Hi /g/, I picked Computer Science as my college major but I've never coded a day in my life. What do you enjoy about programming?

>He fell for the CS meme.

it's fun if you do it for yourself. When money comes in, it becomes a job and turns to shit
>>
>>52477494
Why do people program? To make programs of course. Why else would people enjoy programming? To make a fucking program you retarded cunt.
>>
>>52477494
I like to make thing what does the naughty Nancy on my willy tickle

I'm 42 now, starting coding with 9. Being a software dev and architect I still love it. I love to continually learn. I'm a pro in assembly, x86 and sse, c and c++, worked some years in gaming industry, learned Java during dot com bubble, had some html5 + javascript project for a big german car company, chose emacs, learned lisps, had a few projects in distributed systems, a few embedded side projects, just discovered GLSL for audio synthesis and so on. It never stops being interesting.

Stay curious, don't fear changes or future. Learn to be responsibe about yourself. Had two burnouts yet.

okay, you have to explain to me everything that shaders have to do with audio generation
>>
>>52477887
- any sound is a function "f(t)" where t is time (in secs)
- t increments by 1/samplerate
- rendering a 2d img using shaders is effectively rendering a 1dim audio signal
- fragment shaders are stateless, so functions must be pure functional programming

--> see shadertoy.com for inspiation, search for "audio", switch source tab to "sound"
>>

stuff is so much fun... only trick is to render audio to a 2d texture, aplha and red for 16 bit left channel, green and blue for 16 bit right channel, then, read pixels, convert ARGB to audio signal and play that... shaders process in parallel, so, you prefer additive synthesis, because subtractive requires state and sequential processing (eg. for filters)

implying cs has something to do with programming

>42
>still not using compute shaders

so you literally play images. I don't know nearly enough about shaders nor digital audio theory but I'll definitely learn and try this in my free time.
>>
>>52478171
yeah, right, it's sad, but my spare time is limited ^^
>>
>>52478225
cheers, hope you have some fun

Not OP. I took some intro CS courses as prerequisites for BA. If I do decide to pursue this as a minor, what general suggestions do you guys have?
>>
>>52477494
Inventing something out of thin air. It's highly abstract, and very creative.
>>
Programming? Lol grampa everyone calls it coding or apping now
>>
>>52477494
>What do you enjoy about programming?
figure out your own interview answers faggot

>It never stops being interesting.

It stops being interesting as soon as your boss tells you to build something stupid using some horrible technology, horrendous APIs with Indian-intern-level documentation, and the whole time you can see that the product idea is absolutely awful.

People make software engineering suck.

>If I do decide to pursue this as a minor, what general suggestions do you guys have?

Don't.

A CS major barely means anything. A CS minor just means you're uncomfortable around girls.

Seriously, I can't even imagine minoring in CS. CS is babby math, so a CS minor is like a remedial math degree.

So there I was down at the cool local alternative coffee shop, apping up some code...
>>
>>52477494
computer science is not about coding nor programming, you picked the wrong major
>>

>dubdubs chkd
You too? I was apping some code up a couple of days ago, and some hot babes nearby were really impressed by how sweet it was.
