Can someone explain to me whats a difference between overclocking an i5 6500 and an i5 6600K, I'm well aware that you can get out more of the 6600K, but for now it looks like the i5 6500 is a better deal. What's the catch?

How much can overclocking a processor shorten it's lifetime?

To be fair cpus these days are built pretty strong. As long as they don't overheat, I wouldn't be surprised if they STILL outlast the rest of the gear it's working with...then again with that flexing issue I heard about the 6th gen maybe it isn't true anymore... Still have a Q6700 that's overclocked to 3.3 stable since the start, doesn't show any sign of dying either.

To be honest I wouldn't bother overclocking unless the games get better in a few years, if only 6600K had a stock cooler I would go with that, fucking Intel.

>>52631453
There is no catch, except the overclocking process is slightly more involved.

>>52631504
0% unless you're pumping ridiculous voltage through it.

So the question is what is the better performance for it's price? The $256.99 i5 6600K plus heating or the $200 i5 6500 with stock heating at start?
>>

Why would you not buy a cooler with the 6500? That makes no sense. Of course the 6600K is going to be better if you buy it along with an aftermarket cooler and overclock it. It'll also cost a lot more. The 6500 would offer the exact same performance for less if you buy a cooler with it and overclock that. A Hyper 212 EVO costs like $25. There's no reason not to buy one.

You're right I'm going with the 6500. Thanks a bunch!

It's a commercial trick.
It's like the 4x4 cars:
You buy this shit because you fancy yourself on rough roads.
But you'll never leave the city.

So you buy the potentiality that you could ever overclock you CPU.

What do you guys think? Is a
Corsair H60 54.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler worth it for an i5 6500? It's 50$.

2500k on 4.5Ghz greatly handles large and complex photoshop brushes and massive documents.
>>
>>52632304
get a big air cooler and that will be it.
>>
>>52631983
Don't forget to get a cheaper motherboard too.
The 'k' stands for 'stupid goy'.
>>
>>52632361
Currently the MSI Z170A PC MATE is the only cheapest one capable for that cheeky overclocking as far as I know.

>>52632347
Like what? :3c
>>
>>52632361
You still need a Z board to overclock even the non K chips.

look around and get the one that can fit in your case, chose by the number of heatpipes and the size.
With coolers the size is the quality.
>>
It can only be oberclocked 100-200MHz

Get a k poorfag

>commercial trick
>mfw I use 4 wheel drive all the fucking time
>mfw I overclocked my cpu going on 3 years ago and never had an issue
Poor people logic.

CPU's are designed to last roughly 15 years at their highest power state. It's lifetime will only be reduced if you run it at a higher voltage than it was designed for, but even with a higher voltage, they will still go for 10 years. With the higher voltage, temperature will begin to play an important factor in the lifetime, as the MTBF estimations are meant for operating at 40c.

Get the 6600K and get a silver arrow.

>3.xx ghz to 4.5
>100-200 mhz

2500k/2600k are your best option if you want a budget cpu
