people will get their realforces in a couple months from assdrop, and will sell the extra spacebars, thus inflactioning the market and bringing down the price.
I reckon in September if no other runs have been made, you could get $20 a pop.

I bring mine at work everyday, and my work also involves travelling so my hhkb rarely stays in the same place for 24h
I still use the cellophane plastic it came with tho, because I'm a cheap bastard and don't want to show off.
Remember to get a code, objectively THE best keyboard

the keyboard size & layout is the most important about picking a keyboard

>>52540594
I akready have two keyboards(one I assembled two weeks ago even), but I have been wanting an Infinity Ergodox since I first saw it.
Should I just buy it and put it on the side for a rainy day/hardware failure?
I dunno what switch I should ger though. These new 78g zealios, are they anywhere near as sriff as greens? I was thinking a tactile, non clicky switch might be the way too go, just not sure what is stiffest.

>>52541403
I use Topre, but I find most cherry switches to be quite nice too.
Except for browns. They feel like linears with dirt stuck in them.
>>52541460
I don't like the feel of linears but I like brown and blue a little bit
where did the meme of browns feel bad come from?
>>52541480
From the fact that they do feel bad.
Or rather than bad, simply inferior to every other cherry switch. Even to blues.
I didn't like linears either until I actually used them on a full keyboard.
>>52541480
>where did the meme of browns feel bad come from?
from mx browns switches
>>52541278
Zealios or matias quiet are probably your best options then. Both should have more os less the same actuation force, yet still a little bit lighter than greens.
How am I supposed to get a mech kb with blue switches in an ex soviet shithole where no fucking shop stocks mech kbs.
Are there any good international/EU shops that ship to fucked up shitholes of countries where most people arent even able to feed themselves, but nervermind that. Don't recommend me any of that topre shit though, it s just rubber dome with some metal plate inbetween.

The only cherry switch which I prefer to clears are greens. They feel so fucking crisp.
Problem is that they're loud as shit. If you prefer blues over clears but don't mind the weight of clears I think you should give greens a try.
If they're too heavy I can only provide you with my condolences over the fact that you have the hands of a girl mate.
>>52541719
hmm, it's a shame but I will probably just have to wait for something to pop up, I'm getting the white because it has the switches I want but I think the black looks better. Maybe It will be nicer with new key caps.

WHERE DID YOU GET THIS KEYCAPSET
I figure this is the best place to ask.
My old Merc Stealth is well getting well... old and the last drivers are 8 years out of date.
Are there any direct replacements on the market, or all they all downgrades?
Will I have to buy some tiny mechanical and a separate game-board to get a replacement for all the functions? (Well not all, I could do without the fucking alt+f4 shortcut.)
>>52542551
On the internet?
>>52542496

>>52542592
doesnt matter
Idk why I placed that questionmark at the end
>>52542496
Also, don't be afraid to just dive in. I feel like once I understood how a keyboard matrix works things became a whole lot more understandable.
>>52541278
>These new 78g zealios, are they anywhere near as sriff as greens?
Keep in mind that actuation force is not the same as bottom-out force.
>>52542593
I don't think I could call this endgame yet, though I'm fairly certain that this will be my daily driver until it dies (that'll be one sad day).
Maybe it'll be endgame once I've gotten hasu's controller. Though that'll hardly stop from spending more money on keyboard related stuff. I only just got into building them.
>>52542609
>cheapest mechanical is also 80 euros minimum so thats a no-go
You may be in the wrong thread in that case.
This is a thread about mechanical keyboards, which unfortunately tend to be a whole lot more expensive than regular membrane based rubber dome keyboards.
>>52542495
>Yeah I know. The spacebar is ABS, while the rest of the keycaps are dyesubbed PBT. I wonder if apple sells spacebar whitening bleach.
Sounds like you need retrobright.
>>52542673
You may be the first extrovert here that has good taste in manga
>>52542655
So how does stuff really measure up then?
I see some stuff listing bottom, some actuation, some listing in grams, some in newtons.
Maybe my google-fu is weak, but I can't find a simple easy to understand explanation.
This image is the best I can find.
Would I be wrong in assuming that the new 78g Zealios would be slightly stiffer than clears, but not as stiff as greys or greens? Somewhere in the middle or so?
>>52542456
NovaTouch can't feel like a membrane since it has no membrane. Do you mean rubber dome? Yes, it feels like a very, very nice rubber dome.
>>52542699

