Should I buy a 4790K or are the TIM/delidding/temperature issues enough of a reason to avoid them?
>>
>>52681613
get 5820k
>>
>>52681665
This tbqh senpai. There's zero reason to consider anything else unless you can afford a 5960X.
>>
>>52681665
>>52681691
>tfw also considering 5820K

dammit but it costs like $200 more for me because I can only pick a $300 motherboard. Let me try to find a cheaper motherboard.
>>
We did this earlier the 4790K is thr choice
>>
>>52681709
there are motherboard about $180 if I remember
>>
>>52681665
>get 5820k

5820k is shit.

2 extra cores running slow as fuck.

For gayming, it'll be mostly worse due to its single-core performance - with the exception of shitty games like Arma.

For rendering, it'll negligible because most high-end software is GPU-based with cuda cores.

4790k is literally where you want to be.
>>
>>52681709
The MSI X99A SLI Plus doesn't cost any more than a decent Z97/Z170 board.
>>
>>52681749
That's why you overclock it, you tech-illiterate retard. The 4790K was designed for babies like you who don't know how to get into their BIOS and need a fast clock out of the box. People with a functioning brain can go in and adjust two values themselves.
>>
>>52681749
u a dum dum
>>
>>52681749
>For gayming, it'll be mostly worse due to its single-core performance
still better than amd, and a few fps is just stupid to worry about
>For rendering, it'll negligible because most high-end software is GPU-based with cuda cores.
maybe he doesnt use high end software

Let me let you anons into my world so you can see the turmoil I'm in.

I have $515 on my Amazon account, and I have $755 on a special Best Buy thing I was gifted.

I'm trying to build a PC with these two sources of money. The problem is that Best Buy doesn't have a huge selection, and even when they do, half of it is inflated. Trying to put a build together in this way has been a nightmare for the past two days.

I just don't know what to do.
>>
>>52681816
buy a prebuilt pc at bestbuy, then buy a ssd, psu and gpu from amazon then sell the parts you don't need
>>
>>52681613
You should spend some time with your brother/sister while you still can. My big sister died of a stroke a month ago.

God dam I miss her.
>>
>>52681842
Mr. Tips please go.
>>
>>52681842
Yeah, buy a shitty prebuilt in a garbage tier case with a locked CPU and trash motherboard. Great idea, anon!
>>
>>52681613
You're thinking of the 4770k when it comes to temp issues.

>maybe he doesnt use high end software

The 5820k is a sever-grade processor built for sever-grade functions.

I will never understand why game-kiddies or 99% of consumers buy it. I'm a heavy-duty power user, and I struggle to fill up 5 threads. The times when I DO maxout my hyperthreading, I'm limited by GPU's vram, not the CPU.

The 4790K really isn't any better, despite Intel's bullshit about 5GHz on air pre-release.

Enjoy your dust, noise, lack of expansion or cable routing options and shit tier gaymer design.

Retard.

But then we knew that from your initial suggestion. Back to /v/, kiddo!

Buy Gift CC's from Best Buy, purchase parts through pcpp from newegg/jet/superjiiz/Fry's coupons/etc
>>

>>52681921
they both suffer from the TIM issues. 5820K doesn't because it's soldered because it's not a cheap piece of garbage.
>>
>>52681946
Yup. The 4790K still uses cheap, shitty TIM. It's just 10% LESS shitty than the stuff they used on the 4770K. Intel have to save the half a cent per chip it'd cost them to use solder instead after all.

Yeah, they won't let me just buy some gift cards with it. At this point, I'm considering buying the 5820K, monitor, SSD, keyboard, and mouse at best buy, because it would add up to about $750

and then on amazon, buy the GPU, case, RAM, PSU, heatsink. I can only get 1 8gb stick of ram. god.

This is what I have so far.

Best Buy
> 5820K = $399
> GA-X99-GAMING 5P motherboard = $309
after tax it's like $750, basically all of the money

Amazon
> single 8GB ddr4 2133 stick = $38
> NZXT Source 530 case = $85
> GTX 950 FTW edition = $150
> CM 212 EVO cooler = $30
> EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W $89

after tax, I have like $60 left. could maybe squeeze in an EVO 850 SSD. can't afford a monitor. I'll be stuck with my fucking 15" LCD. I have a HDD, too.

The only thing I can see doing is moving that $85 case over to Best Buy because they actually do stock it, giving me about $145 on Amazon, and picking a X99-A, which they do sell on the marketplace(best buys online shit). god fucking dammit that wouldn't work either because it'd cost too much. fuck fuck fuck

just fuck my shit up, guys.

Here is my 4790K build with this retarded Best Buy/Amazon dual build solution.

Best Buy
> 4790K = $340

for motherboard, whatever is best from this link because I have no idea which to pick that isn't inflated

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?st=lga%201150&_dyncharset=UTF-8&id=pcat17071&type=page&sc=Global&cp=1&nrp=&sp=&qp=category_facet%3DComputer%20Cards%20%26%20Components~abcat0507000^category_facet%3DMotherboards~abcat0507008&list=n&iht=y&usc=All%20Categories&ks=960&keys=keys

> maybe NZXT Source 210 case = $50

> some monitor = $100

> 850 EVO SSD = $65-85

that's basically everything from Best Buy that even has the possibility of not being inflated

Amazon
> GTX 950 = $150
> 16GB DDR3 1600 = $70
> some case $50-$100
> EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W = $89
> nice keyboard = $75
> mouse = $30
and that'd eat the amazon money. mouse i could maybe get at best buy. who the fuck cares. I'm fucked this shit will never work.

