I'm in the US and need to send money to a friend in the UK. However, I need to send pounds. I do have a credit card that doesn't charge international transaction fees, but don't know how to pay a personal account. What is the cheapest/easiest way to do this?

you can't.
Just paypal them money, it's only a few %

No, that would likely be the worst way to do this.
Does he have a PayPal account? You could send it to that, and I believe your friend could transfer money from that account to his in Eurobucks.

The bank should have an option to send pounds (in any way the money sent will be converted to pounds)
paypal, bitcoins or western union
You can do a bank to bank transfer if you're credit card is from your bank but don't because they interest rate is instant and high (once you make the transfer they charge you 30% right off the bat.)

fuck how have none of you ever heard of Western Union.

How much are you sending? The bank will usually charge 20-50$ for a wire transfer. Check your local post office. They might some cheap option to send money to foreign countries.

Figures paypal is the best option now.
In the past, sending money to your own Swiss bank account and then making a SEPA payment to the UK would have been attractive.
But since all the drama that started around US IRS not being able to monitor your every step/transaction, US citizens are mostly b& from having these.
Buttcoins
It'll be a maximum 0.2% fee
