>>

Less than 2160p.
>>
>>52658256
And also far more practical, supported and cheap for years. 1440p doesn't require scaling and doesn't look much different from 4k
>>
>>52658293
It looks 720p different you ming.
>>
>>52658293
Several years ago, people said 1080p would be impractical.
4K will get cheaper over time, like every new technology does. Early adopters will just have to pay a lot.

Have you tried both, because I have and would rather stick to 1440p. No desktop has good scaling, and you can't run games at 4k.
>>
>>52658377
Not yet, but let's not have a chicken and egg argument.
>>
>>52658344
Exactly, it's unnecessary and unpractical for now. 1440p will be optimal for at least a year or 2
>>
>>52658293
>lower resolution
>more practical
>better scaling

Where are you pulling these incorrect arguments from?
>>
>>52658387
I'm not saying it won't be good later, I just wouldn't recommend for somebody buying now
>>
>>52658377
Use a bigger monitor, enjoy the vastly greater amount of information you see at a glance in day-to-day work and run your games at a lower resolution.
>>
>>52658075
Well memed, I however enjoy my 4k IPS monitor. It is fucking great for Photoshop and visual Studio. So much space. Stopped using my 2nd monitor because there is so much space.
>>
>>52658456
Thats stupid bitch thats why you get a 1440p monitor bc no graphics card is good enough except for the new nvidia titan xYz 32gb gddr5x graphical card
>>
>>52658503
Not everyone exclusively uses their computers for gayman.
>>
>>52658429
From experience. Pixeld at 4k are so small you need to scale UI up, and especially on Windows there's plenty of programs and elements that scale badly or not at all. This is the fault of desktop OSes, but it's a thing

I also had problems with nvidia drivers early on, couldn't get 60fps
>>
>>52658456
This is a good point, but I feel 27" for me is enough. My 4k was 40" and a bit big

Speaking about TVs. You guys think it's worth to get a 4K TV? This graph tells be 4K is absurdly stupid for TVs:

http://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/size-to-distance-relationship
>>
>>52658591

Right now if I were to buy a new TV, it would be a 55" or larger 4K tv. You can already get movies in 4k, nobody cannot deny the wicked sharpness of the added resolution.
>>
>>52658685
But you need to be less than a meter from the TV to see the benefits.
>>
>>52658410
>it's unnecessary
Well if richfags don't pick it up now, then it won't become common and cheep enough for us to buy reasonably.

Any technology that isn't mainstream is shit on by /g/ because most people here are students and NEETs who, despite having a passion for technology, can't actually afford anything new.

It's a sour grapes situation, but it's particularly strange because people come to a board dedicated to technology and then act like luddites who hate anything modern that's out of their price range. Obviously anyone with half a brain would realize that 4K has significant benefits, especially in desktop space where people are using 1080p monitors with insanely low DPI still, but shitting on something because you can't afford it lets people feel more comfortable about what they have.

Back in 2007 you could get a 1080p TV. The PS3 rarely played games over 720p, DVD's were still selling well more than Blu-Ray, HD broadcasts over 720p didn't exist and even then a lot of content was being upscaled from SD.
In 2016 you can get a 4K TV. The PS4 rarely plays games over 720p, Blu-Rays are disappearing due to popularity of comparatively low quality internet streaming and HD broadcasts over 720p are still rare.

Why should a normie care about higher resolution when there's no high res content for them? They don't get it because they have no use for it, therefore it's all meme tech to them.

It was the coolest shit when it was first released. Local news stations were at their local Best Buys showing them off. Then nothing. The technology was dead in the water all because the fucking television studios didn't make any content. I've still got the 3D copy of Monsters Vs Aliens that came with my tv. Makes me mad tbqh.
>>

>>52659076

3D for cinema is 100% meme. Hell, 3D TVs, even for games, are 100% meme. 3D only works in devices like VR headsets where you get as close as possible to an actual 3D image by displaying a single image for each eye.

Bonus is that any 3D (in the sense of using polygons instead of sprites) game works with a 3D display by tweaking the render a bit. It's the same reason 3D (again, polygon-based) games work flawlessly on 4K and higher displays by just increasing the render resolution.

Movies and such need to actually be created for 3D or with a high resolution from the get go. You can't retroactively increase the detail or dimensions like with games.

We have only the Jewish ISPs and telecarriers to blame. Fuckers just pocket money rather than put into upgrading the infrastructure to match other nations. It's fucking sad that the United States, the country that pretty much created everything for the internet, has 3rd world internet speeds.