I hate this shit
>>
>>52681909
>clocked over 3Ghz

Server grade hardware =/= moar cores enthusiast i7
>>
>>52682230
oh shit I just realized I could add an SSD to >>52682183 but I'll only have 1 8gb stick, otherwise I could have 16gb. so basically i'll have a 15" monitor and shitty keyboard/mouse still.
>>
>>52682370
The HEDT chips are quite literally failed Xeons with disabled cores.

Also, there are server chips with high clock speeds. It depends on the workload you want it for. Intel are rumoured to be releasing a 5.1GHz quad core Broadwell Xeon soon.

>>
This is like a torture scenario
>>
>>52682260
What are you using the computer for? if its gaming, you should buy the cpu and gpu and monitor at bestbuy and mobo, ram, ssd and case on amazon.
>>
>>52682428
also buy a cheaper cpu and a decent gpu

pic related is the front runner for my potential set up right now, just to prove to you guys that I'm actually this dumb. that configuration costs me $1250 after tax.

>>52682428
i don't even play games that much. I play artificial academy 2 when I want to fap and watch streams, edit some videos/music/photos here and there. that's it.
>>
>>52682337
best buy will match prices to pretty much any store even online retailers like newegg, NCIX, memory express etc...
>>
>>52682464
it doesn't even matter. the stuff that i'm actually interested in that they actually stock and will price match is already within $5 of the same price so I really don't give a shit at that point. like i said, their selection sucks ass as it is.
>>
>>52682463
then you are better off buying a prebuilt

he could use all the amazon money to replace the psu or gpu or whatever the fuck else he doesn't want from that but it's a good base to work off of

desu OP just get a 6600K, automatic save of $150 and then with a cheaper $150 motherboar,d you just said another $150. put that $300 into a couple of monitors and a nice keyboard and mouse. there, you have everything and the CPU is still fast. the 2500K is super popular and owners love it because top-tier i5's are always the best bang for buck top end CPUs. it's the same with 2600K guys, too. unless you have a fucking job/career editing video or something, you really don't need a damn 6 core i7, and no it won't be more future proof. you'll use this rig for like 5 years, maybe 6-7 years tops. by then you'll build a new rig no matter what the hell you have inside. we'll have like fucking graphene carbon nanotube fuck CPUs by them and idgaf what CPU you have from 2014-2016, it will suck ass compared to whatever we have in 2021-2023, guaranteed. i say get a 6600K and have fun with the last silicon based chip you'll ever buy.
>>52682687

Why are people buying haswell instead of skylake? not trolling, legit wondering why.
>>
>>52682701
they're out of stock for 6600k and it wouldn't add up on amazon

>>52682753
skylake is sold out everywhere
>>
>>52682772
ahh right, doesn't seem to be any stock issues in australia and there's only $4 difference between 4790k and 6700k
>>
>>52682753
skylake price is inflated and its like only 5% faster than haswell so you might as well buy haswell and save $80

also haswell isn't broken when you put a heavy load on the cpu like skylake is
>>
>>52682701

replace 6600K with 4790K and I agree with this anon. literally no point to a fucking 12 thread CPU if you're not doing super serious work.

I would edit this by taking out the 212 EVO, taking out 1 8GB module, and using that ~$70 for a really nice cooler. 8GB is fine and you can just drop in another stick anytime you want. Also, if possible I'd probably get a slightly nicer case just because. That case is popular and would do the job but since you now have like $250 to spare... $100 monitor, $70 keyboard, $30 mouse or trackball if you're god-tier... you'd still have enough to add a $100 case that'd last multiple builds instead of some budget-build $50 thing. If you can't find a better one on Best Buys garbage site then don't sweat it.
>>
>>52683267
why the fuck would you spend so much on a pc and then buy a $100 monitor?
>>
>>52683194
>>52683267

don't know if I'm the weird one here, but idk why we're putting in a GPU at all if all OP is doing having fap fests to Artificial Academy 2. That $150 could go into something else like a nicer heatsink or a really fucking killer keyboard, or just a fleshlight to aid in his AA2 fap fests.
>>52683290
am I the only one that thinks this build really isn't that impressive? like a 4790K is great, but a 950 is just the bang for buck GPU, nothing crazy about it. everything about this build is solid, but not crazy or noteworthy. p depressing to think what $1200 gets you these days family
>>
>>52683194
I'd take out the GPU and put in some nice headphones or speakers desu fuck video.
>>
>>52683323
i actually agree with this. if artificial academy is the most intensive shit OP is playing, just use the integrated graphics. even that 950 will be major overkill. artificial academy runs on the integrated graphics of my old sandybridge 2520m laptop at almost full settings 1080p with high frames. no fucking doubt a 4790k with even better integrated graphics will be perfectly good at max settings. The GTX 950 will be outdated by the end of this damn year when Pascal and Polaris are released. This is a big year for graphics cards because of huge requirements by VR. I wouldn't advise ANYONE buy a GPU until Polaris and Pascal GPU's are out. Fuck OP, you'd be fine with even a 4690K. I almost guarantee you'll see no difference in performance unless you're actually utilizing the HT on that 4790K. I always say to get the i7 to be safe, though. Developers might pull their heads out of their asses and optimize their applications in the future. You want to get the best CPU possible. GPU is an afterthought unless you're mostly playing games like a faggot.
