Because everything else I have is already pretty much endgame but I got a chronic case of upgraditus.
The dac I have now was cheap as hell and is better than the more expensive dac's I had in the past. But I still got the itch. Really only looking at maybe a Benchmark 1/2 or the Yggdrasil. And that's just to A/B with what I have.

XB700 are discontinued so I was surprised it was there being sold. The old Extra Bass Sony lineup were decent as value basshead cans, but if you don't want bassy the Superluxes are your best bet.

Normally you would connect the headset/headphones to the 3.5mm jack in the controller, the problem is that since the controller is wireless, I don't know if there's a loss in audio quality. The console itself has optical out and USB ports.
I think the most simple way would be to buy a good pair of headphones and a zalman clip mic and use them with an adapter to the controller, but again I don't know if $200usd cans would sound like crap because it's a wireless cintroller

The earpads on mine, I can only compare to Waxed Cardboard. And they sat ON my ears as opposed to over them. Which I hate.

No audible difference between a higher bitrate mp3 encode with a relatively modern LAME encoder and FLAC so no wonder.

"Cheap IEM" and "expensive CIEM" aren't singular things. Cheap IEM could sound better than an expensive CIEM or it could not. Most cheap IEMs are bass monsters and so are some CIEMs. There is a high possibility that a cheap dynamic IEM and an expensive multi BA-driver CIEM sound at least different because their frequency response is not the same so you might want to listen again. Whichever is better is another question.

iPod Classic has an amplified headphone output and it obviously is also a DAC. "DAC/AMP" is just as meaningless as a "cheap IEM". There are all kinds of amplifiers and DACs and a lot of them are completely transparent in listening. Depending on the model of the LCD3s, they can be really easy to drive(especially Fazors) so you really might not need more than the iPod Classic to drive them. It's not a surprise if there is no difference.

They lowered the 6kHz resonance but there's still the same recessed upper midrange and it's still peaky past 6kHz. A step to the right direction but tonality is really similar overall. Haven't seen measurements of the UM MIracles, Earbuds are good buds but meh overall. Something tells me that if the UM Miracles are "slightly better", those are trash for the price. You could get a lot better pair of IEMs without paying out the ass for them.

The first question is why did you bother getting the gear?
If I remember the Miracle properly, it was somewhat V-shaped. Better or anything is a personal call, but it is definitely going to be different.
Also, a lot of those you mentioned are not worthwhile things. DSD is actually much worse at doing things than PCM, in ways that are very easy to demonstrate.
Amps and DACs are about proper loudness, low distortion, and low noise. It's a lot more straightforward than what you might hear otherwise in audio circles, and it is somewhat easy to get right.

Memes mostly. K612 is fine and all. It has peakier, less even response and is brighter than the HD 558. It's also a lot harder headphone to drive. Those specifications of your motherboard tell nothing useful about its power output so you might need to get an amplifier for the K612.
Veil is just perceived frequency response and HD 558 is really not a veiled headphone - at least not to my ears. If the slight warmth caused by the elevated midbass makes them "veiled" to you, just EQ it down. Overall the response of those headphones is excellent and you are hard pressed to find a more accurate diffuse field response from headphones near that price.
Build is cheap and light plastic. The part where the headband slides into the earcups is the weak part and might show some vertical cracking over time. The downright brittle plastic used in HD 555 and HD 595 is gone but it's still not exactly a headphone that stands abuse.

Yeah absolutely nothing. Even if I manage to find the spec sheet for the codec (unlikely, they tend to be behind a paywall), I can't tell what the motherboard manufacturer has stuffed between it and the output. This is is a big problem when buying anything audio; specs just aren't there, they are inconclusive or falsified. Very few bother to measure and publish the measurements of amplifiers and DACs and nobody ever does that for yearly rehashed motherboards.
Don't bother the amplifier and DA-converter for now. Just get the headphones. I'm not here to tell you what to buy but I gave you my opinion and some information about those models.

It's really hard to overstate how full of shit audiophile forums generally are without saying something absurd like "sound quality does not exist". There are better money sinks than headphone audio, maybe just audio in general.
It's done, I'm over them, I've had HD518's for 3 years now and decided to upgrade, they still sound perfect but they're worn out like fuck and I have a little bit of money to treat myself.
I've had a look at the Philips Fidelio X2 which is interesting, I've been eyeing up some beyerdynamic stuff too.
My budget is £100-175 and it will only really be used on my computer, it has to be open ear and comfortable for 5 hour + sessions, I normally prefer a bit more bass than treble.
