my sandy bridge 2500k degraded a lot over the years
it used to be able to run at 4.4, but after 3 years I had to overvolt it to keep it stable at stock clocks

But all fx processors were unlocked.
Not all sandy bridge processors could be overclocked.
Intel wins in ipc, but AMD was the better choice up till skylake simply because of the value and life of the product.
I expect fx6300 owners are pretty happy now that dx12, and soon vulkan, are out and will utilize their processors more effectively.
