lenovo 100s vs macbook air.jpg

As a student who wishes to use his laptop to take notes and study, will I really notice enough of a difference between a macbook air and a netbook like the Lenovo 100s?

They both offer the same battery life, the macbook is a dual core it, the Lenovo is a quad core atom.

Will I really need more than a 32gb ssd for study notes and lecture slides?

Is the difference in performance worth the price difference? Will I even notice it significantly?

The macbook is 5x as expensive as the lenovo.

I was in your position at the start of last year and went with the cheaper option, and am very happy i did. I got an asus x205ta which has the exact same specs except has a nicer screen and track pad, would recommend. You wont notice any difference in performance unless you need alot of things running at the same time or want to play games/edit video.

buy a cuckbook and install downstoo bcuz we obvs know better than the rest of the normal world. my waifu loves my cuckbook because it has physical mouse buttons for the 90s style trackpad, wobbly keys, and a serial port.

Well, the lenovo is a cheap plasticky pos, while the macbook actually has build quality. The mac will probably run faster anyway, OSX is so much more lightweight than W10. That lenovo will constantly chug all the time, and you'll likely get frustrated and want to replace it before long. Atoms are crap processors. The apple keyboard is bad, but that lenovo is worse. Also, those cheap plastic hinges break really easily.

I actually saw the Lenovo in store. It was plastic but didn't feel cheap.
The keyboard was surprisingly pleasant to type on.
It was lightning fast when I browsed for a few minutes.

It's cheap, but I wouldn't call it a piece of shit. For the price it's a very nice product.

Plus it has slightly better battery life.
>>
>>52612861
i would go for it OP, it will be good enough for what you need. only thing i would say is to get an SD card.
>>
>>52612950
Shouldn't be too bad, I have a 64gb usb 3.0 drive.

I'm just curious why so many people buy macbooks for studying if this is enough.

I use a netbook running Debian and nano works pretty well for taking notes. Do all your notetaking from the terminal and you minimize the temptation to sneak a peek at your Facebook

Macs are nice too, but unless your parents are the ones paying for it you're better off with the Lenovo
>>
I'd be surprised if that Lenovo lasted 1 year let alone the 4 you need it to.
>>
>>52612522

Honestly, the mac is a (much) better laptop but for the price you'll be better off with the Lenovo if note-taking and lecture slides are all you want to do with it.
>>
>>52612500
If you want pussy, you're going to buy the macbook.
Everyone else will have a mac and people will rightfully assume you're poor if you buy a cheap walmart garbage craptop like a lenovo 100s.
>>
I'm posting from a 100s and for schoolwork and browsing it is fine you won't notice any difference. Surprisingly it converts stuff to webm pretty quick, as well as compressing files, that's about the only time I ever heavily use the cpu.

Netbooks now are at the stage where unless you are dealing with huge data sets or for whatever reason need to do video processing on the move you really don't need good specs. Even the super cheap stuff like a 100s can easily handle browsing, schoolwork and the like. hell if you could plug your phone intoa bigger screen and whack on a bluetooth MKB it could probably do just as well.
>>
>>52612861
if the lenovo's build isn't bad, just remove win10 put some linux distro and you'll be good as gold

forgot to add, forget linux if you et a 100s though, big negative there. You can do it, but i;s a massive fuckaround. Also bullshit how it's a 64bit chipset but they did some weird thing and it uses something other than BIOs and somehow the chip is trated like 32bit. idk.

That's fine. I usually switch browsers to whatever is convenient. Currently using vivaldi.

Chrome isn't as bloated as it used to be, I think.

That guy on the right made my boipussy quiver. Oh gosh <3
>>
>>52614147
I use vivaldi and I'm sitting at 3.3GB with 20 tabs open.

Then try adding in word, powerpoint, a pdf reader, etc open at the same time. Just doing research for school work will be completely impossible.

