If DuckDuckGo doesn't track me, why does it want to run

If DuckDuckGo doesn't track me, why does it want to run scripts on my browser from totally unrelated websites?

Did I fall for ANOTHER botnet?
>>
lmao
>>
>>52471373

That's not duckduckgo, thats your browser and its extensions
>>
>>52471373
>visualstudio.com

?
>>
>>52471415
Are you blind?
visualstudio.com for some reason wants to run a script sourced from duckduckgo.com on my browser when I access the former site.
>>
>>52471373
>being this retard
>>
>>52471427

It's probably just a duckduckgo search function embedded on the visualstudio page you're looking at.
>>
>>52471427
Give the url. I don't see shit about ddg at visualstudio.com homepage
>>
First of all, DDG owner is a filthy kike and sells your data.
Secondly, you're retarded.
>>
use startpage.com

startpage gives you google results, unlike ddg, so you actually find what you're looking for.
it has its servers in the EU, unlike ddg.
they've been around for longer and unlike ddg the founders are not known for selling userdata in the past.
ddg is shit, you should not trust them.
>>
>>52471427
How does Javascript track you without cookies? If tracking is so easy without cookies, then why does everybody use cookies instead of the easy to use Javascript method?
>>
>>52471489
I usually use SP for searches, but I have DDG as my default because of bangs.
>>
cuckcuckgo advertised on 4chan, that should tell you how trustworthy they are.

and the owner sold his previous project, including all user data, for millions. he's a kike
>>
>>52471489
>use startpage.com

or better yet https://duckduckstart.com/ (start page with bangs)
>>
>>52471533
Now THIS is what I needed.
Thanks, anon.

why route all of your search queries through ddg's US based servers when both firefox as well as chrome have keyword search built in? are you retarded?
>>
>>52471533

there's that word again.
see >>52471554
>>
>>52471554
Because I'm not using a botnet browser such as Firefox or Chrome.
>>
>>52471572

Ok, let me just set up 1000 bangs. Are you fucking retarded?
>>
>>52471574
if you're using a browser without keyword search you're using a shit browser. no amount of memes will change that

typing !yt instead of just y takes longer. in the long run you save keystrokes and time by setting up your own keywords. your loss

7,627 bangs and counting

Eat shit.

If you can find me a one click install solution for all ddg bangs, then I'm game.
>>
>>52471647
i have 10,000 keywords set up and i can set up an unlimited amount of keywords, unlike you. you lose.
>>
>>52471373
Do a browser clean up to remove the toolbars and adware that you problably installed, as the tech illiterate you are, and use HTML version of DDG if you're still paranoid:

there're no javascripts at least.. you keep using google good boy.
>>

>javascripts
Because JS is literally the only way to track.

>you keep using google good boy.
You know me so well :^)
>>
>>52471373
>Why?
You browsed to visualstudio.com using DuckDuckGo. When you click on a link, DuckDuckGo would like to know somebody clicked on this search result, because the search results are sorted by popularity.

If you don't like this, don't use DuckDuckGo, it's that simple.

>Botnet
Search engines are not botnets. A botnet is a client/server model with malicious intent. Clients get infected, typically without consent of the owner or him being aware thereof, which are called zombies and in turn infect other machines while awaiting commands from the command & control server.

This is fundamentally different from you visiting a certain website, because *you* visit the website, and not something else you're infected by. Saying X is botnet is just another meme you fell for here. Id est, you should've fucking known better.
>>
>>52471515
>How does Javascript track you without cookies?
Fingerprinting. There are several singularities that can help pinpoint your browser among millions: https://panopticlick.eff.org/

>then why does everybody use cookies instead of the easy to use Javascript method
Cookies are easier and not every web page is evil
>>
>>52472044
My fingerprint is not unique. So how exactly do they track people without cookies when my browser is 1 in 1000 just like me?
>>
>>52472141
They just track those they can.
>>
>>52472141
Some sites add the utm_source parameter to the url so the linked site can know where the user came from.
There's also the referrer HTTP header sent by browsers.
>>
>>52471515
What is
>botnet = new WebSocket(botnet.com);
>botnet.send(mykeystrokes);
>>
>>52471471
You literally can't prove either of those statements. LEL!
>>
>>52471697
It's about minimizing tracking, not eliminating it altogether. You can't avoid it fully.
>>
use Qwant.com it's better then googole or somthing else
>>
>>52472547
Hate to be that guy, but that's actually calling home, spying. Actual botnets use your computer to do stuff like mailing spam, mining bitcoin or DOSing someone. I hate how they use "botnet" for privacy issues
>>
>>52471824
>Because JS is literally the only way to track.
>implying I implied that
I know they can have server-side scripts running and collecting data, I did it on my wordpress blog once with php ;p but other than startpage, are there any real alternatives to ddg?

>>

SSL has been deprecated by the IETF as per RFC 7568 due to well known security issues in the protocol. Use TLS instead, preferably TLS 1.2. https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7568

You literally can do a simple search.
>>
>>52475961
Except it is opensource. You can go to github right now and look at it
>>
DDG is a honey pot.

If you didn't know that then you do now.
>>
>>52478690

This. There's no secure search engine besides the one you host yourself.

You can just block fingerprinting with CanvasBlock.
>>
>>52479017
this use qwant
>>
I guess I'm the only one who prefers ddg search results to google results. The only place lacking is images and video, hard to compete with google there.

I lived like you live for years.

Then my house burned down 2 months ago. When I bought a laptop, new phone, etc., I made a point to start organizing bookmarks and shit from the get-go. Not surprisingly, internet browsing has never been so comfy. You're missing out. Know that your temporary "easier" isn't worth a shit compared to my infinitude of Easier. This, from a guy whose house burnt down.
>>
>>52486858
How're you organizing and syncing your bookmarks? I've just resorted to periodic exports from firefox, but it doesn't sync to my non-x86 devices.

YaCy is actually really awesome.

Sure the search results aren't going to be as good as Google/Startpage, but the important thing is that you can run your own search engine.

What this means is that you can index the pages you want, and keep a local cache of pages too.

For example, you can set it to only use the local cache, web crawl all of the documentation pages for the languages and libraries you use, then use it as a documentation searcher, without having to deal with all the StackOverflow clones shit that turns up during a Google search.

>>52471515
Are you joking? google analytics uses almost exclusively javascript tracking.
It collects a couple things about you (browser, height and width, available cookie info etc) and does an image request to Google with your info in the url (ex: www.google.com/img?width=100+height=200+etc=true)

images escape CORS so the browser loads it no problem on any page, and Google gets the info they want through the request without using any fancy AJAX or whatever.

It still uses cookies for fingerprinting, because obviously the more they can relate all the info the better they can know exactly what you did and cater ads to you. And give stats to whoever put the google analytics on the website in the first place
