Sorry for this but I am trying to do this, I have 5.1 on a moto e LTE I got from Verizon ($10)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e-2015/general/how-to-verizon-moto-e-2015-gsm-network-t3098953
Got adb working on the command prompt but it doesn't detect a device, I installed drivers from Motorola's site and still nothing
If it was just 5.0 I could download the network app but since it's 5.1 I have go through cmd
If I installed drivers from motos site and the phone isn't being detected then what else could it be?
Phone is already on USB debugging mode

Honor 5X only has a snapdragon 615 in it. While not the bottom of the barrel, it performs worse than an 800 series SoC like the 808 found in the Nexus 5X. I know the Moto X Play has issues with lag and it also has the 615 processor, but that phone gets pretty good battery life.

Also, I'm not sure whether they will even let you unlock the bootloader on the Honor, much less whether CM will support the device. I say go for the Nexus.

If not 808 and 810, then what? 605 is worse than 808, 801 is 32bit.
>>
>>52674509
801 here with 2gb ram. phone flies.

for 64-bit to work, you need 4gb ram minimum. there is no android 64-bit software yet. and do you even need it? remember, it's a phone we are talking about.
>>
>>52674615
Memory size support is not the only benefit of 64bit.
Most android software is compiled for the JVM and thus is neither 32 or 64bit ARM.
64bit is more future-proof.
We aren't talking about phones really. we're talking about small, portable computers with a GSM modem.

Anyone own the LG v10? How about any G4 owners? I have the G stylo right now on T-Mobile and while the phone is decent, the camera is terrible. The v10 is really attractive and I love the rubberized backing. Any good phablets out there I'm unaware of?

Additional storage is a must, removable battery a plus.
>>
>>52674699
6P if you like phablets. Nexus master race.
>>
>>52674939
The V4 apparently has a God tier camera. But it's screen has a 8000K color temperature, meaning it's a bit bluish, so your photos won't look great on the screen. But I'm considering it.

Others you might be interested in:
Moto X Pure Edition aka Moto X Style.
Droid Turbo 2
Xperia Z5 and X3+
ZTE Axon Elite
HTC One M9

>>
>>52674699
If you don't want to root your phone, you should only be considering nexus devices or the moto x.

If you plan on rooting then here's the order of what phone to buy:

Nexus 6p > Moto X Pure > G4 = V10 > Nexus 5x
>>

All smartphones are ugly.

What is wrong with the m9?
>>52675215
Why do you consider Pure better than G4 when they have almost the same specs, but G4 is a bit smaller (giving it higher PPI), has a better camera and removable battery?
>>
>>52675250

>>52675303
>All smartphones are ugly.
Tell that to the Lumia 920, the Z5, the 6P and the iPhone.
>>
>>52675303
For the sole reason that the x pure is cheaper, and moto features are god tier.

I like the larger screen, and a ppi difference of that much isn't noticeable. It is unfortunate that the moto x doesn't have a removable battery, but that's not a feature I've ever had to use.

>>52675337
>Tell that to the Lumia 920, the Z5, the 6p and the iPhone

I was about to explain how the moto x is one of the best looking phones, but if you're taste is this shit there's no way I can logically explain anything to you.
>>
>>52675337
I'd agree with Lumia and Z5, but 6P and iPhones are ugly. I like sharp corners, don't like round ones.

Anyway, your arguments are shit.
>>
Has anyone here imported a Japanese phone?

How did it go?
>>
>>52675399
Hmm, in my country, G4 is 50$ cheaper than Pure 16GB.
>moto features are god tier
What do you mean by moto features?
>I like the larger screen, and a ppi difference of that much isn't noticeable.
Well a difference in screen size that small doesn't give much more comfort while making it harder to put the phone in a pocket.
>>
>>52675499
The moto features I use are moto display, double twist for camera, and attentive display.

Moto display is basically ambient display on steroids. It works much better and also lets you control music from it.
Attentive display makes it so that the screen won't dim if it detects you looking at it. I've only tried out a feature like this on Samsung phones, but it works much better on the moto x.

Double twist for camera is pretty self explanatory; you double twist the phone and it launcher the camera.

Your last point is valid, but I'm a pretty big person in general so I feel quite comfortable using a 5.7" phone. It fits in all my pants without issue, and I can use it with one hand.

Typical butthurt fagdroids. I list plenty of reasons the phone is shit. There's literally no argument for the Moto X being a good looking phone. It's a cheap midrange consumer device plain and simple. I wouldn't expect anyone on /g/ to have any type of decent taste anyway though.
>>
>>52678631
4 out of five of your "complaints" are completely subjective. If you get the phone in black the sensors don't even show up. The speakers literally take up less space and look cleaner than speakers on any other phone. Battery life is fine on the phone. On a good day I can get around 4 hours of SoT and still get home with 60% battery (add in some apps like greenify, powernap, and nap time and battery can get even better).