Get a real laptop seriously. An older used business class with a sandybridge or newer i5/i7 will last through everything after you upgrade the HDD to an SSD.

If you absolutely need battery life, you're not going to get it on older devices though, the CPUs just aren't that efficient.

>>

>>
>>52614251
might need them later or something.
I bet you can make your browser unload old tabs from ram if you want to, so the ram issue isn't as bad. I still wouldn't go under 4GB though, because even with 5 tabs open and mpchc open I'm using 2.6GB.

So OP get something with 4GB ram or you'll regret it.
>>
>>52614251

Funny, I still consistently get 18+ hours of usable battery life with my Latitude E6400 w9+12 cell batteries. Sure, it weighs a bit more than what you pansy little maggots want to carry around but I'm not a pansy little maggot, son.
>>

Yeah that sounds like it's a lot heavier than my T450s with 20 hours of battery life. And I bet the latitude doesn't even have an IPS panel. Or a good trackpoint.

VAIO master race.

15 hours battery life. 2 batteries, one internal, one docked.
>>
It really doesn't matter. They both do the same basic shit, and university programs aren't taxing enough to warrant the latest and greatest in processing power. You're going to be writing basic shit in Python, C, and Java and you could get by easily with a laptop from 2004 if you really wanted to.
The real question is do you want to save money with the Lenovo, or have the Mac which is more expensive, but also more accessible with your peers and IT staff for compatibility purposes.

Protip: get the Lenovo and you have more money for beer and protein powder.
>>
>>52614522
I might have bought one of these niggers if they still made them. My T450s is pretty decent though, and probably much more durable than any VAIO would have been.

>dat carbon fiber reinforced plastic lid
Seriously, this is probably the thing about my chinkpad I like the most. It's thin as fuck, but it feels rock solid. I don't know what the lids between the t60 and the t450s are like, but I definitely feel like they didn't compromise on strength with this lid while making it a lot thinner.

Master race reporting in. Do I really need a 13" laptop with room for 4 SSDs? No. But why the fuck not, it's still cheaper than a MBP.
>>
>>52618737
>4 SSDs
I've had it for years and it still outperforms most single laptop SSDs I've seen.
I've seen it go up to 800MB/s read and 600 write. With oks sata 2 SSDs.

No dgpu if I upgrade to w10 or Linux. I'm stuck on w7.

>Will I really need more than a 32gb ssd for study notes and lecture slides?
yes
you think that you will only use the computer for taking notes, but really you will be using for pretty much anything else.
and yes the difference between the i5 and the atom will be huge. the i5 is a 12-15 watt part, while the atom is probably 5-7 watts

you are either retarded, or a shill
ill go with both
remember all those articles about how windows 10 felt faster than mac os in evrey single way on the shitty macbook? theres a reason for that
>>
>>52612522

As a definite mac guy, who recently bought a MacBook Pro, has loved macs since 2007 when I bought my first MacBook, and used them almost exclusively in that time, including for work, I say this:

Probably not worth it if it's 5 times as expensive really.

I mean it's up to you, just weigh up what you want from a laptop. These days Windows 10 is just as capable as OS X, and in some ways better. Macs are good in some ways but they do cost FUCKING LOADS of money and I am regretting shelling out so much money on this new mac, when I could have got a Windows machine for half the price that I'm sure would have done me just fine. I just got this machine out of habit of using macs but now I think I made a mistake.

But yeah at the end of the day, make YOUR OWN decision and stick with it, don't be swayed by /gee/ - Autism.
>>
>>52612500
I used a Windows RT for about 2 years while for this very case of use. It was pretty perfect, despite being the slowest shit I've ever used. YT used about 30 sec to just load the mainpage.
But everything else was pretty great. If there are some cheap Surface 1/Yoga RT machines out there I'd actually still recommend them. Great battery life, free office, fast boot and no fan.
If you can't get one for a decent price just take the cheapest piece of shit with good battery life and no fan. Everything else really doesn't matter.
