I've used them before. Literally no fucking point

only makes sense if you need to work with multiple applications at the same time
for example if you work with 3d modelling/product design it's pretty useful

I just shitpost and watch YouTube videos
I don't even game anymore

then you answered your own question

Yes
It is rarely useful

I use TV (1080p) + monitor (768p), I don't need any more screens than this, when I need to play something or watch anime I turn the TV on, otherwise all the rest on monitor.

Should I connect my TV as well? There is a gap in between. Not very large at that

Two monitors are extremely helpful
I'm 19 and in college and that shit makes my life easier
even my 10 year old sister loves her dual monitors
Will be moving to three ASAP
>>
>>52527036
This

I use Maya for my work and it's nice to not have the outliner and hypershader taking up primary screen space
>>
>>52527202
Why? What do you use it for?
>>
>>52527217
i need to be able to use word and look at other programs
I get alot of instructions from word files
Being able to spread out the programs so i can look at one with the other disappearing makes it easier
Helps me feel less cramped too
She just uses it for watching her weeb cartoons and talking on skype at the same time

Sure, I keep mine at 12:00 attached to the wall in front of my desk actually, there's almost 2 meters gap, while the 768p monitor is at 2:30 on my right on the desk.

Depends how you feel more comfortable, with your TV up close or at certain distance? keep in mind the stress on your eyes is a determinal factor to productivity and/or enjoyment, I keep the room always lit to reduce problems too (I suffered of retinal detachment in the past because of bad lighting in my room, never again).

3 monitor fag here

I have 2 27" and 1 24 in portrait

It helps out a lot as far as quick accessability. I usually have Internet on one, spotify on another and other shit on the third.

Got all three for less than $200. Just keep an eye out for refurbs
>>

when doing homework i have 1 pdf open for my textbook, 1 window open for whatever class i'm working on (android studio, visual studio, word, etc), and then one browser window open showing me my course work and assignment info.

I have 1 21:9 monitor and 1 16:9 monitor so it's basically 3, but i leave the 16:9 off unless i am doing work like mentioned.
>>
I cringe whenever i see multiple monitors, like the faggots with 3+ monitors do anything productive besides shit post and game, they're most likely Neets who spend government aid money

Definitely not.
I have pic related. CRT is for output windows, central monitor is for coding (projector is not for work but still)
>>
Patrician tier: 16:9 or 16:10 in landscape mode as your main screen, and one in portrait mode for full page documents and web browsing.

Pleb tier: Everything else.

>>
I know this is a troll.. but I would find even 3 monitors useless just being a normal gaymer

Mid for gaming, right for twitch/anime and left for bullshit like google or social media
>>
>>52528142
Yea I need too. I never do though. Where do you find them? And are they safe.
>>
>>52531018
I'm doing that soon, actually. The CRT is moving to the right, and a portrait monitor is going on the left. Then, it'll be
>code being referenced on the left
>code being written in the middle (split pane, I usually work on server/client pairs so it'll be 3 code windows and you should only have 80 chars per line regardless)
>output on the right
can't wait
>>
I use 3 monitors.
Central is in landscape for movie/gaming.
Left and right are both on portrait mode for browser/comic/book reading/documents/programming/work.
They ain't a meme to me, because i can't go back from using portrait for the shit i use it for, and it makes multi-tasking a breeze too when i need to write shit for any tasks i'm doing on the central monitor (like a quick note thing which i can instantly view and compare to the central monitor instead of alt-tabing like a fucking idiot).
>>
>>52531035

>>
If all you do is shitpost on 4chan then yes there's no fucking poin
People who play vidya or actually do work find it better though
>>
>>52531056
Interesting. I want a CRT they are awesome.
>>52531097
What is a good monitor for portrait mode? I paid 130 for a Acer Monitor and these are the specs
23.8 inch
60hz
4ms Response time
IPS Display
I really don't wanna go wayyy higher than that
>>
>>52531159
The CRT is mainly good because it's cheap and it's a fun novelty. It has almost no befits over LCD other than good-looking neon colors and a fast refresh rate.
>>
>>52526972
Depends on how you use your system. As a Linux user, I often need to have reference material open while editing config files. It can be done on a single screen, but things can get aggravating if you add another task to the mix.

