Pretty L337 m8

It's convenient if you're doing penetration testing.
It makes you look rad and edgy if you're 13.
>>
Is Kali still the go to for le edgy hacking or is there a better pentesting distro?
>>
>>52581270
Well I am trying to learn Gray Hat Hacking because I want to learn about security and how I can keep myself safe from other people. Would you think this is a good distro?
>>
>>52581320
From my understanding it is. I know it used to be called Backtrack and it was always the go to then. Tbh though you could install these tools on any linux distro manually, Kali just comes with everything preinstalled.
>>
>>52581325
It has the most stuff tacked on if you don't want to call it bloat. It is also pretty regularly updated.
>>
>>52581320
That is what I want to know
>>
>>52581342
Yeah but I like the simplicity. Live Kali one on a USB is like a swiss army knife.
>>
>>52581372
That is how I feel, but also I don't know if I should learn the pen testing techniques first or learn some coding. Really unexperienced with terminal as well. I do prefer Linux over anyother os though.
>>
>>52581396
>doesn't know about CLI
>wants Kali
Stop.
>>
>>52581213
arch is better right?
>>
>>52581372
For sure, I have nothing against using Kali. No point in wasting your time manually installing these tools when it comes prepackaged with the OS.
>>
>>52581171
If I see that fucking dragon design one more fucking time...
>>
>>52581427
Well I am trying to learn everything in one go and I honestly am struggling, do you have suggestions?
>>
>>52581396
Tbh if you start learning some pen testing techniques or a programming language your bound to end up using the Terminal if you are doing this all on Linux.
>>
>>52581455
Some anons may think this sounds silly but there are tons of Kali Linux tutorials on YouTube. I'd check out some of those if you just want to dive head first into this stuff.
>>
>>52581447
xD Sorry I am just trying to get opinions on the distro
>>
>>52581455
I'm no Linux guru, but start with Ubuntu or Debian, note down your annoyances with the system (if any) and move on to whatever fixes them the best.
>>
Isn't it basically debian with some tools preinstalled?
>>
>>52581488
Thank you xD. I know I do sound kind of dumb but it's the way I like to learn.
>>
>>52581496
I believe Kali is based on Debian so it wouldn't really matter to much imo. The command line tools and file system are pretty much the same across all Linux distros so I don't think it would matter to much if the anon jumped straight into using Kali.
>>
>>52581520
Hey its not dumb at all. Nothing wrong with having the willingness to learn on your own. Thats how I started programming when I was a teenager and now I do it for a living.
>>
>>52581396
learn a programming language first kid

how the hell can you hack and not know basics of programming?
>>
>>52581551
That is cool. I am a teen and believe that I should learn right now what I plan on learning in the future. Thanks for the feedback!
>>
>>52581561
Well my knowledge on hacking is very low so I honestly didn't know how much programming or even if I needed to know programming to hack.
>>
>>52581568
No problem not everyone is an asshole on /g/ haha. Good luck!
>>
>>52581536
I believe he'd learn to use and value the tools much easier if he'd install them on his own. Most Kali tools need CLI.
>>
>>52581561
You don't have to know how to program to hack, there are tons of tools out there that can help you do things such as hacking WPA2 without having any programming knowledge. All you have to do at that point is have the right wireless adapter and be able to follow a YouTube tutorial. I know plenty of people who are Software Engineers for a living and do not know how to hack.
>>
>>52581640
you're not a good hacker if have to copy and paste every script from pastebin
>>
>>52581621
Yeah I'm not saying he wouldn't use the CLI on Kali. I feel like it would save him a lot of time by not having to go and install everything manually.
>>
Holy shit this thread, how did I get on reddit?
>>
it's fucking retarded
>>
>>52581673
Thats true there is a difference between a hacker and a script kittie. However, when it comes to hacking certain things you don't have to necessarily create your own tools. Why waste your time creating your own packet sniffer when TCPDump and Wireshark are already available and work perfectly.
>>
>>52581683
Technically yes, but the question is what does he want to do with it. I find it good as a live distro (or stuck in a VM) but rather pointless on install.
>>
>>52581741
Yeah I can agree with that.

Meme distro for 12 year old h4xx0rs who want to be edgy.
>>
>>52581741
Kali 2 is a useable OS honestly, with the gnome shell it's basically fedora but with my 1337 and WiFi crackers
>>
>>52581640
>I don't feel like putting the work into even learning a programming language
>I want to just use people's scripts without knowing how they exactly work
Sure, millennial degenerates may not know how to program and are still able to break into insecure things.
Doesn't mean they are good at le hax0ring
>>
>>52581858
I don't show off like an edgy kid I just want to learn for my own sake
>>
>>52581702

> "script kittie"

It's script kiddie...
>>
>>52581922
i've legitimately seen both used equally as much and I never understood why.
>>
>>52581938
Probably because half the people using that term actually are skids and don't know the proper term.
>>
>>52581922
Does it really matter lol?
>>
>>52581918
Yeah not saying they are a 1337 hacker. You obviously wouldn't see these individuals discovering zero days.
>>

Go take the CLI class from codeacademy. And then do the interactive Bash class from learnshell.org And do the cli.learncodethehardway.org/book/ to tie it all together.

After doing this you should be able to work Kali fairly decently. As well as writing your own Bash scripts when/if the situation arises.

Also, learn python, C, php, JS, and html. After doing the aforementioned of courses.

When learning how to use the tools, Google any tutorial you need. There are tons. But you will need CLI (and possibly some Bash) knowledge no matter what. As the majority of the tools are used in the CLI.

Take the CLI class on codeacademy first. Shouldn't take more than 30min or so. Then proceed as listed. You will then be well on your way.

I would also recommend some hacking training sites too. Enigmagroup, hackthissite, etc. I like EG the best personally.
>>
>>52581171
its okey, pre 2.0 versions were/are better imho.
>>
>>52581988
I can read this fine

No more distros! Kill it now it has no right to exist.

Get Parrot OS
>>
>>52581922
There is a difference between a hacker and a script kittie and there is a difference between a script kiddie and a script kittie.

script kitties are baby cats that run pre-arranged scripts and use exploits that others have found.
>>
>>52583600
You better watch out Anon, it is hacker cat-urday.

With the gnome shell it's not a usable OS because gnome isn't a usable DE.

what the fuck is this thread

this.
it's not even debian-based
it's literally debian with a different installer and livecd capabilities
