Thoughts on Kingston 1TB Flash drive.

Anyone have it? Are there any alternatives?

Shit costs 750$.
>>
>>52592880
30 32GB flash drives and a big USB hub
>>
>>52592880
Just use an external hard drive instead. Much cheaper.
>>
>>52592880
2 kingston 512 gb ones
4 256 gb ones
8 128 gb ones (cheapest)

it's this hard op
>>
>>52592957
>Just use an external hard drive instead. Much cheaper.

Yeah, but this is more convenient and way cooler. Takes less space. I already have 2 external hard drives.

By alternatives I meant, what other companies produce 1TB flash drives.
>>
>>52592983
>convenient
Convenient is also not having to break the bank.

>cooler
Irrelevant.

>takes less space
Because external drives take up SO much fucking volume.
>>
Fry's was selling 256GB USB 3.0 sticks just yesterday for $35. Paying $750 for 1TB is a bit fucking retarded considering.
>>
>>52592880
Buy it. Blow peoples mind.

I never could because I'd be paranoid about losing that shit.
>>
>>52593142
Vanity.
>>
You can buy 2 1tb ssd for that price
>>
>>52593047
>Convenient is also not having to break the bank.

Only for uncool poorfags.

>Irrelevant.

For virgin /g/fag, yes.

>Because external drives take up SO much fucking volume.

If you are a person with social life it is convenient to have the drive in your pocket.
>>
>>52592961
this.
Unless you have a single file larger than 128gb, spreading the data over several devices is cheaper, safer and faster.
If you need to store several TB of data off site, tapes are cheaper, if you need to carry a lot of data with you, a hdd is cheaper.
If you need to be able to swallow a TB data, micro sd cards are better.

If this was really cheap I could see a reason to use this.
>>
>>52593203
Go back to your smartphone generals and reddit.
>>
>>52593269
The fuck kind of social life requires you to carry around 1TB of animu?
>>
>>52593203
>Only for uncool poorfags.
By poorfag you mean anybody who doesn’t have money to burn aka the average person.

>For virgin /g/fag, yes.
No, for everybody. No responsible person forks out so much cash on something just because it's cool.
>>
>>52593203
>autism: the post
>>
>>52592880
I imagine these things have no wear leveling (like SSDs do) so they'd probably shit the bed quite quickly if you write (and erase) a lot of files.
Better off just using a portable SSD or HDD.
>>
>>52592983
Get a lexar 128gb usb. Its more than enough to store whatever you might need, its considerably smaller than the OP usb, costs 10 times less and has great performance
>>
>>52593495
I'm not that guy, but people do shit Out alot of money for cool shit. Why do you think apple exists?
>>
>>52594059
Overpriced as Apple is, forking out money for an Apple computer is more justified than this. You get more for your money than a 1TB flash drive. The average person will likely never use up that space at-least for storing shit they would need on a portable drive. Not only that but in a few years these things will be so cheap you can wipe your ass with them.
>>
>>52593203
>If you are a person with social life it is convenient to have the drive in your pocket.

nobody that needs to carry around 1tb of random files with them everywhere has a social life.
>>
>>52595041
>nobody that needs to carry around 1tb of random files with them everywhere has a social life.
How will this sentence look like in about 10 years?
Imagine saying 10 years ago (when flash drives where ~32mb) this:
>nobody that needs to carry around 1gb of random files with them everywhere has a social life.
Feels kinda like 640k meme.
>>
>>52596465
well then wait 10 years, by then a 1TB flash drive will cost 10 bucks
>>
>>52596465
in 10 years from now most storage will be cloud based and all our phones will have gigabit+ bandwidth

This is $250
The Kingston drive has been out for over a year, it was just kind of a novelty to prove that they could. Internally its supposed to be pretty fancy though. The case is super tough too.

A bunch of these newer drives are starting to use low end SSD controllers, and Mushkin is even offering some with higher quality flash cells so it is a legitimate USB SSD instead of a beefed up thumb drive.
>>
That's a lot of cash down the drain if you lose it OP

It's never a good idea to buy just based on something "looking cool". Always choose function over form. Otherwise, you're wasting your money.
>>
>>52592983
Well have fun paying $750 for a flash drive faggot
>>
>>52592880
it will be like 10$ in 10 years
>>
>>52597341
USB won't be around in 10 years.
>>

> Not only that but in a few years these things will be so cheap you can wipe your ass with them.

What makes you think so? Moores law is not infinite.
>>
>>52597957
NAND scaling isn't anywhere near slowing down in scaling.
15nm and smaller dies stacked with TSVs instead of simple wire bonding gives a tremendous increase in storage density per package.
>>
>>52593377
The social life in which I install Ubuntu on it and use nothing but the computers of other friends. Homeless couch/computer hopping.
>>
Also USB keys are more prone to be lost
>>
>>52592880
If your even contemplating it, but justify it over alternatives, then don't buy it.

Buying it just because you have a bigger flash than most of anyone isn't a good reason either. Stupid purchases like this is what caused the market to become what it is.
>>
>>52592880
Have fun when you accidentally wash it and lose your 750 gb of furry porn

This applies only if you are pleb who only needs function and does not get laid.

Women want fancy stuff.

>>
>>52592880
Just buy a portable 1TB hard drive if you need that much portable storage, you know, like anyone with common sense would do.

If you're going to spend a shit ton on a USB you will never use, you might as well get one of those SSD-USBs like the Corsair Voyager GTX. This one claims max sequential read speeds (ATTO) of 450mb/s and max sequential writes (ATTO) of 350 mb/s.

Try these, thank me later:
