What the fuck is the point of 4k, I bought a 4k TV today and when I got home I realized literally none of my devices have the ability to output 4k.
If someone who goes on /g/ doesn't even have anything that can do 4k on hand why the fuck are people buying 4k stuff.

Netflix and Amazon both have 4k. There are many other sources as well.
You could play games at 4k easily if you don't mimd 30fps
4k is supported on Netflix and Youtube.
Theres a huge quality difference not to mention the superior panel technology now.
Even if you don't watch 4K video all the time you can get then for pretty cheap now so if you want to buy a new TV you would be retarded not to get a 4K otherwise you will be buying a new one next year.

The only panels exclusive to 4k are the new 24bit color oled ones.

3. There may be 1080p panels made along with the 4k/5k ones.
The vast majority of 4k panels are trash. All 4k panels currently available are trash for games.
Could be wrong but I believe the most color accurate TVs are still the 1080p Sony XBR line. Till the new oleds come out of course.

I use mine as a monitor. Works great for that. As a TV, yeah, there's not much in the way of 4K content, but merging a dual monitor setup and an old 720p tv into one 4K screen has simplified my apartment quite a bit.
The netflix and youtube apps should hopefully play 4k content
