Does this thing fix a slow ass laptop? My dad still uses a shit laptop and won't let me buy a new one for him.
as long as it's not a single core celeron then yeah, it'll make a huge difference.
You usually can't unshit a shit laptop. Probably slow cpu and whatever. If adding ram doesn't fix it just give up.

depends, I own an i3 ULV-laptop and without ssd its pretty shitty, but with it I'd say it is fast as hell for that price range.
Ssds are well worth it in a laptop, i notice a big difference without it in mine (i3 390m/4gb ram)

Depends how shit is the laptop, but generally, SSDs are a godsend to laptops: better battery life, silent, fast as shit
Worst case scenario, it helps only a little, and when the laptop shits itself completely, you can take the SSD out and use it on a new one, given your padre won't throw out the laptop with it inside
If it has at least a Core 2 Duo and 4GB of RAM, it's fast enough to benefit from an (cheap) SSD.

You say that, but my 1.2Ghz atom/2gb netbook is way faster with an SSD and I actually bother using it now.

Well I say that because it's the point where an SSD costs about as much as a used laptop. Though it's good to hear that SSD has benefits on lower specced computers.

I got a celeron 540 from 2008 and it acts like a normal low-end laptop with a SSD.
OP how much ram in dads laptop?
I just upgraded my Grandpa's laptop from 3GB is asymmetric dual channel to 4GB symmetric dual channel. He's told me it's been faster (also had the added benefit of removing graphical bugs, which was probably due to the 1GB stick being bad) So RAM is probably the first thing you should look at.

your dad doesn't want to loose his hidden porn.
An SSD wont fix it in this case.
