best cloning software? I use pic related
dd

It's decent for offline backups. Kind of shit for NTFS disks though. It works but not much more.
>>52512373
why shit for ntfs?
>>52512382
It managed to mangle the filesystem several times in a row when I used compression. The checksums didn't check out that it generated. Using no compression I might as well just use dd and 7zip or something for ntfs.
>>52512463
using the default gzip compression it uses?

>I might as well just use dd and 7zip
isn't that using compression?

With the ntfs options you actually read the filesystem which it don't do by default. For ntfs disks it just create a 1:1 exact copy. The ntfs option appears to have been experimental in clonezilla for the past decade or so. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Might as well do a slow 1:1 copy instead of failing.

you're saying you got errors while restoring?
>>52512666
The checksums it created before imaging the disk don't check out when it verifies the image. It's random if it will pass or fail that point when cloning with ntfs option. It has happened on several computers and disks.
And no I wont try blah blah or file a bug report.

what is the dd command you guys would use to backup a single hard disk?
>can't do it online
>best
Pick one

this one is on the arch wiki:
dd if=/dev/sdX conv=sync,noerror bs=64K | gzip -c > /path/to/backup.img.gz
