A little while ago I flashed a nightly CyanogenMod 13 build on my HTC one M8. I am happy with the ROM, but during the process my root access was broken. Unfortunately the HTC one M8 is not compatible with common One Click Root software, and when I rooted it in the first place I had to do it manually. I can still use my custom recovery (CWM) but no apps that require root access. Also, If one of you manages to get my phone rooted and I lose all of my data, will I still be able to keep root access if I restore from backup?

I have spent fucking hours searching for a solution and you, /g/ are my last resort. I didn't want to have to do this, but I am. If you see this thread as simply 'Another Newfag who things /g/ is tech support', so be it, but at least I have had a good look around for an answer.

>tl;dr I need my CyanogenMod 13 HTC one M8 rooted

Enjoy your botnet.
>>
>>52664645
but I thought Android was free and great, if it's open source doesn't it mean you can do anything with it? just write your own code to gain root access!

Since I'm not a neet, I don't have time for autism so iOS just werks for me ;^)
>>
Isnt root access an option you can toggle in developer options in CM13?

Tap the build number a few times, get dev mode on, turn root access on if its there
>>
>>52664645
If you managed to install CyanogenMod it means ur phone is already rooted.
Enable Developer Options and then scroll down and find "Enable root access"
>>
>>52664684
>>52664695
This didn't work. When I tried to flash the ROM again, there was a text in my recovery saying root access is missing or broken. It was rooted previously. Selecting "allow root access" in the settings didn't work
>>
>>52664681
Get out.
>>
>>52664717
What Recovery image are you using?
>>
>>52664737
ClockWorkMod (CWM)
It is the recommended recovery for using Cyanogenmod (supposedly)
>>
>>52664737
Nevermind I see you're using CWM. When you boot into it click "restart now" and an option should come up that asks you if you want to fix root. Try that.
>>
>>52664717
Through recovery flash SuperSU
>>
>>52664717
The message that says "root access possibly lost" in ClockworkMod is a known bug, it also says that in my phone. It doesn't actually mean anything, I still have root. It was as simple as going to developer options and enabling root from there. What happens when you try to enable root from developer options?
>>
>>52664751
Tried it, nothing happened.

It might also be worth mentioning that everytime I try to manually install SuperSU zip file the phone goes into bootloop
Bootloop is where the phone reboots, but gets stuck on the logo screen (for all eternity)
>>
>>52664794
What happens when you try to enable it through Developer options?
>>
>>52664791
see >>52664717
I don't have root access, according to Root Checker or any other app that need root access.

>>52664768
see>>52664794
>>
>>52664812

This.

Also, why not manually flash it with odin?
>>
>>52664828
What is this Odin you speak of?

>This.
It didn't work
>>
>>52664818
I mean, nothing happened? Are you sure? Because that message ClockworkMod gives you is bullshit. Find a real app that asks for root, like Greenify. What message does it show when you try to enable root features? It should give you some sort of a toast message.
>>
>>52664839

>it didn't work

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Stop asking for help and giving vague answers. As for Odin, google it yourself. It's your problem why the hell would you expect people to hold your hand through everything.
>>
>>52664866
Odin is only for Samsung phones. OP, tell us what happens when you enable it through Developer options and what message do you get when an app requests root privileges?
>>
>>52664884

I JUST TOLD YOU: NOTHING HAPPENS.
>>
>>52664866
>why the hell would you expect people to hold your hand through everything.
fuck you

Anyway, I enable developer options, then proceed to select the option to allow root access for Apps and Adb. When I then attempt to use an app that requires root access, it doesn't work.

Installing SuperSU via custom recovery forces my phone into bootloop. Downloading SuperSU from the play store works, but when I try to use it I get the message "No superSU binaries found" or some shit
>>
>>52664893
Okay, fuck you then you tech illiterate prick. I'm not helping you anymore
>>
>>52664907

Fuck you, you arrogant son of a bitch. You were too damn cocky to do a proper backup before flashing a FUCKING NIGHTLY. Now your shit is fucked and you want a bunch of weebs from the internet to hold your hold.
>>
>>52664650
you going to post this in every fucking thread?
>>
>>52664884
No message when enabling root access in Dev options. The message varies from App to app. SixAxis controller says "check root privelages"
SuperSU says "no binaries" (I searched for an answer to this to no avail)

this >>52664893 is not me
>>
>>52664645
Is the all in one tool not on the XDA forums anymore?
>>
>>52664931
It wasn't me

