4chan now uses Microsoft PhotoDNA to automate detection and reporting of child porn.

Do you feel safer now that Microsoft's algos are protecting you from accidentally seeing child porn images while browsing 4chan?

>>
>>52608498
doesn't work like that.
You need to upload it to OneDrive. And image needs to be hashed beforehand.
>>
>>52608989
lmao
>>
>>52609097
PhotoDNA does "perceptual hashing" on pedo images uploaded to OneDrive, Hotmail, Facebook, and several other major properties.

FBI and other law enforcement agencies also feed it images they seized from pedo's hard drives, crawled from dark web, etc.
>>
>>52608498
While on the topic of CP,

Maybe its time to update the laws regarding it.

people should be treated differently if they have images of say 16/17yos as opposed to having pics of under 12s

I think there should be a distinction in the law in regards to that, also a way for these people to seek treatment anonymously or something along those lines.
>>
>>52608989
Thats a big cock.
>>
>>52609161
>people should be treated differently if they have images of say 16/17yos as opposed to having pics of under 12s

This is reasonable, but CP is such a sensitive topic right now, anything that can be seen as easing punishment for pedos is a political suicide.

Judges and prosecutors generally use discretion, and will sentence the perp to the lower end of the rance, but you're still prosecuted as a pedo, not a hebe.
>>
>>52609146
couldn't you just change a pixel in the image and the whole hash updates? or do they do some kind of recognition?
if so, isn't having the data to like millions of pictures of cp illegal as fuck?
>>
>>52608498
>implying that photoDNA protection is bad
In fact is good. Automatizes a very troublesome task.
>>
>>52609201
No, it's a more sophisticated recognition system. Change a pixel will not do any shit to fool photoDNA.
>>
>>52609225
right, so isn't it illegal for microsoft to be recognizing all this child porn? wouldn't they have to have it somewhere?
bill gates confirmed for biggest paedophile ever
>>
>>52609201
That will fuck up traditional file checksum hashing like the one 4chan uses for duplicate image, but PhotoDNA uses much more sophisticated algorithms that can't be defeated by cropping, adjusting color, distorting, or applying filters.
>>
>>52609236

>>
>>52609236
>I don't know how law works
Programs can't violate laws.
>>
>>52609201
plus they store hashes, not necessarily the images themselves.
>>
>>52609236
the point is the botnet does it so no human has to
>>
>>52609236
they might be archiving it as raw decoded bytes in an encrypted automated environment or something like that.
>>
>>52609200
yeah people love the punish others, until they realize it doesn't work and its very costly keeping people in jail and clogs up the courts.

With all the resources being spent on finding these people and tracking them down, maybe some could be diverted into programs that would help them before they go down a more terrible path.

its a mental illness but the way we react and treat these people is as if they do it by choice.

And this issue is poltical kryptonite, no one is going to do anything to make any laws more lax about it because "think of the children!", meanwhile its the children sending nude pictures to each other and then getting caught up in these really stupid laws there were created.

I am all for a reasonable balance, not some lop sided approach of simply arresting everyone.

They probably programmed it and tested with common stock images and then left to the FBI to do the dirty work of hashing the Chesse Pizza.
>>
>>52608498
So, how do we use this tool to help us search for more CP?
>>
>>52609236
i'm sure they are under some legal obligation to report it.

Did they have to implement photoDNA ? who knows.

There was a story recently where the FBI busted a CP website and then kept it running in order to catch more perps, what are the moral and legal implementations of that ?

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2016/01/21/fbi-ran-website-sharing-thousands-child-porn-images/79108346/
>>
>>52609321
Yep.
Ignoring all the fuss, photoDNA in practice is for automating the elimination and report and avoid the unwanted things that follows handling these type of images.
Honeypots are another league.
>>
>>52609345
but everyone uses microsoft OSes and all their link services are also part of the botnet.

Nah, they could fool you easily without linux or with linux.
Also, photoDNA isn't in windows, but runs as a userspace application in server environment.
>>
>>52609437
never said that, read the post i replied to properly
i'm telling you that slipping photodna into any linux distro would never fly in the community
>>
>>52609454
And so? It's completely irrelevant to talk of the "community" and photoDNA. PhotoDNA isn't distributed widely to begin, it has to be solicited to the FBI or Microsoft to begin.
Why the fuck freetards like to mention their pirated UNIX even when doesn't matter?
>>
>>52609480

same way the state must prove a person is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Realistically speaking there is a good chance people here/on the internet have seen CP, not of 12yos but more than likely of 16/17 girls.

All I am saying is that laws need to catch up to reality, maybe even lower the age at which people can be nude (16+ ?)
or create a new category of laws regarding it, ones that apply to teen age children and separate laws for children under 13.
I don't have the perfect solution, but I would really like to open the dialogue on the issue so the laws can be fixed so there are less miscarriages of justice and the punishment will more appropriately fit the crime.
>>
>>52608498
So will it be able to detect original images or only images in the FBI database? If the former, how does it do that? What if its just a young looking 18 year old?

16+ (maybe even 15+) shouldn't be classified as child porn, it should called what it is, teenage porn. Your not a child at that age, you're sexually mature.

And so it shouldn't be illegal for one teenager to have naked pics of another teenager. Something like how the age of consent is 16 in most places, so should the age of nude pictues.
>>
>>52609618
I think it's funny how some malicious teenagers could send pics of their dicks/tits/vagina to someone and get themselves and the other people arrested.

I want it to remain illegal, actually. Maybe people will think twice about taking nude pics and regretting it later.

Perhaps you can distribute them with some kind of destruction and reconstruction, but that's beyond the scope of photoDNA. They use perceptual hashing (e.g. pHash) for fast matching and neural network for more accurate, but slower matching.

It's pretty hard to defeat it reliably.
>>
>>52609636
When is the first politician getting jailed for cp because some 12 old got frustrated with what they're doing and starts sending them cp of themselves and then reporting it to police.

I see a business opportunity here. Send cp and the feds after your mortal enemies. Guaranteed money back if their life isn't complitely ruined.
>>
I feel like they're going to use this for "stolen" content in the future so the US's insane, borderline unconstitutional IP laws will actually start to be enforceable

I wouldn't have a problem if it only applied to "science and the useful arts", or even if dumb greedy fucks like sony and disney stopped extending the duration of the "limited times". At one point, copyright was actually a reasonable compromise between profit and freedom that didn't put a narrow subset of professions in a social class bordering on royalty.

The fact that you're all giving a fuck about some pedo's porn collection is kind of sad. The united states is enforcing the death of free culture worldwide and microsoft is looking to become a tool of that enforcement.
>>
>>52609808
You don't think Facebook, Google, and Yahoo!/Tumblr aren't already prepping the system for IP violation filtering under pressure from major copyright holders?
>>
>>52609829
I don't "think", I've accepted it as inevitable fact. Luckily, those are shitty websites, not an OS that enforces its own popularity via education, OEM deals/conspiring (microsoft requires that ARM devices be locked, period, because they know other OSes can still beat their software selection there), and incompatibility.

You can escape the web but you can't escape windows

First, photoDNA is for their cloud service. Next, they take advantage of more powerful hardware to do regular system hashes to detect local "counterfeit" data and "malware".

on related CP news..

>The proposal would require computer technicians to report child pornography to law enforcement or a federal cyber tip line if they encounter the material, but they would not be required to go searching for it. If they find it and don't report it, they could be given up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