>It's just not that attractive
You are literally exposing your autism right here, faggot. The Moto X is the most aesthetically customizable device on the market. Just because you have shit taste in design and can't make it look good doesn't mean the phone looks bad.

>Underwhelming camera
This one is kind of true, but only if you compare it to phones $100+ more than it. If you compare it to phones in the same price range the camera will be more or less equivalent.

And no, I'm not just a gay fanboy, you're arguments were just complete shit. Some legitimate flaws with the phone would be:

>Non removable battery
>LCD screen
>no fingerprint scanner
>>
>>52678386
Doesn't it have expandable storage?
>>
>>52678867
>most aesthetically pleasing customizable device on the market
Right because there's...one? I'm not saying it's ugly, but to say it's beautiful is just plain wrong. The speakers on the 6P look cleaner, and battery life is average at best. I'm sorry the phone isn't as good as you think it is but that doesn't mean you can just throw out bullshit.
>>
>>52678894
I think we're saying the same thing but in different words. It's a great phone, but obviously if you compare it to devices that are in a different price range they're going to be better. For the price however, it provides a very good value.

And I said aesthetically customizable, not pleasing. Meaning you can pick and choose how you want it to look. It looks as good or bad as the buyer makes it. Battery once again is pretty similar to other phones in the same price range. It will easily last through a day of use, and if you're a light user you can make it through two days comfortably.

I am comparing my experience with the moto x to a g4 by the way, both of which I have used quite a bit.
>>
>>52678877
No, its unibody shit
>>
I just got a new one m9 through HTC's replacement program. It's the exact same phone and as far as I can figure out I have it configured exactly as my one before, but now my battery life is shit.

My previous one could easily last through two days on a full charge, but now this one can barely get through one. Anybody else have a similar experience? It's really getting me down.

I probably got a bad one, but the bottom 30% of the screen is unresponsive, thus, I cannot hit the space bar when typing among other things which renders the phone pretty unusable for me. Plus, it takes about 2 minutes to start, no joke mate, and I don't have a lot of apps. One Plus 2 also has a problem with some parts of the screen being unresponsive, I found out after looking up my issue in the OnePlus forum
>>
>>52676022
i'd say no. mine has the bottom 30% of the screen unresponsive. Bought it last July
>>
>>52673611
mate, you have to download the Google USB Driver. then:
Device Manager, Right click on your phone, update driver, look for driver and install it. ADB will recognize it instantly. If you download the Google USB Driver from the SDK Manager, which I recommend by the way, it should be stored somewhere in AppData/android/google/driver/

good luck m80

I have a Galaxy S5 and every time I try to upgrade to a 2015 flagship I end up hating it and selling it. Manage to recoup most of my losses, at least.

My latest try was a Nexus 6P, and this is a beautiful phone. Feels good in the hand, buttery smooth, camera is amazing, stock android, awesome screen. But it's too big and I feel like I need to hold it like a baby, and it honestly bothers me that I couldn't replace the screen or battery if they ever started to fail (apparently it's very hard to almost impossible to disassemble a 6P)

My old beat up S5 does everything I need it to do, I'm used to it, and most importantly I don't need to give a fuck about it. So I find myself keeping on going back to the S5, every time.

Maybe when Nokia starts coming out with some nice midrange phones there'll be something that interests me.

I think he's referring to how the OPX lacks Band 12/17 which are important for people using T-Mobile and AT&T respectively. Unless you work in an office in a large city, it probably won't matter to you, since you'll still get Band 4. Band 12/17 does help with penetrating buildings better, so you may see reduced coverage or a drop down to HSPA+ inside large buildings.

It's something to consider, but not a dealbreaker per se. I haven't been able to figure out where exactly 700MHz/Band17 has been rolled out on my carrier due to lack of data for my carrier on most LTE Frequency Checker apps, but I'd guess that the OPX would be not bad. Hell, if I had Telus/Bell instead of Rogers there'd be little to no reason to not go for the OPX since the vast majority of their towers in my area use Band 4.

>>52680977
How much is the G4 to you? Price varies a lot by region, but there are lots of options usually. The thing with the G4 is that it has a removable battery and SD card slot when many phones do not these days.

>>52686365
OnePlus X is definitely an option if you're in Europe.

>>52686444 (nice)

Performance is pretty great for me. Some hiccups here and there (like an additional half second compared to usual when unlocking the phone), but generally very consistent and speedy. You can decrypt the storage for even better performance, but I prefer the security of encryption over any minor performance gains.

