Too Cheap to Care Edition.

What are you buyan? Coppan? Any steals from previous purchases? Any good (or bad) experiences? Let's share them!

I recently got a phone case and glass protector for my Zenfone 2 from aliexpress, 64gb sandisk microsd from amazon and pistons 3 from dealextreme... now I have no idea what to buy, the low prices are pretty outrageous desu

no sankyuu, also those headphones look generic, I'd rather go with an established brand like Etymotic or Xiaomi that's also cheap.
>>
>>52530305
there's a difference?
i thought all lighters used butane
>>
>>52530353
Actually chink headphones are bit of a lotto. You can get a $3 pair that would be on par with freebie smarthphone headsets and would be literally fucking impossible to kill except by smashing with a rock, or you can pay a $20 and get a shitty Pistons ripoff that would sound like Uncle Lao farting in an empty barrel and maybe live for 2 months if you're lucky.
>>
>>52530286
It's not a flame. You do use a flame to start the reaction, but it's just lighter fluid reacting with a metal in the head of it. I own one, they get pretty toasty. Though you could just get a nice pair of gloves. And if you do get one anyway, get two. Having to change pockets is a bitch.
>>
>>52530382
Most disposable lighters use butane, which is a gas. Before that you used to use something called naphtha, which is a liquid fuel. There are benefits to each depending on what and where you plan to use it for.

Haven't ever seen a better deal for such knives than Sanrenmu (EDC) or Ganzo (outdoors) knives, apart maybe from the newer Victorinox Swiss Army Knives. They're cheap *and* really good.

Then again, I have no clue about Walmart EDC knives... no Walmarts around here.

I figure Sanrenmu and Ganzo are maybe better, given how many US citizens familiar with these brands refer to them rather than Walmart. (Figures most of them should have a Walmart nearby, right?).

I just got myself a Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, 180€ shipped from amazon.
Build quality is decent, it feels fast enough, but has trouble charging on some of my wall adapters.
MIUI7 is meh, and I don't want to try rooting the thing for now.

Goes pretty well with my Piston 3.

Other chink includes:
>PC Card USB3 adapter: nice way to refresh my old ass Dell XT2.
>PCI USB Card: again, nice way to upgrade the desktop
>USB 3 card reader: it just werks
>some small Sandisk USB 3 pen drive: surprisingly has the announced capacity and transfer rates.

I like it, lots of neat features. Since you got it from Amazon, maybe install the original ROM & reset right away to crapware that some resellers install.

>>52531602
Pretty funny. But yea, the device and its cheaper 802.11n-only variant are decent.
>>

I needed it fast, and didn't want to risk customs. It's a stock MIUI, no crapware installed on it. I'm just not very fond of having everything on the homescreen, and not in an app drawer.

I bought a CRKT flipper from Walmart about 10 years ago for $14, it's still great for edc. use it mostly for cutting boxes and stuff but I keep it in my bag for other uses. the ability to open and close it with one hand is really useful. my only issue is that it's a little small, only like 3".

I'm actually also mostly using one-hand openable 3" blade length knifes for cutting cardboard boxes and various household stuff. It's a good size for that kind of work.

Mainly the pretty special ~$12 Sanrenmu 7046LTX(-LPR-T3) or the more general purpose $7 Sanrenmu 7010LUC(-SA?). Really rather neat knifes.

Parens for the exact model / color variant, doesn't really matter much.
>>
>>52532037
yeah, this CRKT really doesn't need replacing at this point. it opens faster than switchblade I've seen once you learn how to do it.
>>
>>52531902
>I got a senremu, nice!
Never had a badly made Sanrenmu, so I'm sure it'll be fine.

The "worst" from that brand that I ever got was a somewhat impractical but beautiful knife, and even that was only one out of many.

Personally, I really like the brand.

>>52531915
Yes, one microSD slot. Also has dual SIM and replaceable battery, which is about as good as it gets with smartphones, unless you pay a high premium for very special models (e.g. fairphone).
>>
>>52531996
I'd get the 32GB "prime" version anyways since it's only like $25 extra.

Yea, not quite as perfect a deal, but the internal storage is faster than a microSD is, and you get a marginally faster Helio X10, too.

No, inexpensive ARM chipsets with h.265 decoding in hardware have been on the market since at least Q3/Q4 2015 (well, at least that's when I saw them).

They're pretty damn common now. Also, we have plenty of ARM chipsets plus of course the Intel Atoms that can also decode h.265 in software without much trouble.

Right, but the 20Ah is way overkill for most people (probably great for camping trips) and the 5Ah is about the same size and price as the 10Ah.

The weight ratio of the 20Ah is pretty much down to the plastic construction.

So I, being a clever kid, decided to get a cheap phone, rite? Octacore, 1Gb, RAM, SD card, don't remember the rest of the specs. I spent a month trying to show AliExpress that the ROM would force-load a fake version of Antutu that said it was the best phone ever, and using BusyBox to show it was horsehockey. Eventually, they said I could get my money back if I returned it, so I did. the seller closed the shop, and Aliexpress released all the money to them. I'm out $150 total at the moment, and waiting to see what becomes of the re-escalation. If that falls through, I've got a four-page postmortem of the experience I'll toasting around and submitting to The Consumerist.