>>52664893
Fuck you asshole, this is my one chance for /g/ to help me
>>
>>52664968

Fuck you, faggot. I hope you brick your damn phone. Every flashing guide in the world always has a giant warning to BACK UP YOUR FUCKING STOCK ROM BEFORE YOU FLASH.
>>
>>52664951
nope. Downloaded a toolkit once but It was a virus
>>
>>52664985
This has nothing to do with stock ROM. I wanted to change
>>
>>52664893
OP I had your exact problem same phone and everything.

All I had to do was go into dev mode and activate it from there.
>>
>>52665001
He has already done that apparently.
>>
>>52664988
I've never got a virus.
The file you downloaded came from here?

I'm looking for it myself now, I've been using a stock rooted rom for a long long while now and it's finally getting to bloaty for my liking So I've been due to run through this process again myself
>>
>>52664948
This is strange. Let me get back to you, I'm going to try to disable my root on my phone to see what it says.
>>
>>52665000

You really are a moron. If you backed your shit up before installing an EXPERIMENTAL rom, you could at least have something to work with. Go over to the XDA or Cyanogenmod forums. Have you filed a bug report yet?
>>
>>52665016

Reflash the stock rom. Install a stable cyanogenmod rom. Back up the stable rom and then play around with nightlies.
>>
>running botnetmod

kek
>>
I don't know the answer OP but I can relate with your frustrations
>>
>>52665025
As far as I am concerned, nightly builds are the only CM Roms available for HTC one M8

>>
>>52665128
Any superior alternatives?
>>
>>52665157

God dammit. Stop wasting our time. Report the bug and reflash back to your backup. Fuck.
>>
But really, why isn't it possible to just boot into an OS on a drive like it is on a desktop?
>>
>>52665169
m8 it was your choice to come in here, the only person wasting your time is you. I only want help from those willing to give it.
>>
>>52665186

If you can't access root on that nightly then you have a bug. What do you do with a bug? Report it. We can't fix the bug, that's what the CM developers do. Reflash to your last backup and stop crying.
>>
Did you try to turn it off and on again?
>>
>>52664645
What version of Super SU have you tried?

Without reading and literally just going through the forums and searching things like "Root" "Recovery" and "tool" in the device specific section.. Here are some things I'd look through;

and I've personally used this in the past but it was a long time ago, I have no idea if it's relevant anymore....

>>
>>52665275
Try SuperSu 2.66.
>>
>>52664645

Skimmed the thread and didn't see this. Have you tried just downloading the Clokworkmod superuser apk from the play store or the one from Chainfire?

Will the superuser app let you remove the root files? Try remove it completely with the app and downloading the one made by Chainfire.

This thread is on its way out now, but thanks for the help /g/, you far surpassed my expectations
>>
>>52665586
I'm the one who posted all the links, and I'm not a native to this board, I just happened to be bored and lurking.

Don't thank these endlessly bickering shitposting fucks.
>>
>>52665624
Ok I'll thank you especially. Although I did get a surprising amount of helpful input (and an unsurprising amount of bullshit)
>>
>>52665658
One maybe two other people opened this thread with the intention of helping I'm sure.

Though honestly all the information wasn't too hard to search out. Next time, when in doubt, Google harder, you'll usually get farther than asking here.
>>
Flash twrp as recovery, Cwm is old and shit, its probably why you can't root
>>
>>52665658

So did you fix it or not?
>>
>>52665709

Also, why wouldn't you just save your pertinent files and reflash the CM rom to reset the root shit?
>>
>>52664645
>>52664818
>>52664743
Why the fuck are you using CWM?
That shit is old and unsupported, find a better recovery, i dont know if twrp supports your phone but if it does use that.

Also you either are facing some major bug in CM or youre using some meme self compile rom by a poo in the loo individual.

HOLY FUCK IT WORKED I DONT KNOW WHICH ONE OF YOU ASSHOLES IT WAS BUT MY PHONE IS NOW ROOTED THANK YOU /G/
