Have the memes gone too far? Am I seriously gonna potentially ruin a perfectly good keyboard right now?
>>
What keyboards came with PBT keycaps by default?
I don't want to spend an extra 50 bucks to have something nice to touch except if keycaps + keyboard si cheaper than a keyboard w/ PBT keycaps out of the box (which I doubt)
>>
>>52651763
What keyboard is that?
>>
>>52652079
>Am I seriously gonna potentially ruin a perfectly good keyboard right now?
The first time I tried desoldering a switch, I ended up fucking up the trace, now my Z key doesn't work anymore and I don't know how to fix it. I don't get what happened, it worked perfectly on the practice board every time.
But no, you won't ruin the WHOLE board. They say it's not very hard maybe you have to be not an idiot to get it to work, I don't know.
>>
>>52652121
Just jump the trace. Put a piece of wire a few mm from the scratch in the trace, then another either near the end of the trace or near the other end of the scratch, it's a simple fix.
People have different methods for where they put the end of the wire, but it really genuinely doesn't matter, as long as you jump the scratch.
>>
How can it be cheaper to buy and harvest switches of new boards than to order say 100 switches?!
>>
Do reasonably priced keycaps exist or is everything marked up because merchants realized the reddit crowd pays 500 bucks for a single key?

>>
>>52652288
sadly there's not a mx green board in the whole land to find it seems.

Might go with a blue for fun. I've never had a blue, only kahli blue
>>
>>52652249
Buying new boards? It probably won't be. It can be cheaper if you pick up cheap second hand boards. It also depends on the switch and its availability. You can also pick up a fullsized keyboard for, say, $60, get 104 switches, then sell the case and PCB for like $20.
>>
>>52652313
w2c a second hand board with a reasonable price that would not be covered with third party cum?
>>
Where can I get miami keycaps m80s
>>
>>52652313
But that's the thing, I can buy a 105 key cherry blue for translated into $58 or kalih (all four colors) for $41

If I were to order 100 cherry switches it would run me $80+ (and that's shipping for "14-22 Business Days") from som American site

>>
>>52653233
I've thought about this. Gaming offers no productive benefit, even though im really good at it and it's a bit of an ego boost (top 0.8% in csgo, global elite, played semi-pro).

But i literally have nothing else to do in my spare time, i go to uni full time already and get bad marks, stopped caring about my grades since i got into a low tier uni.

>>52653310
Blues suck for gaming if you have headphones that don't block out sound from the real world and you want to hear in game
>>
>>52653364
but that's the reason why I'm gonna buy blues. I love the clicky sounds
>>
Are there any wireless mech keyboards? My mouse is wired but I really like to have my keyboard wireless. I need one with arrow keys and numpad, definitely don't need media keys or anything like that
>>
>>52653310
>>52653358
>>52653358
Of course, it's game specific, but the two games i play are csgo and league.

Csgo, you need sharp movement because you're only accurate when your velocity is 0. To set your velocity to 0, you need to quickly strafe in the opposite direction to stop and shoot after moving.

League, you have to combo abilities quickly, and just having sharper reactions with abilities (keyboard actuations) wins or loses skirmishes.

Now, blues are bad, because for the key to reset you have to let it reach the top after you have actuated it (pressed the key down and it's registered a press).

Other switches, like cherry blacks, some reds and razer keyboards (razer blackwidow comes to mind) have much, much, much faster actuations and resets than a cherry MX blue.

tldr; blue switches are bad for competitive games which require fast keyboard presses
>>
Didn't get a response in the last thread, has anyone here used a Matias Mini Quiet Pro before?

but it can't be that bad when compared to your average rubber domes right? I got pic related and still can kick some ass on csgo
>>
>>52653066
Yeah, it seems that way. I got a great deal on it, so I figured 'what the hell?'
>>
>>52653488
I tried my old rubber domes, i find rubber domes are more consistently better but the "possibilities" with a mechanical keyboard will always be better, as in, it'll always be possible to get fast key presses with blue, but the keys actuation is so random that movement and aim are hard to sync.

I'd use rubberdome over blue switches for csgo
>>
>>52653534
well that's some food for thought.
but I can't stand the sound for reds. do they at least feel the same as blues?
>>
>>52653130
There's also a minimum order amount and the minimum order quantity for non-blue switches is much higher so companies have to invest more if they want to provide different kids of switches that may or may not sell.
That's why red cherry boards are going for upwards of $120
>>
>>52653478
Using one right now. The're really good, I can't say how it feels compared to clears but it's just a good keyboard.

The switches are as wobbly as Cherry though.
>>
>>52653563
I've only used razer blackwidow and blues.

Who cares about sound though? You use headphones right?
>>
How do I clean my keyboard to be about as clean as new?

Bought a das keyboard four years ago and haven't cleaned it much since.

I am thinking to remove all the keys and then go at it with an airduster. How do I clean the keys though? They all have a light white layer on all their sides but the tops.

Should I manually clean each key with a rag?
>>
>>52653644
yeah but I once tried my friend's Blackwidow Chroma Tournament and fell in love instantly, I don't know what switches it had though, but it just felt right and clicky.
also I don't always use them for gaming bro

Someone asked about Cherry MX Browns in an office environment. I think it was a follow-up to asking about the IBM Model M.

Here's the deal: it doesn't matter. The difference between, say, a Macbook keyboard key hit and an IBM Modem M seems significant until you place it in relation to other noises in the office environment.

The most irritatingly loud keyboard I ever heard was the one used by my retarded coworker who sat behind me. For whatever reason, he'd stare at the screen for a minute, then hammer out a sentence and BANG he'd hit the enter key like he was trying to incapacitate it. Not to mention all the slamming he did on the spacebar.

Oh, and his creaky fucking chair. I asked him to request a new one in a meeting and he seemed to think I was joking. Every (rand() % 5) minutes he'd reposition himself and CREEEEK. Randomly spaced noises like that are FAR more irritating than the rattatatat of a mechanical keyboard.

I once literally expanded one of the holes in a pcb on my previous keyboard and it wasn't a problem. It looks more like your solder joints are a bit very bad.

You should apply the soldering iron to the metal ring and to the switch contacts. Then you push your solder against the contact and watch it happily melt away and flow nicely on to the pad.
