I broke/force-removed DBUS on ubuntu 15.04.
dpkg --force-all -i dbus.deb is spewing dbus-errors.
I'm in terminal as root, what do?
>>
>>52525967
>retard
apt-get purge dbus.
apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
>>
>>52526003
I force installed dbus_1.8.12 but it's screaming systemd not found or something.
i'm going to try the purge now
>>
>>52525967
you installed dbus through a .deb
you may have unmet dependencies
apt-get install -f
>>
>>52526074
the only unmet dependencies are libdbus-1-3:i386/amd64

>>52526003
I did remove instead of purge, it wanted to purge transmission and muh torrents.
I want to keep the data
>>
>>52526112
You should have thought about that before you uninstalled dbus. If you have to force it, you're not doing something right,

It won't delete your personal files though. you want it fixed?

purge debus
install ubuntu-desktop
>>
>>52526154
dbus*
>>
>>52526154
i'n running that right now (remove instead of purge).
Watching as it deletes everything what i thought was absolutely critical for the system to run...
Expecting my DE to close any second.

>>
>>52526195
Your DE will sit in ram usually depends on how ubuntu really wants to handle it, but all of that is critical, and will be reinstalled by the ubuntu-desktop package
>>
>>52526112
install that then
>>
>>52526112
purge won't delete downloads
may delete the .transmission folder
>>
>>52526074

apt-get install -f:
>Error getting authority: error initializing authority: error calling StartServiceByName for org.freedesktoo.PolicyKit1: timeout was reached (g-io-error-quark, 24)
>failed to execute operation: connection timed out
>dpkg: error processing package systemd (--unpack)
>>
>>52526280
I'm on a ratio-killstreak, i don't want to give that up
>>
>>52526256
it's installed.
Dbus should be working now.
I've switched to synaptic and it's installing ubuntu-desktop
>>
>>52526214
>>52526154
>>52526003
install ubuntu-desktop failed because there were too many errors.
Almost all are dependency-errors
>>
>>52526450
Service dbus won't start (manually and non-manual).
>dbus.ServiceErrir getting authority: error initializing authority: error calling StartServiceByName for org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1: timeout was reached (g-io-error-quark, 24)
>failed to start dbus.service: connection tined out
>failed!
>>
Well, apparently it's a known bug that occurs when you purge policykit-1, restart systemd and install a service.
fix should be to install policykit first, reboot, then everything else.

Luckily i have paragon extfs in windows partition so i can recover my stuff.
>>
>>52526726
For fucks sake, dbus can't be configured because policykit is fucked and policykit can't unfuck because dbus hasn't been configured.
>>
>>52525967
Reinstall desu.
>>
>>52527153
Yeah, i kinda had that coming.
I'm running a final try now, if this fails, i'll shutdown and boot at home (if that fails, reinstall)
>>
>>52527188
Next time i'll install a proper OS instead of Zorin OS 10 (it's an ubuntu-based meme)
>>
>>52527188
I did a quick reboot and this time DBUS STARTED!
this might work...
>>
>>52527231
Holy shit it werks, update, upgrade, configuring, everything!

THANK YOU ALL!
I will remember your kindness forever and try to help people solve GNU/Linux issues on /g/ :^)
>>
>>52525967
boot the ubuntu livecd, use the livecd's apt to install dbus into your on-disk root
removing dbus breaks a ton of stuff
>>
>>52527310
I kinda fixed it now, only my desktop environment crashes when i boot.
Other desktop environments work though.
