>had my 1080p monitor for about a year
>It's always been slightly washed out but I took it as a "Get what you pay for" kinda thing
>realize today via nvidia inspector that my PC thought my monitor was an HD TV this whole time and was using a limited color spectrum
>flipped it to full, night and day difference, like having a brand new monitor
>>
>>52620115
16-235 needs to die
>>
>>52620115
Nvidia's shitty drivers always default to limited RGB no matter what. There wasn't even a toggle in the driver control panel to change it to full until last year. You had to download a third party program to do it.
>>
>>52620115
Why are tvs so shit?

I've literally never in my life seen a tv that didn't hurt my eyes with its awful image. They also always have dogshit slow, fugly, laggy and convoluted firmware. Pc monitors on the other hand have a perfect, crisp image and just werk, and just act as pure, straightforward, instant output devices instead of being half a pc on their own.
>>
>>52620198
>>52620133
Why does 16-235 spectrum even exist?
>>
>Plugged dvi to a hdmi monitor via adapter wondering why there's no sound coming out of it.
>Purchased a meme case and looked whole day for the power switch (even took it back to the shops thinking it's broken and was proven wrong with a single flick of clerc's finger, much to the amusement of everyone inside)
>Downloaded win 7 update isos and installed manually to not connect to microsoft servers in fear of legal consequences
>Shrekt battery compartment cover on an old laptop because i didn't notice the latch that you're supposed to pull beforehand

Fucking stupid. Lessons learned, at least.

From strix
>>
>>52620115
What's the benefit of using it in full? Can somebody explain?

It already looks really nice with the limited color profile... Do people who use Photoshop and crap use a full color range or something?
>>
>>52620982
Never mind, I changed it to full and changed my monitor's HDMI Black level to normal and it looks so much better.

Thanks, /g/, maybe you are right sometimes.
>>
>>52620964
is there something wrong with strix version of 370?
>>
>>52620115
My first experience with Linux (actually second, my first attempt at installing Mint was unsuccesfful due to me being inpatient, fucked up my HDD and gave up for a few months).

Installed debian, WLAN didn't work.
Started reading up, after like an hour learned about debian's nonfree policy and came up across debian's wiki page on iwlwifi.
After successful installation of the drivers and reboot it still didn't fucking work.

After 2 hours of reinstalling the drivers, trying to edit the configuration and literally standing on my head I noticed the hardware switch was in OFF postition.

I don't recall feeling more braindead in my life.

>What's the benefit of having the entire sandwich?
>This half-sandwich I have here is very tasty already. Why would anyone want the whole thing?
Jokes aside, the biggest difference when playing vidya is shadows. Go launch something like Alien Isolation for example and flip-flop between the two modes. The dark is darker and the light is lighter.
>>
>>52620982
Limited clips the dark black and bright whites. Good monitors can show the different gradations at the extremes.

>>
>>52620115
Where in inspector did it tell you that?
>>
>>52621073
It's not even just the extremes. All colours are a lot richer with full RGB, even on a shitty HDTV (but there you'll get crushed blacks too).
>>
>>52621412
Adding to that list - additional power switch.
Encountered one on some older, big ass lg tv. Hidden on the backpanel with all the connectors behind a thin piece of plastic. Facing down of course.

when wrongly chosing either full rgb or limited rgb the result with either be black crush or washed out blacks, colors and contrast suffer in turn. it depends.

are you 100% retarded? this issue is hdmi / displayport only - as has been stated and linked in this thread numerous times by now. basically it was nvidia going: 'it's got hdmi, duh, must be an hdtv. those are 16-235. punch it in.'

>muh lunix inside joke

>reflexively catch it
I had blisters for a week. Worst thing about these fuckers is that you don't feel the pain instantly, you have enough time to realise your fuckup before actually feeling it.

Running the command that plays the Zelda Theme Song. Anyone remember what it was?

>>52634608
That would have worked if you used easyBCD and set the iso to be loaded entirely in RAM. But it's a Windows only application.

Isn't HD TV just 1080p?
Sorry for my ignorance but I haven't owned a monitor 10 years now (last one was a 19 inch 5:4 1280x1024)

>>52632537

I got a thinkcentre a50 and I was using it to connect some old IDE drives and salvage data and it would not boot or display anything so I spent two hours swapping around cables, jumpers etc before I realised CPU power was unplugged

It died

Because new drivers could fry/gimp your card or make your display unstable

>makes mistakes
>learn from them and dont make them again instead of being a fucking retarded and blaming it on other people

Silver linings annon. I wish /g/ was more like this.

If your card is so old that new drivers are causing it to fry, it was time to upgrade anyways.

Fuck

>talking to classmates on irc

I think frying was an exaggeration but he does have a point. If you know that everything works perfectly fine why chance it not working? This is the exact reason I find stable drivers and software and keep the installation media.
>>
>>52620115
How do I find this through nvidia inspector??
>>
>check this on your desktop
>all's good

>go to your htpc with its 1080p telly
>check range, it's on limited
>find hdmi true black setting, it was off
>adjust brightness and contrast with http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/
>can't quite get the dimmest black and brightest white to show but eh, good enough
>it's so much better now
>less 'vivid' but much easier to look at

I should've done this years ago
