I come from a third world, and I never saw students using laptops during lectures, so can you explain why would a student need a laptop with small resolution to make presentations and weak performances for CAD software?
To take notes during lectures? Doesn't seem viable, since there's no enough time to draw all those sketches and diagrams on laptop, so why would you carry it?

Not really, the books are usually plagiarized from Soviets. Only one of the professors plagiarized the current book from MIT, and did it only by translating and substituting imperials with metrics, so that 2 feets became 2 meters in the excersizes.

I use my laptop for non math related lectures, as they usually don't have diagrams, and are boring as fuck so I work on stuff for other courses during the lecture, while typing out the occasional note

Before I got a convertible, I would use a laptop for three reasons: to be that guy, because I could type as fast as I wrote (with less strain too), and so I could play solitaire during boring lectures.
Then I got a convertible and and it made life 10x better because I could type shit that needed to be typed and do so with comfort and I could draw shit that would be easier drawn. I ended up hand writing almost everything because I learned how to shortcut with my notes and then just using OCR in OneNote and also because I realized that I was actually doing better inclass when I wasn't distracted with solitaire.

There's also the option to take a photos and add em to the notebook.

Most college students don't carry laptops, at least not here (pacific northwest usa). The only place it's commonplace is in expensive universities where most students come from families with lots of money or aren't afraid of going in tons of debt.
