There's some google forms you fill out before that to say what you'd prefer to do. On thursday I've got the first interview on the phone where I'll be talking to a software engineer and code in a google doc. If that goes well, you go to the office you applied to and do the same thing in person 4 times throughout the day on a whiteboard instead of a doc. And if that goes well enough then you get hired.
I got recommended by a buddy. One phone screen (basic questions asked by recruiter), one phone interview with an engineer, then a day of on-site engineers.
Once you actually get a foothold in the process (recommendation, attractive CV or contact by recruiter), the technical part is pretty easy. The recruiters are annoying, though.
