Old tech thread. Everything goes, don't really give a shit how old i just like talking about old shit in general and how or if people are still using it, even if it's just like 10 years old.
Got this today for free, she's a little dirty.
Crussttyyyy

Only noticed after taking it apart a bit, this sticker. Was kind of hoping for a P4.
Although, after i booted her up i found out it's the same celeron i had when i was younger. First computer i built myself.
i had an old dimension
it fucking sucked
>>52638812
She's just as clean inside.
>>52638817
Yupppp, slow ass Celeron will do that, if you had the same cpu. Super disappointing when i opened it up to find no AGP slot.
Have a ton of old AGP cards laying around, Radeon 9800, Nvidia 6600 i think and a bunch of other crap. Really wanted to throw one in there.
Also, these stupid ass heatsink fan things they used. My father had an old dimension with one of these in it. Thing ran so hot.
>>52638894
Nasty.
>>52638915
Cleaned her all up, installing Win XP on it now.
Booted it up from the install that was on it. Nothing very interesting on it, seems like it was last booted at some point in 2011 and just left to rot since then.
Not sure what i'm going to do with it, if anything.
Have a similar one in my kitchen right now as a media PC when cooking and washing dishes, etc.
>>52638915
it sucked but i kinda liked it
was a server for home stuff until the hdd died and i didn't care enough to buy another
I use my model M on a daily basis, Manufactured in 1990.

autism
>>52639461
Not the guy who posted the model M, but I used one not too long ago.
I must say, i certainly prefer it over most other keyboards available on the market today. I'd never pay what people ask for them though.
It's a real shame really, my father used to work for the school district and got all the old PC's they threw away. I can't recall how many old 386, 486, Model M's, etc that we must have went through and thrown away.
Was great at the same time too though, as working on those things was how i first learned about building computers.
RDRAM masterrace.

How relevant is the q6600? I have an old one lying around and thought I should buy a gpu and make some use of it.
Would I be able to play Genesis on this?http://www.broadcaststore.com/store/model_detail.cfm?id=10560
mostly use it as a portable serial/telnet/ssh terminal, but it can run anything an old XT would
An oscilloscope
>>52639421
is anyone selling that oval badge sticker? i got one of the later model Ms (1994) and it came out of the box without one. i figure it was oem production or something
>>52640009
you'd do better with a modified lga 771 qc xeon
>>52640225
not with an IBM badge on it, but Unicomp sells one I think.
This things an old all-in-one word processing computer & printer, very cool
Another angle of the word processing printer, in its transportation formation
>>52640009
Still relevant enough to be plenty usable. Hell, it's more powerful than my main desktop, with a nice OC it's still a good chip.
>>52640031
Almost positive you could, but unless you already own one, why buy one? I understand the colours are supposed to look very vivid, and the picture quality is excellent. However, it's not going to be enough to warrant the purchase.
>>52640215
i came
would be nice to have an old top of the line analog scope.
But i make due with my rigol...
>tfw i only use it for mainly digital signaling
Anyone have some good youtube channels for this type of stuff?
I've recently come across Lazy Game Reviews, sometimes he does some hardware stuff that's kinda neat. There's a couple others i've seen but they're normally pretty mediocre.
>>52640436
If you like mid 2000s stuff and general computer videos, uxwbill and vweslife are good channels
>>52638781
I almost want to pick one of those up just to compare it to one of my high-end boxes from the same era. Looks like pure suffering.
>>52638812
>Was kind of hoping for a P4.
Well, it IS winter...
Is this worth it for $100?
>>52644888
trips
>>52644888
No, I got an ibook g4 for free.
>>52638781
Why did they not include AGP on this thing? They assume someone's going to use all 3 PCIs but no AGP, the line of thinking is odd to say the least.
I own one, comes equipped with a no fun allowed BIOS courtesy of Dell.
>>52647092
Probably trying to keep the system a certain bracket and make people who plan on adding their own graphics card pay for something a little higher-end. They can also shave off a bit of cost on the slots/headers plus case material since they don't need a four-slot case for a four-slot board.
There are plenty of non-GPU uses for expansion slots on these systems, including wireless, firewire/USB, or modems.
>>52644888
Depends on the model.
If it's something special and high-end like a Mystic (2x450 or 2x500MHz), a 500 MHz Sawtooth (which only lasted a couple months on the market before being bumped out for Mystic), maybe. It's all up to you whether you'll get $100 worth out of it or not.

my nigga
>>52640031
yea, it's got composite and RGBS inputs
obviously you wouldn't want to use composite on it

>>52639461
besides the lack of a super key the model M is an amazing keyboard
only other dowside is the 4 key rollover
>>52640150
Nice one.
