What does /g/ think of dead drops?
>>
>>52466184
They are virus bait more likely than not.
>>
>>52466192
That's what I was thinking honestly
>>
One time I did a dead drop with CD's in a bag hidden under a bush.
>>
>>52466250
>>52466250
Probably stolen by a nigger within the hour
>>
>>52466184
Made one about 3 years ago, but nobody used it. Probably only works in bigger cities.
>>
What are they good for? Just more piracy?
>>
>>52466269
Reported for what?
You're probably just nigger yourself
>>
>>52466269
You're not allowed to make posts like "lolz I report u senpai".
Against the rules.

You were reported for not being PC and sucking nigger cock.
Whites are not allowed to talk about their betters.
Get with the times, cuck.

I get the feeling BadUSB was created specifically to discourage the use of USB dead drops.

That sounds more like geocaching, which is actually cooler (or used to be).

I wonder why it isn't more popular now that everyone's carrying around a smartphone with GPS.
>>
A comment on the official deaddrops site sums this shit up nicely

>this is the nerd equivalent of glory holes

Also wouldn't rain like destroy these? And anyone could render it useless with a half assed format.. or a hammer
>>
>>52466362
I hate to come off as cynical but do you honestly expect the smartphone generation to want to geocache? Even the lower difficulty ones?
>>
>>52466362
I once found a geocache accidentally while working doing weed control.

>PC
>>>/tumblr/
>>
>>52466428
The term PC has existed in common usage long before tumblr.
How old are you?
>>
I'd be afraid the weight of my own computer would fuck up my USB port. Even if you hold it up, what if someone knocks into you?
>>
>>52466393
I dunno, I've never done it, would have loved to back in it's heyday.

But it never ceases to amaze me what normies can take as hobbies, like retro gaming and fish breeding.
>>
>>52466501
Well, anytime you see these you should take a hammer and break the shit out of it.
>>
>>52466501
I think the best way to use one would be with an USB extension cable.
>>
>>52466582
who carries around a hammer?

honestly, anon.
>>
>>52466671
I carry one in my car.
And I have a knife with a glass breaker
>>
I like to put my semen on these when I find them. It makes me hard thinking about how many unsuspecting computers I've given my AIDS to.
>>
>people actually plug their laptops into these

What the fuck is wrong with you people? You can get a raspberry pi zero for 5 bucks. Use that for all file transfers then check the files later on at your leisure.
>>
>usb dead drops
>not a raspberry pi providing an open WAP (with SSID hidden to keep the normies out) and a web interface to some file storage (maybe with one of those lists of known CP checksums to prevent it being a target for cops)

would have to figure out power (solar? sneaky run it off building power tap?) but would be a lot safer
>>

Eat a dick femnazi
>>
>>52466273
No, as stated higher up, they are pretty much only good for hackers looking to infect people with their viruses.

Using USB sticks as an infection vector is one of the oldest tricks in the book (replacing floppy disks and CDs).

Created one in my 3rd world country poland. Next day the plug was completely smashed. Probably some dirty polack did it using stone.

destroyed all 3 in my city last week senpai

How are you supposed to use them? Any way I can imagine seems retarded.
>>

you plug your laptop in it?
>>

I like to be the coolest bro among my peeps by smashing them.

Dead drops are a pretty nice idea, viruses keep away the faggets who try to connect with their facebook machines, if you're running a linux os you won't get recked just for plugging a dead drop to your device. They can be used to share censored shit and freedom.
>>
Dead Drops would be cool if they were read-only

Some USB drives have a read-only switch like floppies, you can lock them with a cover like this >>52469526 so that people won't turn the switch and delete everything.

I used to re-upload themes to gnome-look with .debs that would run rm -rf. People used them.

"But muh secure Linux"

Fuck it was satisfying.

>if you're running a linux os you won't get recked just for plugging a dead drop to your device.
This comes up pretty much every time we have a dead drop thread, but I'll say it again anyway. That's not true because all sorts of things can happen when you attach untrusted hardware to your computer. The "USB drive" could be one of pic related, or it could attack your computer by acting as an HID or infecting the USB controller itself.

Most real USB dead drops are probably fine, but you're always taking a risk. I'd feel much safer with Bluetooth/WiFi dead drops.

>>52469279
This makes the most sense but people are even less likely to trust that.

Unless you were to say ... set it up with multiple gateways in a place with multiple free legitimate wifi points, like a corner where there is a starbux and a macdonalds or some shit, and then you just put up a wifi like macdonalds2 or starbux2 and see how many people just connect to it thinking it might be a better connection.
>>
>>52470928
Windows automatically turns off the usb port if it detects a short. I tried it with wires, etc.
>>
>>52472522
What would you plug it into RETARD there are no sockets on the street.
>>
>>52469526
>if you're running a linux os you won't get recked just for plugging a dead drop to your device.
There's got to be an easy way to connect some electronic components or some shit to the inside of the USB dead drop that will blow out the USB controller of any machine that connects to it. I mean.. fuck.
>>
Went to a dead drop one time in Seattle visiting my bro. Looks just like the one in the picture but was already torn out and regrouted when we got there.
>>
Not a single one in Las Vegas.
>>
>>52472603
Unless it somehow physically cuts the circuit between the port and the mobo that won't do anything and you'll still fry your computer.
>>
>>52472522
what exactly would happen by the way ?
>>
>>52472603
>Windows automatically turns off the usb port if it detects a short.
LOL, no. I think you'll find that port is now permanently disabled in every OS.
>>
>>52473091
Nah, it still works fine after you restart the computer.
>>
>>52473110
I'm sure there's other ways to fuck up the port though. Put a high power capacitor inside the usb dead drop. Have it send hight voltage current down the data connectors and fry the USB controller.
>>
>>52473056
Your shit gets fried.
>>
>>52473155
Yeah this would work.
>>
USB circuits have fuses, trouble is their so small they are difficult to replace and a high enough spike could potentially arc across anyway.
