To be fair at least their remaining business is carrier grade networking and 5G research.

High margin products, lots of juicy IP to milk.

At the time when Nokia desperately needed to be saved, Android still was at a very experimental level. Not even the most high end android phones could run smoothly or without jamming doing the most simple tasks. iOS was truly untouchable in terms of functionality and operating smoothness. Nokia needed something that wasn't a bloaty java coded piece of shit. Nothing could deliver like iOS did back then. Only after the later dual core CPUs Android got to a level where it was truly useable and there wasn't a noticible performance difference between iOS and Android. Now, thankfully, Android has gone past iOS and it doesn't matter how it's made, it just werks. All the meegofags want to habeeb their shitty OS was the future but that thing was buggy as hell and simply was not able to make a difference.

Nokia lacked the ambition Apple had. Apple didn't try to appeal to /g/entoomen, they just made a phone with a sharp as fuck screen that was a joy to use, a sleek design and as little as possible border overhang. Nokia made the mistake of keeping their phones bulky, that shit didn't work and no matter what they did, it wouldn't work, because people simply didn't want to buy bulky phones.

They should've just immediately copied what Apple did and make it better. But it was as if they were satisfied with barely matching the iPhone and then making it fat in case some retard dropped it. They forgot that modern dumbphone buyers are retards and after they drop the phone they will buy a new one, they are retards after all.

After they got their shit together by selling basically an iPhone that was 10% better at everything, they could've bloated their product line with bulky phones for hamfists and morons.

Nokia should have stuck to brickphones for 3rd worlders and high end indestructible phones for pros with android. Consumer market is fickle and filled with faggots

The closest thing that matched the iphone for software back then was webOS.

I really do think if Palm opened up webOS at the start they could have stood a good chance of slowing down Android massively.

Sailfish phones seem to be doing ok. Nokia would have been better off just continuing to develop their in-house GNU/Linux phones.

Jolla files for ‘debt restructuring’ after investor withdraws, says it is confident about delivering tablet and future of Sailfish

Finnish smartphone manufacturer Jolla has admitted it faces a fight for survival after one of its investors withdrew from a €10 million funding round, leaving the future of its tablet also in jeopardy.

The company, which includes a number of Nokia alumni among its staff, is “temporarily” laying off some employees and has applied for debt restructuring which is the Finnish form of bankruptcy protection.

“Jolla is now fighting for its survival,” said Antti Saarnio, co-founder and chairman of Jolla. “The key thing in this fight is that we succeed in our December financing round. If we do so, also the Tablet project can be resolved.”

That's about the tablet though, not the phones.
