You may only post in this thread if you use Gentoo.
What if I don't have gentoo installed?
I don't have Gentoo installed. Come at me.

I'm using Windows right now, what you're gonna do OP?
Fuck you, also Arch > Gentoo.
>>52568026
congrats, i couldn't maintain it and prefer to boot into an install script and not a shell
it's a nice distro, somewhat odd software choices in the long install FAQ, best bundled utils of any linux, comfy BSD-style init
it's like a DIY minimal mac os x for linux users
A+
I'M A WINDOWS USER. DO SOMETHING OP YOU FAGGOT.
>>52568026
Did use it for ~2 months
portage is shit.
>OP Fell for the Gentoo meme
>>52568026
HEY GUIS XD
Why gentoo is so popular here? I was using Debian and Ubuntu
>>52568528
That looks really polished anon
>>52568529
ricing, timesink. same as arch.
it's a meme because it was originally very complicated and time-consuming to install, so saying "install gentoo" was kind of like saying "go fly a kite, buzz off". It's since gotten simpler and anyone who can follow a guide can do it. it's still more involved than setting up most distros though
>>52568588
>same as arch.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Newfag detected
>>52568026
I got it running in a VM, with no signs of GUI anywhere

Do you think I can run Gentoo on an X201 I have coming soon? I was gonna use Arch, since I have the most experience with it but compiling looks so beneficial.
I'm getting the i5 version.

Gentoo looks really comfy. Logos and names are important for me
>>52571519
what is the logo supposed to be? i always think it's pacman but rounder but that can't be right

You can read pdfs with lesspipes and less.

Why would you use twm...
Why.
Seriously that's uglier than win95

it's not twm.

Build you Xterms with Athena Widgets (xaw3d) it'll fit the twm motif.

Dead meme distro.
"Install Arch" is the new official /g/ meme.

I dual boot arch and gentoo, but here's my gentoo install in a chroot from arch
>>52572472
It's Motif. And it's uglier than win95 because it was designed by Microsoft.

>impressive, did you even install gentoo on a raspberry pi 2?
Did you mean to say how did I? If you didn't then yes I did that machine is an RPI2.
If you did, it's much easier than installing regular Gentoo since everyone who wants to use Gentoo on the RPI2 has the same hardware so if you want a fairly simple setup it's just as easy as using ArchARM as far as the installation goes. There are lots of guides out there.
My workload is getting a bit too heavy for the RPI though.
>>52572760
But it doesn't work in the same way... Not that gentoo is hard but arch is damn near stupid proof with 99% hardware compatibility, no kernel configuration, and in general follow directions and it "just werks"

>>52573644
How did compiling go ?
>>52574988
Not bad, I just use it for simple headless server stuff:
NFS handling some disks in a BTRFS RAID, seedbox(rtorrent/rutorrent+lighttpd), MPD/ncmpcpp, serving Tor to the LAN, so I'm not compiling stuff like firefox/webkit.
Honestly it's really capable for what it is and I've only wanted to upgrade since it started handling a large amount of bittorrent traffic from my rtorrent setup.
