Old tech appreciation thread.
Let's see what /g/ has held on to and if it's still in use or not.
Just got this as a gift from my father, it's an old pentium.
I got an old computer from 90's down in the basement, has win 95, used to play Commander Keen, Prehistoric and other games on it. Have no pics right now tho.
Oldest thing I still have is a Pentium III Compaq desktop. It still powers up, but BSODs before reaching the desktop.
I also have one >>52606939
I pulled this box out the other day, check this shit out.
>>52607190
Current generation will never experience the need for expansion slots.
Fucking wifi and everything is just built in now.
I had one of these in my first computer. Used it all the way until the 5770 came out.
Western Digital 20MB HDD. It had its own 5.25 bay caddy that I've lost.
Needs more Voodoo 2s in SLI.

Nice, date code looks like they were still the fastest x86 you could buy when it left the fab, too.
>>52609087
One of WD's first drives, breddy good
>>52607385
nigga pls
>>52609000
I think I have something similar at home.
Just ordered a desktop. Might throw it in there for kicks if it fits.
>>52609547
>not even using PCI
>>52609588
I don't have anything useful to put there
I was planing on putting a sound card there, but the onboard is good enough
wew lads

Those bent pins are disgusting.

Horrifying.

Intel CPUs at least since the 80286 always feature a string of numbers that includes the week and year of manufacture.
For example, if you look on the bottom of OP's CPU, there is a string that reads15232560AB
The first letter/digit indicates the plant of origin IIRC, however the next three digits, in this case "523", indicates the processor left the plant on the 23rd week of 1995, or between 5 June and 11 June 1995.
The Pentium 133 was announced on 1 June, so that would have probably been part of the very first runs of the chip to leave the factory (or even an engineering sample, I'm not really sure if the "(factory) ES" designation still indicated that by then), and the fastest chip you could get while Windows 3.1 was still the latest and greatest.

24-30 June 1996, assuming it's a Pentium 100 like your pic it would have been a solid choice for an office workhorse or an upper entry-level consumer multimedia PC.
another day another old garbage luddite circlejerk
>Old tech appreciation
Yeah gotta find something to do with it because it won't turn on anymore right
>still in use or not
Gonna go with not, but even when something is totally dead, it turns out you can still jack off on it
There is an old saying that as time goes on, the internet will be mostly full of things said by dead people. I say that as time goes on, it will segregate by age due to nostalgia circlejerking. No other board that isn't directly themed about old things on 4chan is as a quarter horny for old garbage and shit people threw away as /g/ and it's the one board where it shouldn't be since you can't DO anything anymore with this besides jack off.
But I suppose this fits in with the ironic fad age we live in where everything must be opposite from what you were expecting.

Shouldn't you be off squandering the power of your 980Ti adding bloom effects and 4K textures to shitty '90s games, Justin?

this kills the autism
>>52610386

>>52610407
24GB is still breddy good, I want to upgrade my Xeon shitbox to that amount but I really don't see a reason to, I can barely max out 12.
Still, shit, matching coolers should be pretty cheap off Ebay.
>>52610432
I've hit the limit on 24, but only because I had around 200 tabs open, tf2, ksp, elite dangerous and 3 eve clients
but it was still running fine during all that
the only cooling upgrade I plan to do is modding 2 clc's into a loop or just building a loop and upgrading to 6 cores

In that SIMM configuration list can you find any configuration that is not just the sum of the two SIMMs?
Maybe they're just saying you need to have something in slot 1.
>>52611186
>>52611207
I've got a voodoo 3 2000 agp card, a pair of slot 1 p3's, a stick of 512MB sdram, sound blaster awe64. I'm kicking myself because I had a dual slot 1 server board that fit all those parts and I threw it out because of leaky caps - should have tried fixing it.
I also recently grabbed an mini aptiva desktop that looks neato.
...AND a couple of sun sparc servers from around circa 1997.
>>52611446
post the SPARC shitboxes family
all I've got from that era is a rusted out to fuck Ultra 1 that still works somehow
>>52611467
The top one is newer but I forget the model. The monitor is in another room.

Enjoying that Passive matrix display?
>>52611758
Looks like a SPARCStation 20, older than the Ultra 1 but much more high-end in the context of when it was released. It's even got the optional internal CD-ROM drive. Pretty sweet.
>>52611789
I've got one too, they're fucking borderline unusable.
