>2016 and you use an HDD still. Why stick with HDD's over SSD's?
>>
If you don't need speed then HDD is still cheaper.
>>
Because an Archive isn't meant for speed based anon.
>>

That's clear enough. What about durability, i.e. how long an HDD lasts compared to an SSD?
>>
i don't want my drive to die after 2 weeks
>>
>>52469023
If you buy from a dump company that's very likely. SanDisk SSD here. It's the shit.
>>
I don't have a money to buy one? I can't buy a new HDD (and I really need a new one) too.

Besides, I need a GPU right now more. I'm tired of using a shitty 64 meg IGP.
>>
>>52468982
Because there's still a chance of data recovery if a mechanical drive fails.

Boot time and program load on an old core i7 laptop with 8GB ram HP is fast as hell compared to HDD. If it dies I'll get my money back, and I read and write to it hourly on average. HDD made by Hitachi is garbage, Seagate is ok, but compared to what I have now, SSD is a Ferrari and HDD is a riding lawnmower.
>>
>>52469110
>HDD made by Hitachi is garbage

Elaborate? I've been using mine for 10 years and it hasn't slowed down even a bit. It's fairly quiet, too.
>>
>>52469091
No clean, white room for an SSD then?

I'm afraid something will go wrong cloning my hdd laptop drive

It's more than likely failing. Have it tested, it probably won't make it through the first phase of running a full test...

$159 for 512GB SSD is something you can achieve. I believe in you anon.
>>
>>52469022
Far, far, far more, unless you're getting enterprise ones but then again they're still finite.

Hard drives break down because of wear/tear on the head (needle), platters, or environmental factors like consistent and _extreme_ heat or cold.

Solid state drives overwhelmingly fail because of bad chips. When data is written to them and erased, there are only so many cycles one can go through before the chips start reallocating sectors and going bad. Their lifespan is warranted for only a few TBW (total bytes written, but nearly terabytes written) with operation failure not too far above that.

HDD still cheaper.

True, it also depends on the actual single unit you get. My SSD could outlast a $40 500GB HDD. You never truly know do you?

no, but americans are so fucking wasteful with their money

people in my country get 10 dollars per day and this faggot complains he's poor

fuck that guy

I currently have a Samsung 850 Pro, but I will probably downgrade to HGST HDDs if I need more storage.

Yep. But do you want to go perform other work related items while your shit boots up? Do you want programs to load as quick as you can blink (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) or do you want to have a slower more "stable" OS? Honestly, have SSD's not met the fundamental requirements for this thread?

Can I buy a 2TB SSD for less than 150 USD yet ?
No ?
Well, then that's why I'm still using HDDs.

Or if you can have two disks, for instance an SSD for all your programs and OS to boot upon, and another 1TB HDD to simply utilize as storage. That would solve problems. Remember , I'm talking an HP Pavilion DV7 with 8GB memory with an older i7; it boots and runs like a brand new Mercedes. HDD is more reliable if you don't move it, but it's a laptop. HDD is not going anywhere, ever, but SSD is still better.

Don't start a "race" war on anon shit. SSD is better by far and if you can figure your way around ghosting an HDD to SSD on your laptop, you'll realize it's worth the $159, even if you make $10/hour.
>>
>>52469218
You can live with just 512gb? Damn you're resillient.
>>52469110
>HDD made by Hitachi is garbage, Seagate is ok
According to backblaze, a company that runs thousands of servers, they test about 49k hard drives every quarter and then they print out the results.
Hitachi which isn't used anymore for some reason used to have the best rates until they stopped, seagate to this date has the absolute highest failure rates, it's an utter garbage brand.
>>
>>52470457
not the 4TB seagate drives, they're good
>>
>>52470716
If you're talking about the XT model, it's the only model that comes close to the other average hdd's, obviously it performs a little better but it's the best they have to offer.
Oppose it to the best other brands have to offer and you're far better off, i'd say imo but the actual numbers prove enough.

Have an m.2, an SSD and 2 HDDs at the moment. That way I can put things that need to be fast on the SSDs and other files like music and films on the HDDs.