Never happened to me, but I buy only at least decent Chinese brands (Xiaomi, Meizu, Doogee, LeTV, Huawei and so on...) from the more reputable sellers on Aliexpress and known good Chinese online stores with a website of their own.

At least you almost know for certain you'll get a genuine phone. And you also know the brand in question had some QA in place. So it usually works out fine.
>>
>>52533702
>it's relatively cheap fo what it is
$60 for a MP3 player? No, that's not really cheap.

You can get pretty modern smartphones (with a relatively bad, but still better screen) for that.
>>
>>52533719
I ended up getting a Lenovo phone which seems to be pretty decent, but the utter lack of support on their end leave me a little salty. eBay sellers may bitch about how tough eBay is, but at least that means that buyers feel safe buying from there.

It is? Never had a problem with either the relatively cheap Xiaomis (~$120, some $160) or my brother's smartphone that actually was around $70 back then. Or the HTC we had in the past.

My hearing is very good, but I guess my standards could just be low.

> and round these parts at leas you'll pay at least thirtyish bucks for non expandable poorly made mp3 player.
Yea, but certainly not on Aliexpress. Poorly made is ~$1.

Pretty decent is $10-30. Well, or so I heard - as I already indicated, I went with muh smartphone for a long time now.

You might just want to browse the respective category on Aliexpress for a bit?

Seriously? Wow, the copyright mafia has quite wildly succeeded in getting support from the US government, hasn't it? And only some years after recording functionality was part of about everyone's home setup, too...
>>
>>52534110
You're still allowed to record, that's why stores still sell DVRs. It's just recording directly from HDMI is illegal, because the HDMI association loves those media production company's dollars.

It's because HDCP is supposed to ensure a direct link between the playback device and the screen, but devices that can pretend to be end points for HDCP can allow copying of copy protected material and thus their distribution is restricted.

But it's fucking pointless when you can stick the BD in a drive on your computer and rip it in a couple of clicks, however consoles also use HDCP for their output, so if you want good recording of a console's output you need such a device.

You could get a fairly inexpensive 70" Mi TV 3 as a display if you are in China and can grab one. Shipping it internationally will probably cost you, though.

Also, mainland PRC doesn't make too many displays, as far as I know, though of course it assembles many devices that have them.

Aliexpress is a marketplace like eBay. Sellers offer different shipping methods from different places.

DX is a big shop with some warehouses in various places, some of which you can intentionally pick. They also offer a bunch of shipping methods from these locations.

Basically, it obviously depends on what you order from where with what exact shipping option.

Both give you indication how long it might take, though.
>>
>>52535910

Unlike with the much better ML-102, I *strongly* suggest to use the cases you just listed *only* for discharging protected batteries.

If you charge 18650s with that kind of cheap shit -or maybe even just discharge unprotected ones-, you are asking for house fires far more than when you "risk" them getting punctured in a ML-102 v9.
>>
>>52535941
> But then i have to depend on 10 different little nip monkeys to not fuck up my orders.

mostly just worried about the battery slipping out of that thing when it's in your bag or pocket etc.

Even most "protected" batteries will still allow 20 - 30 A discharge before blowing the internal fuse, which would make me rather nervous rattling around inside a backpack.

Unless you can show me pictures of the board layout and chips + firmware/ destructive testing of that ML-102 I'm a bit doubtful that it's any safer. I've bounced mine off the over-current limiter for an hour straight and no significant temperature rise or magic smoke/any kind of damage etc.

>xiaomi in ear monitors- newest xiaomi earphones. Did not try them as they were a gift for a friend, but pretty good from what I hear
>cree q5 flashlight-GOAT flashlight for $3.50
>orange pi -could not get it to boot, so I set it aside. Should try again.
>USB OTG adapter- alright for 25 cents. Would buy a more expensive one though, because the micro USB side fell apart, but it still works.
>jin hao 599- cheap fountain pen, but writes well, especially for one that cost only a dollar
>redcircle 600-rotring 600 clone. Full metal, writes alright.
>Xbox 360 wireless controller pc adapter-works really well. Nothing else to say
>Track point caps-pretty hit or miss. Ordered two packs from different companies. One was a 3 pack sampler, which ended up being OEM. The other was a pack of 10 soft domes, which are pretty bad. They are poorly cast, and are to soft.

Any recommendations of things to buy?

Also, has anyone ever bought adult toys on aliexpress? Some of them look pretty funny, and possibly dangerous.

What model phone?

I've had mostly good lick buying cree flashlights from DX. The best one I've bought is the Ultrafire WF-502b. Fucker is bright and throws a beam a good distance.

I had back luck with two of the Ultrafire C3s I bought. After a while they would start to flicker and dim. I think they could have used some reflowing of the solder in the switch, but I just chucked em.

I'll make a list as well.

>Sephia SP3060 earphones, came with lots of earbuds. Excellent for the price.
>BM-100FX chinkshit condenser mic, works like a dream for simple guitar recordings.
>iNew V1 chinkdroid. Cost me 100 euro and is already the best phone I ever had.
The only downside being that you can't find any stable ROMs for it.

Buying cheap electronics for tinkering with is more tech than gentoo or desktop threads, idiot.
