I got talked out of buying another 5.1 Logitech speaker setup for my PC by an anon, and instead getting a pair of powered studio monitors and perhaps a subwoofer later down the track

>Price range: $350 - $400

Currently have my eye on these Mackie MR5 Mk3 or the JBL LSR305
>>
>>52521853

stop with this shitty studio monitors meme
>>
what are some okay budget speakers?
>>
>>52521882
I've always ignored this fad.
They're just 'accurate' but very flat and bland, right?
Call me a moron for owning B&W gear, but I'd rather wear headphones than listen to studio monitors. Is the attraction just being actively powered?

Have these arriving tomorrow along with the matching sub and a Harmon/Kardon amp.

Will be used more for music than PC monitors

they're normally horrible, yes.
Kef does them incredibly well though, you really have to hear them before you can judge

What makes the LSR305 good?

>>52521882
/fit/ has the "SS is a meme" meme and I can tell you factually SS is a great program for beginner weight training.

LSR305

>>52522991
>They're just 'accurate' but very flat and bland, right?
Accuracy is the opposite of boring.

>>52523951
>What makes the LSR305 good?
Very flat frequency response and good directivity. For the price there really is no contest.

of course they do - they're speakers. headphones are for when you live in a small-ass apt and don't want to get stabbed by your neighbours or when you're using a mic while gayming.
>>
>>52524395
I knew good speakers were better, but I didn't know lowly rated $100 monitors would sound so much better.

>>
>>52524401
well, now you know. if feasble, speakers are preferable most of the time. but a room's characteristic can significantly alter/fuck up the sound of course. don't have to deal with that when using headphones of course.
>>
>>52524401
the main cause is because music is usually produced, therefore optimised for speakers.

there is music though which is recorded in a different way like classical music which works for headphones just as well

I need a decent pair of passive speakers. I don't know what to look for. My amp outputs 65w per channel.

I use a pair of minx min 11, crisp and good sound stage, however lack serious base but the punchiness of the sound does come through. $100 each unit

Co axial is for cars that cant fit separate Tweeter speakers. Bookshelfs dont suffer from this so your just restricting your sound.

>>52523118
What a phoney, he doesnt even have damping under his speakers! Wtf how does he even dare to call himself an audiophile

But dt880 are absolute garbage tier... My X2s compete with my speakers. Even for bass they come close (well my sub goes to 28hz so not really but). I had the dt880s and they were worst headphones I have ever heard, porta pros are better even...
>>
>>52524803
welcome to a website created by an American.
>>
>>52524806
I really doubt there are headphones which can create the sort of stereo imaging you'd get with speakers. There's no comparison. Headphones are more expensive while sounding far worse.

Never even started reading. They are absolute garbage. Literally 50$ pair of speakers are better

>british sound
British speakers are fucking terrible
>>
>>52524853
Unless they have built in crossfeeding there's no way they'll have the imaging of a speaker. Might as well just buy the speakers as they'll be better and probably cheaper.
>>
>>52522973
I have a pair of Mackie CR4. They work great for a small living room or a desktop setup. I'm in the EU so i paid almost 150€ i think.

As a non audio enthusiastic person i'd describe the sound of them as "neutral". The looks of the speakers are fine for me, and they are quite small so they should fit easily on a desktop. It's also good to note that you can switch in between which speaker is Left or Right (one of the speaker has a volume knob on the front).
>>
>>52524883
And what does crossfeeding have to do with this? Please read up before you post about terminology you dont even understand... Do you really think expensive headphones have a hard time to create excellent stereoimaging?
>>
>>52525013
>And what does crossfeeding have to do with this?
Yes, what could that POSSIBLY have to do with stereo imaging.

Bose companion 5, yeah yeah I know (buy other sound equipment) But I just recently picked these up and they have been great, extremely loud and enough base tone for me to listen to. Great for music especially, haven't tried any games yet for some fucking reason

My mother is looking for WHITE speakers for around $200.

Any suggestions?

Pls help me with new speakers.

Looking for a 2.1 system for my computer. Currently using soundsticks 2 by Harman/kardon.

I'd like to get the best possible satellites and sub within the 350-400 price range. What are my options? Clear highs and good mids with a strong bass. A nice kick at least. Drawn out bass lines in electronic music and rap and stuff. Good kicks for guns and explosions.

Who can recommend me something? Using onboard sound card currently with EVGA X99 FTW mobo.