>>52686622
While the 1440p screen might cause some issues, 1.5 hours SoT is ridiculously low. You might consider what you have on the device, apps like Facebook and Snapchat will drain your battery like nobody's business. Facebook is usable inside a browser, and can be pinned to your homescreen and you can even get Chrome notifications. No such option exists for Snapchat, it's kind of a necessary evil for your low resolution lewd pics from qts.

Your best bet is to meet them at your carrier's store when doing the transaction. That way you can verify with them that the phone isn't stolen and blacklisted. Beware of any deal that is "too good to be true" because it is usually stolen, and the IMEI is likely blacklisted. Basically it means the phone is only useful as an iPod Touch.

>>52686838
kek, can't disagree with this. A Samsung Nexus would be buyworthy, but I wouldn't buy a phone running touchwiz. You probably can't even unlock the bootloader and install CM either, due to the Exynos chip inside (which usually have poor dev support) and carrier restrictions.

>>
>>52686320
Efficiency? As in Screen on Time and battery longevity? I'm not sure because I went for the 5X instead of the 6P, but doze makes your battery last much, much longer. It can be tweaked to be more aggressive with root and Doze Settings, so you see even more savings. Your best bet is to check the battery life thread on XDA for real life impressions.

Of course, as with any phone, the SoT and longevity you get will be heavily dependent on how you use the phone and what apps you install. If you have Snapchat and Facebook installed you'll get much less battery life than if you don't have these apps. If you go full retard and install an antivirus prepare your anus for even worse battery performance.
>>
>>52689193
Yes, I meant the SD810s power consumption. I am specifically referring to the 6Ps AnandTech review. I don't however use Facebook or Snapchat and the likes of these optimized apps. I am torn between buying a 6P now, or buy a cheap used phone for the time being and waiting for the next Nexus.

the 1gb ram model worth it on sale for $100? Or is the ram/storage worth the extra $100 for the average low end user? Mostly just youtube, clover, and facebook (inb4 botnet jewbook). IDC about high demand programs like games, I have a gaming desktop.
>>
>>52692742

>>
>>52692742
Do not get a 1 gb ram phone. Even if you're strapped on cash if you gimp out on the ram it'll end up causing you more harm than benefit. The nexus 5x has 2gb and even that is said to lag when multitasking, so don't go any lower than 2 if you can.
>>
>>52692939

>>
>>52693005
If you're ok with poor performance (don't expect to be able to play games and get good performance in them) then go for the 1gb.
My old phone only had 1gb ram, and it definitely did lag on opening apps and basically everything, but it was also usable. Assuming the moto g has better ram management, then I guess it's alright to go with it.

I just want to make sure you know what to expect if you get it.
>>

I think the low specs is half of the reason it runs Stock Android, to help debloat the cpu and ram.

My current phone is a lumia 635 and I'm switching mainly because I ended up not liking Windows phone (no support on ANYTHING, apps 1 year + out of date), no good 4chan app, no good web browser, no native google apps, ect.

Also I'm not sure I even CAN get the 2gb model. My carrier is Virgin Mobile (US prepaid) and they don't support unlocked phones. You need to but their carrier locked phones.

It's either the Moto G at $99, the HTC Desire 626 at $130, or the Galaxy j5 (i dislike touchwizz a LOT) .

About to renew my contract and not sure what phone to pick.

Not sure what to choose between the following phones so far:

iphone 6s Plus (mostly cause of the OIS and better battery than the 6s)

LG V10 (mite b cool, but battery life seems rather poor, but has a microSD slot)

Galaxy S6 Plus (seems to have the best performance from all the android phones and camera, and battery life but, but no SD slot)

There's no note5 available here, so I can't go for that. The Z5 is also an option, but I've had such a bad experience with the Z1C that I'd rather not go for another sony phone. (the camera was really piss poor, so bad that I actually went back to my galaxy S3).
>>
>>52693362
Please don't go with the samshit. The memory management on touchwizz is absolute cancer and you won't be able to keep more than five apps in memory at once.
I'd say the G4 is the best choice, but if you're picking between the V10 and Z5 I'd go with the V10.

Pros of Moto G:
>Flashlight shaker motion, no app needed. Same with camera.
>Water resistant, youtube videos with it submerged in a bowl of water. This could literally save your phone and data from an accident.
>Good build quality overall. Solid, rugged.
>13 mp camera
>better battery life
>stock android. like, actual, bloat-free stock android man. It even gets the 6.0 update

Pros of 626s
>500 mb more ram
>better GPU than the MotoG
>Htc sense is one of the nicer maker-specific android flavors. Includes a news feed feature called Blinkfeed which shows you news, facebook posts, ect. Also good power saving options in Sense.
>Looks nice if you care about that.
>>
>>52693449

What about the iPhone though? It seems like it's the best choice by far considering the battery life benchmarks. The V10 is rated very poorly on GSMarena.
>>
>>52693505
It really depends on what you're looking for in a phone. If you want a phone that will work out of the box, but won't let you customize anything then go with the iPhone. If you like tweaking and playing around with your device then don't even consider the iPhone.
>>
>>52693538

To be honest, ever since the desire HD I've been rocking an android device and tweaking it but ever since I got older I really don't care about looks and tweaks.