Literally retarded. You can simulate multiple monitors in software. Having dual monitors is like having both a toaster and a toaster oven.
>>
>>52526972
No it isn't.

That being said, most of the multi-monitor users on /g/ cannot justify their need for multiple screens.
>>
>>52526972
I use 4 at work, lots of stuff going on and I have one screen specifically for monitoring systems passively that I'm working on.

At home I use my laptop only though.

Having an ultra expensive secondary monitor is though
I have an expensive main display then an old dell monitor hooked up off to the side, it's really nice for work as well as shitposting on fourchan while vidya gaming
>>
No way. Any developer is going to need at least 2 monitors. Anything over 3 is a meme.
>>
>>52527217
Im a CS student, so I need two monitors. I usually have the code I'm working on in one screen and UML, project reqs, docs on built in classes/methods, email and Google searches tabbed out on the other.
>>
>>52526972
Just about as meme as 40"+ 4k displays

I mean really, who actually needs more than 1920x1080????
>>
>>52526972
It is now. I went from two 1920x1200 to a 4k 55 inch panel. 4 virtual monitors own duals now.
2 monitor is pleb tier now.
>>
It's super useful. I can use one monitor purely as a Photoshop space, and then bring up a whole shitload of reference material on my second monitor. That, or watch movies/YouTube etc.
>>
>>52526972
Dual monitors and multiple desktops here. I have my shit spread out everywhere so I have an uncluttered working environment. It's comfy as shit.
>>
>>52532154
Pretty much this. Ever since I've used two monitors for coding/work I can't go back. Also when playing games or watching shit it's just nice to have a web browser on the other.

I would like to have a third so I can have a portrait monitor.
>>
>>52531159
>What is a good monitor for portrait mode?
Since it's gonna be in portrait mode and mainly for reading and shit:
1. Something with g-synch/freesynch that's fast (because tearing)
2. And a high resolution with smaller monitor size (like 1440p and over + 24" - 27" if possible) for that good text/font.
It doesn't have to be IPS.
So the main thing is the resolution and getting rid of screen tearing.

Maybe this would be good for you:
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/viewsonic-monitor-vx2475smhl4k

You can look up a full list too:
http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/monitor/#W=2400,2700&r=384002160,344001440,256001600,256001440&sort=a8&page=1
>>
>>52533318
Oh and i forgot, i mainly focused on 24" because it's best to have the monitors on monitor arms instead of the stand shit.
The reason i say this is because getting them this way not only saves space, but also saves you the irritation of colors washing out due to viewing angle by being able to position the monitors at a proper viewing angle.
>>
>>52526972
one horizontal and one vertical is practical but other then that ehhh i guess it depends on the user
>>
>>52533318
Damn thanks man. It seems very expensive though. I was thinking something cheap. 1080p as well.
>>52533749

>>52531768

Multiple monitors are very useful, I have one monitor where I keep PDFs/Informational Sheets open and my desk monitor is my primary work space.

A multiple monitor set-up is critical if you actually use your computer for your profession, otherwise it's a toy most people tend to get bored of.

Ignore my under desk spaghetti, we're moving in a few months so I'm not investing the time in cleaning it up.

Dual is pointless. Triple monitors might be useful depending on what you want but honestly it's not that great either.
>>
Try writing a literature review using 100 published journal articles using a single monitor. You would kill yourself. Two monitors is hardly enough desktop space, three is just barely enough.
>>
Yes, as summer jobless me can show with my endless shitposting and internet timewasting

No, as school year me can attest to. Having a lot of PDFs and code to work on simultaneously really makes you appreciate having an additional monitor.
