Because Linux will never kill Windows or OSX. I used Linux for a few years, starting with Jewbuntu and eventually to a heavily riced Arch/i3wm. I thought using an obscure OS for neckbeards made me cool, and there were a few features I wish Windows had. For example, GNU is a hell of a lot less awkward to use than Powershell and its excessively long cmdlet names, as far as the command line goes. I liked the fact that it didn't use so much RAM.
And then I realized Cygwin exists, and that cucking myself to a barely-supported platform just so I could feel l33t by using half-assed workarounds to fix the horrendous video tearing and waste half my RAM by never using it no matter what I did was pointless.

I don't really care about politics inside software, i just think Open Source is a great development model.

I agree that Linux is great as a general purpose OS. But I find that if you intend to run any kind of specialized programs or games of any kind, you end up with a lot of trial and error, and eventually you just have to give up and use Windows. I'm not saying that I particularly like Windows, but Linux just doesn't have enough support to be an option for most people.