The only thing that I would honestly like on an iPhone is webM support which it seems to lack, but the battery time camera and resale value seem to make up for it (considering my S5 is worth less than a 5s).

Guess I'll be going for a 6S plus this time around.
>>

>>52693690
I'm the anon from >>52693005, >>52693195 , and >>52693462

I'm going to go with the MotoG myself because the Desire626s does not have great build construction.

Also, stock Android is a huge selling point when most phones are locked down with shitty OEM skins. There's always rooting / Cyanogenmod but some people actually use their warranties.

If you do ANY mobile gaming though the desire beats it with more ram and a better GPU. The more ram also allows better multi-tasking, and will run better on any other intensive web pages or demanding apps.

But I am a low end user and do not game, so for me, personally, I like the Moto at the price.

If neither of them were on sale and both were at MSRP the desire would be a better purchase.

Thinking about getting a new phone because I dropped my LG G2 today and the screen cracked, rendering the top half of the phone unusable. I can still send text/call, so waiting a bit isn't a problem.

I'm on Verizon, budget isn't a huge issue. I'd prefer an Android phone. My priorities are:

1) Battery life
2) Sound quality
3) Camera quality

Basically all I do on my phone is text, make calls, and take shitty nature photos. I play mobage sometimes, but not real often.

I was thinking about waiting for March for the Blackberry Priv or maybe getting a DROID Turbo 2. Of course, I could just buy the $60 in replacement parts and fix my phone; the LG G2 isn't too bad of a phone.

Thanks for the advice, anon. I appreciate it!

Apparently my phone has insurance or something, so I need to look into what that entails. I supposed getting the screen replaced for free is cheaper than a new phone and the new phones will still be there when my phone permanently dies/the insurance ends.

>>52696443

I'm not well-versed with mobile phone technology, but my hunch is that if it isn't a software issue, it might be a hardware issue related to the antenna or modem. I'm not certain, but I think LTE is in a different frequency band and thus requires a different antenna or something, so if that broke (or if there's a single antenna and it somehow broke in a way to prevent sending/receiving on LTE [don't crucify me, I didn't take an RF course]), that might be the cause of the issue.

Do you get a 3G signal? If so, do you get data over that?

IIRC, text and calls can both operate over non-data bands, so my suggested hardware issue would explain why they still work.

Or maybe something is wrong with your SIM card, and it stopped saying you're allowed to use data?

I'll stop theorycrafting because I'm not an expert by any means, but I feel like maybe you should ask your provider to check to see if it might be a hardware and maybe try to get a repair/replacement.

If you hate bloat, get something with Stock Android. You have what's considered just below flagship level budget, so you should be able to get some NICE hardware.

Smashed my nexus 5 and g2 recently, is a moto x pure worth considering?.

What are my options coming from a g2 and nexus 5. I want to stay android.

I had the Pure, I just replaced it with a ZUK Z1 after 3 months because of the terrible battery life, and the lack of double tap to wake. 2K screens are a meme.

A full day of using my phone at work for maps, bluetooth audio in the car, and some light web browsing would drop my battery to about 20% by the end of the day. The Z1 still has 70% left after a similar full day of use, and it cost me half as much as the Pure did.

Which one, members of my family?

Is a Z3 really worth this price difference?

Also is it easy to install some other rom on the G2? I never did this before but I've heard of bricking and whatnot. Seems scary, familia.

I also forgot to include the second gen Moto X on the collage, it costs 1.199 banana coins. I don't like its looks though and I heard the battery life is kinda meh.

Also is multitasking even good on these phones? I wish I could have a phone that didn't reload stuff on the background constantly.

My second gen moto g died so I'm stuck with a craptastic lumia 720 that I can't stand anymore. I used my phone mostly for 4chins, whattsapp, kikebook messenger, internet banking, youtube, web browsing, you know, the usual stuff.

Has anyone experience being unable to connect to their mobile network?

I can still connect to wifi, call and text, everything is as usual but I can't get 3/4G or use location services at all.

Is my phone kill? Or would it be my carrier being fucking retards?

Check that mobile data is enabled, there's two or three places you can toggle it separately. Make sure you have the proper APN selected, and that you're connected to your own carrier's network

Like I noted at >>52696960 , live in the US, anything up to $450, LTE (not a deal breaker but still nice), decent camera and battery, minimal amount of bloatware. Forgot to add unlocked as well. Currently looking at the Nexus 6P and Moto X Pure. Any suggestions?
