reminds me of my old school days back in 1998.

>that MASSIVE sound when the NT startup sound came on almost the same time on every single pc of those 30 ones in the IT room combined with the admin PC which even had a subwoofer under the table

this sound has a special place in my heart.

Yes!

>the smell of an unventilated, dusty computer room in the 90s
>>
>>52468394
Because in the 90s technology was solid and awe-inspiring, that's why the NT4/9x sounds are that way. With XP system sounds became mundane, with Vista and later cold, impersonal, and downright annoying.

Yes, there's a problem when unnecessary noise is being made in the lab. Lab computers don't need and should't have speakers attached, period. If you desperately need audio, attach your own headphones and don't disturb everyone else with the noise from your computer.

I guess that was the swan song of the 90s
Windows startup sounds. The final 2k sound was way more timid and already started going in the lame direction >>52471421 was talking about.

nice senpai
>>
>>52468394
Ah, brings back memories.
Back in the day, when MS had a line of Pro stuff and consumer shit, both with their various fatal flaws, but you could actually get work done on NT and 2000, without the OS actively trying to sabotage you (it was just sabotaging accidentally). Plus, stuff was looking and sounding nice.
It all went downhill with XP's stupid lunar toy look, over stupid aero glass, cumulating in the abomination that is W10.

Could be disabled. Even the stupid search dialog could be reverted to the 2k one with a registry modification.
