note, poor mans graphic tablet.
>>52706492
I've been using Notes since first gen and still find tablet useful for some tasks. Then again, I find typing on tablet a form of primitive torture so it is mostly media consumption/games. But that is only me and there is something to be said about carrying only one device around.
>>52707263
What he said. I've cycled through few tablets myself, found Yoga line and now I feel no need to upgrade just because next gen device popped up. Same deal with phone, Note 3 is still more than enough for new software and in raw power comparison.

Movies, mostly from devices memory but lately some netflix too.
Games. I literally bought android tablet because of portable editions of Bioware games and emulators. Some native titles are awesome too, Uplink or banner saga to name few.
Manga and comic books. No reading, cheap 5' e-ink reader for that.
With BT keyboard, notes taking solution for uni.
And usual stuff, mails, web, navigation.

The keyboard takes some getting used to, although the keys are a bit more shallower than laptop keyboards, it has real satisfying clicks which helps with typing speed and accuracy. The trackpad is exactly like a Mac trackpad, it's just smaller so you pretty much have to enable tap to click.
The screen is absolutely top notch, it is made by Panasonic and is tested to be one of the most accurate computer displays ever made by Displaymate.
For drawing, it is very decent. It works absolutely perfect when you do long, fast strokes, the cursor is always exactly under the pen tip. It does suffer when drawing diagonal lines slowly, which doesn't affect the way I draw. Palm rejection is alright, you can turn off finger touch if you only want to use the pen with the display.
>>
>>52710532
desu i wouldn't use it for drawing, more of a laptop replacement. i RDP a lot for work so having that option seems good

It's cool, I was just wary because of the emoji. I'll trust your assessment that it's a solid tablet, other reviews seem to concur with you. I just have to figure out if I want to spend 150-160 euro on what's going to be a glorified manga reader.
>>
Bought a Nexus 7 for cheap a little over a year ago. I've got more than my money's worth out of it, it's nice for web browsing and watching stuff when I want to be away from my desk.
>>
>>52710532
How's gaming on the X7? Obviously nothing intensive, but i love the thought of playing stuff like Endless Legend, Darkest Dungeon, Shadowrun, etc. on one.
>>
>>52710558
I'd personally just use a regular laptop for what you're doing, because it looks like you wouldn't be taking advantage of the tablet features. Because to be honest, using Windows as an iPad-like tablet kinda sucks.
>>
>>52710619
The most intensive thing I run on it is Skyrim, Low-med settings at 1280x800, plays at 35-50FPS. The Atom X7 is pretty potent considering that it's a fanless chip and it doesn't throttle at all in contrast to the shitty Core M chips that Intel made.