>>52542712
>So how does stuff really measure up then?
Cherry posts actuation rates. Korean springs (like those used in Zealios) are bottom-out rates. I don't think anyone has measured actuation rates of all the different gook springs, but I remember a graph to compare the ones from Originative to Cherry's. One sec.
>Somewhere in the middle or so?
This is my assumption.
I want to buy my first 60% (or similar form factor) mechanical keyboard.
I'm looking for something that is backlit and programmable to 2-3 layers with the ability to write macros and stuff.
What would you recommend?

Looking to buy a Tenkeyless CODE keyboard with blues as my first mech board (through massdrop so it's about 120$ total). Anything I should know about? I heard about a ping issue, but I believe that was on the clears and it's possible to add insulation to dampen/remove the noise. Will it affect but that much with loud blues?

I thought about doing that for my Compact SQ just for kicks (backlit legends look chintzy as fuck to me, but I'm not opposed to an underglow), but it never panned out.

Books are just too slow. I read fast in English, so I just can't keep focus working through one in Japanese.

see this shit for example.
The windows key is 1u by 1u, this is usually either compensated by a larger spacebar or a larger ctrl key.
Keycap sets often only accommodate for standard bottom rows since most enthusiasts have decent keyboards which don't have a nonstandard bottom row for no good reason.
In a standard bottom row all the modifiers would be the same size. A nonstandard bottom row isn't a huge deal in terms of usability, but you'll regret it once you want to replace your keycaps.

Thinking of making a pok3r style case out of maple wood since both me and the friend who will be eventually receiving this (I switched to ANSI with my second keyboard and won't be switching back, no matter how sexy this board looks) like the look of the pok3r.
Though that's not definitive. I'd like to keep the case as minimalist as possible, given that the original had a bulky as fuck case and that this is a minimized version thereof.
can i sell old mech keyboards to you guys?
>>52544233
Maybe. What do you have to offer?
>>52544233
I did a couple days ago!
>>52544233
what do you have?
what layouts
what switches?
>>52544246
unfortunately I'm at work so I don't have access to all my old stuff. I'll get back on later tonight or later this week and sell on here.
I know I have some space invader switch keyboards, at least one model M in good condition, some old NMB board with all Cherry MX Blacks (would be incomplete for a modern layout though), and some others which are real oddities, haven't been able to positively identify them on deskthority yet. At least one has ALPS White clickies, but I don't really know much more about it.
Like I said, I'll get on later with more info. Looking to sell cheap.
My CM Storm Quickfire TK with blues came in today. Aside from the non-standard bottom row, how did I do for the first time? I'm liking it so far.

Speaking of LED covers:

Only $20. No good looking red, but everything else seems fine.
>>52544292
Consider me interested.
What layout (ANSI or ISO) and where would you be shipping from?
>>52544292
where are you from?
>>52544323
>>52544325
I'm not too up on layouts, but I am from Rockford, Illinois.

>I'd like to keep the case as minimalist as possible, given that the original had a bulky as fuck case and that this is a minimized version thereof.
Yeah, I dig it.
Wait, is that a latching caps lock?
>>52544344
So I'm assuming ansi layout.
Consider me extremely interested.
>>52544349
>Wait, is that a latching caps lock?
It certainly is.
>>52544363
>It certainly is.
Love it.
>>52544363
>MX Lock
Didn't Cherry discontinue those? I ordered a few for my Compact SQ, but I have no idea if JigOn supports it.
>>52544363
well shit I don't want to post again later when you're not on. Can I get a way to contact you?
>>52544396
certainly, drop me an email at [email protected]
Though I'm around here most of the time anyway since I've got this thread open on my second monitor on one of my seven virtual desktops.
>>52544392
It's alps. The switches and keycaps are from an old apple extended keyboard.
>>52544392
>I have no idea if JigOn supports it.
What would it need to do differently? Just assign shift to the key.
>>52544450
Shift reacts differently from capslock.
I was considering the shift-lock though. I haven't received the switches yet so I am still thinking about it.
So I already have an end-game keyboard, but now I am looking for an end-game mouse. Any recomendations?
How is Steelseries? Their mouses look nice and simple. Are they decent quality?
can anyone describe the different types of keycaps? this sounds retarded but idk how else to describe them, but like theres the standard kind, or the big thick kind that scooped in on the top? pls help

One's I've had have been tough fuckers.

