Why are Yurop internet speeds so shit?
>>

>Europe is shit
>10 European countries still faster than the US on average

nice try

>10 small countries better than a massive country consisting of 50 states

>yurop gets btfo by states with similar land mass and population
>>
>>52471447
Because speculation. In italy there's some sort of monopoly where the major ISP owns the backbone and won't let other minor ISPs improve their service, while it still offers prices and speeds that didn't improve a bit in last 10 years.

On mobile is even worse, I'm paying 19€ for 20GB every 3 months for a saturated 4G unstable connection, though I'm going to get a satellite connection sooner or later before summer from a new provider, the prices are pretty good (100GB a month at 20 Mbit/s for 60€ and night hours 0-6 aren't counted, that's perfect for torrenting).
>>
>>52471613
Italian fag here too.
Location? ISP? Mobile ISP? 19€ for 20 GB every 3 months would be good for my needs, I'd like to know more.

that chart is so wrong. doesn't even have estonia in it. Almost everyone living in a large apartment building has at least 100mbps. And half of the population live in those large apartment buildings
>>

you mean commie blocks?
>>
>>52471681
just TIM you've to call the customer service 40916 and then listen to the offers for mobile, it took me 15 minutes because you've to go through a lot of listening before you can find it, but at least now I've internet 24h/24h even though it's limited to only 20GB every 3 months.

Before I was with day to day internet that costed like 4€ for just 500MB what a scam.
>>
>>52471725
yup
>>
>>52471447
Germ here, can't get more than 16mbits due to DSL restrictions and cable is not available (kinda rural city outskirts).
But at least we don't have to deal with Cumcast here

I'm on TIM too since it owns the whole market as you said... currently 2GB 4g every month for 10€. i'll search for a better plan with 40916, thank you :)

>>
>>52471832
No problem, just make sure to enable data cap on your device because if you go over 20GB in less than 3 months, they charge you additional 3€ for every GB (up to 3GB or 9€).
>>
>>52471885
Yes we know your Eastern European shithole has better internet because because of EU funds and you had no infrastructure to begin with.

Are you really implying Estonia is Scandinavian or northern european or some shit?

Estona is an ex-commie eastern european shithole, deal with it Boris
>>

It's fucking ex-USSR.
If an european ex-USSR state is not a fucking definition of Eastern Europe then I have no idea what is.

your mobile isp have data caps so therefore you are lying
>>

>>
>>52471447
Propaganda by cumcast.
In reality you have to come by WLAN because you can't put up with your own connection.
>>
>>52472146

It's their FTTH service. The infrastructure in Milan is provided by another private company (Metroweb). Wind, Fastweb and Vodafone (IIRC) just use it.

The result is that all works fine until shit hit fan. I called multiple time their customer service and the final answer was that for fiber users they just don't provide any kind of support other than telling the user to reboot his modem. They haven't got any manual for the provided modem (nor they send me any kind of documentation) and they can't handle any failure on the infrastructure.

This is just a giant clusterfuck for a cheap (~€30/mo.) connection.

And of course their modem have bugs and its software is complete crap and you can't replace it because fuck you. I asked multiple times specifications and I was able to talk just with complete idiots. I tried to do by myself the PPP handshake with theirs servers but I failed.
>>
>>52472273

Yes it is. I think it is available in Milan only.
>>
>>52472219
>>52472316
massive chuckle there lad.

call me when your people stop migrating to northern europe for work.
By then, you're russia-tier
>>

>other than telling the user to reboot his modem.
kek reminds me of this.

>This is just a giant clusterfuck for a cheap (~€30/mo.) connection.
yeah I know I would gladly pay 30€ for 100 mbit internet even from shitty providers.

>And of course their modem have bugs and its software is complete crap and you can't replace it because fuck you
is the use of their modem mandatory?
>>
>>52472525
>migrating to northern europe for work
too bad lots of people are moving back from finland because the economy has gone to shit. but true, the salaries here are bad, but they're slowly getting better
>>
>>52472543

They provide two randomly-shipped modems. An Alcatel-Lucent (do you remind this old friend?) and a Huawei.

They keep telling you that the only way to connect to the Internet is using one of them. But they should actually say that those are the only two officially supported.

But, as I said, their support stops at bringing the hardware without any box or documentation, install and link the fiber at the floor to your apartment wrecking your walls eventually.

Theoretically every GPON modem should work. It's pretty standard shit. But I can't tell much more since I haven't studied it enough yet.

I think the modem is capable of doing some kind of remote self configuration, I don't think this thing will work with another modem.

By the way I managed to get root on that piece of crap, so getting any information should not be too hard. But now I haven't much time nor I can take down the Internet to do my tests.

I wonder if it can be emulated with software, it would be nice to have a minipc like rPi with linux installed and replace that buggy hardware they gave you, though I'm not an expert either, I just remember reading some time ago about a linux distro that could easily replace a router, forgot the name.
>>
>>52472952

I have disabled all its features and put it in DMZ with an OpenBSD machine with a bunch of NICs. Seems to work nicely.

I'm okay with this
