why do people buy plain green rice ram?

is there ANY mobo that isnt dual channel anymore?

and why the fuck would you buy anything but name brand, Gskill is usually the cheapest for any combo

how the fuck do these people buy non-branded green sticks
>>
What is ECC.
>>
I see non JEDEC DDR3 RAM for like next to nothing on Chinese sites

Shit wont work on Intel but for AMD it usually does and you can get it for less than half the cost.
>>
>>52643894
It can still be cheaper to buy plain, green ram.
Besides, green looks nice.

i just bought some mushkin eco shit because it was cheap as fuck and didn't have a rice as fuck heat spreader on it.

i also don't give a shit about timings since i'm already paring it with some 11/11/11/28 ram of the same timings.

oh and chances are your 'un branded' green sticks are micron or some, ya know, name brand.

mfw i've got a bag full of pic related. what you know bout dat corsair platinum nigga?
>>
Do you mean RAM without shitty armor? How would that qualify as rice?
>>
my green ram was the cheapest at the time when i bought it. plus i dont look at my computer when its on because im not autistic
>>
OP you do realize that most RAM is brands. It's no different than video cards.

just get some cheap samsung or hynix dimms.
>>
>>52643894
Because "heat spreaders" dont do a damn thing
>>
>>52644051

you only use your computer when its off?
>>
i like the non branded green sticks because they don't make me look like a fag
>>
>>52644084
They spread heat.
>>
I bought OC RAM, but never did OC.
It was fucking cheap though
>>
>>52644274
They dont.
They are unnecessary rice for gaymer who dont know shit
>>
>>52644084
>>52644274

they might lower temps by a couple degrees max.

heatsinks are great but they are all about surface area, and the surface area ram heatsinks have are shit compared to a typical cpu or gpu heatsink, so is the typical airflow over the ram.

nobody's ram even gets hot enough to be of concern.
>>
>>52644319

>>

You cant.

Manufacturers probably do this just so they have a product that can be distinguished from other manufacturer's products. Most of the manufacturers just order chips straight from a supplier like hynix, samsung, or micron and stick them on a PCB. If they didn't have some kind of branding on them they'd all look the same and they wouldn't be able to sell "RICERSHIT EXTREME GAYMEN RAM"

Remove the heatspreader from your ricer ram and be amazed.
>>
>>52644274
Do they even need that? I never heard of overheating RAM.
>>

i never implied there was.

Regular DDR probably not. GDDR4/5 can get pretty hot when pushed beyond 1GHz(4GHz effective)

>>

That's not the point
>>
>>52644551

i know right, two long sticks right besides each other.

rubbing up and down at 400 mhz equivalent.

all dem cock gobbles per second.
>>
>>52644531

did you even read the OP's point?
>>
only tangentially related but are there any good green pcb motherboards or is it always the "industrial grade" type?
>>
>>52643894
There's not really anything better about the name brands usually. Chances are they came from the same factory.
The real reason I'd read reviews and such on any RAM kit I was going to order, would be to find out if:
a) It's fake or some China-land knockoff that's just been relabeled.
b) It has a high DOA rate or something like that.

Other than that, RAM of a certain speed is still RAM of that said speed. Unless you need ECC RAM, then ECC RAM is still ECC RAM.
>>
>>52643894
Most prebuilts use cheap chink shit, even expensive "high end" prebuilts will. If you're lucky one might have crucial in it.

Most people buy that shit online and prefer price over performance, so cheap chink ram for 15$ will work for them.

Also buying gamer shit is stupid, just get the best ram for the cheapest price. I bet some of you fags buy those silly "gamer" edition cans of dust off.
>>
>>52644724

not him, but any dual channel board will run with one stick of ram, his question is pointless.

you can take a 8, 4, and 2 gig stick of ram and throw them in anywhere and the shit will still work.
>>
>>52644953

hynix, samsung, and micron are typical shit you'll see in prebuilts, and that's not junk ram.

notice how computer illiterate people never bitch about their ram not working?

that's why.

RAM is pretty much all the same at this point. There's only a handful of companies making the actual chips and the rest of these companies are just there to supply the PCB that the chips sit on. RAM is one part that is pretty reliable these days. If it doesn't fail in a year it has a tendency to last for quite a while maybe even outliving every other component save for the CPU itself
>>
>>52645068

i meant the 2nd part of the question, gskill or another name brand is usually the cheapest brands anyways, so gook sticks are stupid to buy
>>
>>52644056
>implying that videocard manufacturer isnt important.

Have fun with your shit power delivery cuz
>>
>>52643894
Plain green sticks are the best sticks, it's you who's a ricer faggot with your shitty dark as my soul ramsinks on non-buffered, non-ECC memory.
>>
>>52643894
well i'm buying plain green ram becuase i want a custom heat spreader all the currect ones are trash tier expect for kingston.

DDR4 is going to be the ram with a full FAD on the custom heat spreader.
Also i'l going full curical this year while i'm waiting for Zen and the AMD motherboards

saving for computer and car at the same time. maddness.
>>
>>52643894
Im on fence about gskill. I wasn't happy with its performance on the 8 gb models compared to the corsair which has always worked wonders on all my system builds for the past 8 years. I think this is by an large due to Quality control.
>>
Why the hell you gotta trick out the inside of your computer nobody is going to give a shit
>>
>>52643990
yeah, but if anything goes wrong with my computer, something sluggish, crashing, bsod's ill always be like.

It's gotta be the RAM. Even if it probably isnt.
>>
>>52644440

This, it's a shame they stopped making it.
>>

My Kingston ram is green, my Transcend ram is green, ADATA ram is green, some OCZ ram I handled were green with gold heat spreaders.

I don't have windows in my cases and couldn't give a fuck what my component color is.

I have brown, black, red and blue motherboards, I have blue GPUs

I am not an autist that buys components based on color matching.
>>

What's wrong with green?

Green is usually name brand too you know.

But in all honesty I wanted BLACK LIKE MY SOUL PCB's but they weren't worth it with DDR4 on the horizon and it's not like I look at my computer all the time anyway.

Aren't these the only three companies actually producing the chips? Everyone else are just slapping the chips onto different coloured PCBs and giving them useless mohawks.

Hetland seems to be right, Kingston had their own fabs in 2005, it wouldn't be unexpected that they still do since RAM and flash memory tends to lager behind the cutting edge quite a bit in terms of fabrication process. Guess I stand corrected.

brown/green are the natural colors of the resin and hardener used for the solder mask, brown was phased out in time as glass epoxy took over as the standard and it naturally has a green tint.
>>
>>52643894

Pick one mate. There's only a handful of memory manufacturers in the world. It's a fucking oligopoly - there is no cheap no-name stuff.

>>
>>52649701
Not him but servers will be the first to jump onto DDR4 as they're the ones that see the most benefits. The tiny reduction in power consumption and cooling requirements is irrelevant for a desktop but absolutely key in a server environment.
>>
I have some hyper x fury blacks in my PC. I'm cognizant of the fact that the heat spreaders are pretty much for aesthetics, but I think the difference in price to get bare RAM sticks was like....7 bucks. So I got the RAM that matched my MOBO.
>>
>>52643894
Because not every PC is intended to be a top of the line gaymen rig. Cheap RAM with no heatsink is fine for most people checking normiebook and.