Very interested in any black PBT spacebars you're selling.

That layout is the best and floating key cases are cool, I'm not sure about magicforce. Afaik, they're just some random Chinese company so I didn't participate in the gb, but people seem pleased with it, so I'm waiting for round two. It's like $100 less than the VA68, although that one has some nice features.
I picked up an old Dell Quietkey rt7d5jtw for free, anyone ever had one of these? It's rubber dome but it actually feels alright for one.
>>52543380
6.25u and 7u spacebar layouts are both standard, just different standards. 7u spacebars are standard on keyboards with either no winkeys or no fn key.

Haha, oh wow, fuck my education, i'll become a millionaire with epoxy resin press-moulds.
To my great relief, it turns out that soldering diodes is a whole lot easier than soldering the wires was.
>>52545146
>a millionaire
they sell so much only because of rarity
if you flood the market with them, the price drops.
>>52544515
Eh, I always considered shift lock as a neater idea. Not that I'd use it much either way.
>>52545178
No see, i only make one of each, ever ad ridiculous markup, then next month I'll release another unique one, with 2% more red dye, and blue eyes inserts.
>>52545211

Oh and as a bonus I'l story all the sloppy miscasts I do while hung-over for a decade and sell them for thousands as rare mirror miscasts.
>>52545241
For you I'll do a deluxe totally unique version with one of my decaying baby teeth embedded in piss-yellow resin.
>>52545128
is it good?
>>52545151
I had the same experience. Was your wire braided? Hard to tell with those gigantic solder blobs.
>>52545211
You talk a big game, but I doubt you'd have the persistence and ability to pander you'd need to pull this off.
>>52545391
nah, my wire is just a solid piece of copper. I'd probably get wire that's flexible enough to tie knots in should I ever hand wire a keyboard again. Would save me the pain of having to use a single piece for every connection.
I'll probably be looking into controlling microprogrammers and pcb design once I'm done with this project.
Where can i get a good keyboard in italy? Do i have to import from the usa? I don't mind buying secondhand. Cazzo non c'รจ niente
>>52545387
thats super cheap actually
>>52545458
I wouldn't recommend braided wire for your matrix - it's a mess to work with. Did you follow the brown fox guide? The idea is to take a single piece of wire for the entire column, and strip sections out from the sides with a razor.

Oppure importi come ho fatto io, serve culo o venditore compiacente per gabbare la dogana
>>52545602
I checked out the brownfox guide, but with the wire I have it would have been a terrible pain to get everything to sit properly. It's flexible, but the slightest movement at one end will make everything else jump around too.
Something that I can make knots around the switch contacts with would be absolutely dank, thus I was thinking of something along the lines of braided wire.
>>52545128
>NOVATOUCH AT 79 BONGS IN UK
>UK layout
eh
>>52545679
The idea would be to bend it a bit beforehand, then continue to adjust as you solder at each point.
i need more criticism of my first meme board
Making a custom board.
Thoughts about the layout?
>>52545850
that spacebar turns me on
The more I use my HHKB the more I realize how great these keys are. I switched back to cherry blues just to test them out and the switches feel a lot worse in comparison. The keys feel kind of wobbly, the noises they make sound almost like a children's toy, and the way they weakly spring back up after each press is just not on the same level as topre.
I guess I'm a topre convert now. I have another week before I have to return or stick with this keyboard, and I'm definitely going to keep it.
>>52545823
Are you the guy who let mechanicalkeyboards.com know that the weight on the ducky one is off and thus got a custom keycap set with his keyboard?
>>52545823
I think it's beautiful.
What switches?
